Dawson City, Yukon | Dempster Highway South | Gold Rush Star Sightings!
So we left Tuktoyaktuk and made our way down the dempster. We did the whole road in 13 hours without an overnight stop. It was exhausting, but worth it to get to Dawson City. We decided to hang out in Dawson for a few days and see some sights. Including Tony Beet's boats and we actually spotted Tony and Chris Doumitt. Saw them from the truck, so didn't get a chance to chat. But we were still a little star struck.
After our time in Dawson City we headed out on the top of the world highway and crossed over into Alaska!

Dawson City - Dredge No 4 1990
This video was shot in 1990 when the dredge was still silted in its own pond. Near the end of the gold rush, mining companies purchased claims, and floated dredges up and down the valley. Basically, the dredges would scoop ground from in front of them, screen out the large gravel, and use a sluice to separate the gold. The gravel and non-gold bearing earth would be dumped out the back end, creating a movable dam that moved the pond with them. Parks Canada has done a lot of work restoring this dredge since this video was taken.
