So many beautiful homes in Otavalo have been razed rather than restored. This colonial gem will be saved. The old Moorish architecture allowed plenty of space and light and elegance. I will follow the restoration throughout the process. Musica Nacional by Nelson Maldonado.

I went to the city park, in front of city hall, today to video the Banda Municipial. It never arrived, but just sitting for a while in this beautiful park was so inviting. What a pleasant way to spend the morning on Mother's Day, watching the families stroll through the park.

Coopera Demonstration, City Hall, Cuenca, Ecuador Aug. 13/13
This video was taken Aug 13/13 in Cuenca, Ecuador as a combined group of Ecuadorians and expatriates combined forces to put pressure on all levels of Government. The Coopera Credit Union was accused of money-laundering and the Government SEPS office immediately intervened and began liquidation the Credit Union without providing any proff or having any form of process of law. They have reimbursed most folks 100% who had $30,000 or less on deposit, but those persons with more than that are still cut off from their funds, hurting many ill and retired folks.
This whole Gestapo episode just reeks of big bank cronyismto eliminate a successful upstart. The Mayor and the Provincial Governor are largely unsympathetic and they will suffer our wrath next election.

Ecuador desde el Aire - El Centro Cívico de Guayaquil

Es el más grande de Guayaquil. Es una de las obras que más tiempo ha tardado en su construcción y remodelación, Empezó en 1.970 durante el gobierno del Dr. José María Velasco Ibarra. El 9 de octubre de 1980 el Municipio de Guayaquil lo entregó en comodato al Banco Central por 90 años. En 1990, veinte años después del inicio de su construcción fue inaugurado en la presidencia del Dr. Rodrigo Borja, sin aún estar terminado. En 2001, el Banco Central le cambió en nombre a “Plaza Artes y Oficios”, realizando presentaciones artísticas en los alrededores del teatro, dentro del parque Forestal, debido a que aún no se encontraba listo. Esta situación, duró dos años (2002 y 2003), pues debidos a cambios en la administración y asuntos presupuestarios, la obra tuvo varios atrasos. Tras varios cerrado, en enero de 2009, abrió sus puertas, bajo el nombre de Centro Cívico Eloy Alfaro.
Es una edificación de dos plantas, que tiene un teatro principal, dos mini teatros y salas de uso múltiple.
Arquitectónicamente, su edificación es muy llamativa y artística, por su domo, cuya estructura es de hierro. Esta cúpula geodésica de característica original, es la que cubre el edificio.
La planta baja, se desarrolla en un hall de ingreso en el cual se encuentran el bar, los camerinos, baterías sanitarias y rampas de circulación. En el segundo piso hay un hall de ingreso que da directamente al área de las plateas. El escenario es móvil.
El teatro, tiene un área de 60.000m2. Está compuesto por la plaza cívica, el edificio del Teatro y un Ágora rodeada por el templete de las banderas.
Al igual que la plaza cívica, el edificio del Teatro se levanta también sobre un área cuadrangular de 6.400 m2. Construidos en cuatro niveles, consta de dos plantas con 20000m2 de construcción. Dentro de esta infraestructura está el auditorio principal, con una capacidad para 1927 personas, y dos mini teatros, con capacidad para 150 personas cada uno.
En el área exterior del centro cívico se ha construido un Ágora, al estilo de las plazas públicas de las ciudades de la antigua Grecia. Tiene una capacidad para 300 personas

Creado en colaboración con la Unidad de Movimientos Indígenas de Tungurahua (Movimientos Estados indígenas de Tungurahua), los gobiernos locales y provinciales, las empresas privadas y las comunidades locales, el fondo ha movilizado US $ 2.188497 millones de conservación y restauración de más de 4.000 hectáreas de páramos y desarrollado el 27 de gestión planes de mejora de la seguridad del agua en el Ambato y cuencas de los ríos Pastaza. Festival of Lights transforms Quito's old city

The colonial centre of the Ecuadorean capital Quito is being transformed by the annual Fiesta de la Luz (Festival of Lights).
The UNESCO World Heritage Site acts a backdrop for 19 light installations and projections, attracting over two million visitors, according to the municipality.
SOUNDBITE:
Almost 3,000 metres above sea level, the city of Quito sits under the shadow of the active Pichincha volcano.
As darkness falls, the annual Fiesta de la Luz lights up this historic city.
Here in the centre of Plaza de San Francisco the convent of San Francisco is aglow with a laser show called 'Herencia' (Heritage).
It's one of 19 installations around the historic centre.
It celebrates the events of 10 August 1809, when Ecuador declared independence from Spanish colonial rule.
In 2017, two million people visited the historic centre over the course of the festival to see the light show, according to Quito's cultural office.
The narrow streets are packed tight with crowds for the free event.
With twice as many installations as the previous year, the festival is growing in strength, says Quito's cultural secretary Pablo Corral Vega.
We're going to have 19 artistic interventions around the city, basically we're taking over the public space in the old city of Quito, he explains.
We have a combination of French and Ecuadorian artists and we're extremely excited because we have grown exponentially.
Last year, we had only nine interventions and this year we have 19 interventions, of all kinds, we have light objects, we have projection, we have mapping. We have all kinds of different experiences for the people.
The festival is good news for Quito's economy too - the town hall estimates last year's festival generated $15 million USD.
There are light festivals in cities all around the world - so what makes Quito's festival different?
Well, we have one of the most important colonial downtowns in all of the world, says Pablo Corral Vega.
Quito was the first city in the world to be declared a World Heritage Site and we're celebrating the 40 years of the declaration of Quito as a World Heritage Site.
It's an extraordinarily beautiful city and what we're doing is highlighting the beauty of this incredible heritage, world heritage.
The festival gives local artists a chance to showcase their work to a wider audience.
Artists like Daniel Espinosa, who's mixing traditional Andean themes and imagery with state-of-the-art light projections.
Ayni de Luz is built around a seven-metre tall chakana (the Andean cross). Ayni is the law of reciprocity and one of the five principles of Andean life.
We are looking at the Ayni de Luz, which is a sculpture that's a fusion of music and light, creating scenes upon a structure that is a stepped cross, known as chakana, explains Espinosa.
The idea for the work is the sound, the music and the lights creating scenes that represent the law of reciprocity - the Ayni represented by the chakana.
Artist, Erik Barray came all the way from France to South America for the first time to exhibit his work.
It's the first time that I've come to South America, the first for me. A great experience, he says.
Barray's work 'Nido de Luz' (Nest of Light) occupies the central courtyard of the Cultural Centre.
The French artist worked alongside traditional indigenous Kichwa craftsmen from the lakeside town of Otavalo to create nests of light made from the traditional totora reed that grows in the lake.
