Classic Motorcycle Mecca Invercargill
One of Invercargill's many automotive draw cards is the superb collection of two wheelers at Motorcycle Mecca. We discovered that even if your're more a car type, it's still worth checking out.

Classic Motorcycle Collection at Motorcycle Mecca - Transport World Automotive Museum.
I admit I am not much of a motorcycle guy, but I do appreciate classic machinery. This motorcycle collection is full of beautifully restored classic motorcycles of all types. Being more attracted to the older bikes I did not film a lot of the collection. There were a heap more bikes on display. Fully recommended visit for any gear head, or motorcycle nut.

(EP27) Bill Richardson's Transport World! Invercargill, New Zealand
Yes, the 'HubNut Goes Global' tour recommences! While in Invercargill (see episode 26), I took several hours to explore Bill Richardson's Transport World. It's an incredible museum, with a large collection of classic trucks, the odd bus, several tractors and some classic cars thrown into the mix for good measure. Three generations of Richardson's family have added their own spin over the years and it is still a family business. Enjoy! (oh, there's some bonus Motorcycle footage from Bill Richardson's Motorcycle Mecca at the end).
HubNut support and shop options can be found by visiting - Christmas deadlines fast approaching! Internal stickers back in stock soon.

Bill Richardson's Transport World - Invercargill NZ - Classic Restos Series 33
Proof of Invercargill's title of the Classic Automotive hub of New Zealand is Fletch's' next stop at Bill Richardson Transport World. An Automotive Museum featuring 150 Vintage trucks, cars and transport memorabilia. Local transport company operator, Bill Richardson's love of trucks, is on display and his daughter Jocelyn talks of her father's love of vehicles and in particular his trucks and the legacy that is being continued today by his family. Graham one of the museum curators takes Fletch on a tour of just a few of the many museum highlights including a 1940 Dodge RX70 Texaco Truck, the most well know and photographed vehicle in the museum. But it's not all trucks; there is an impressive line of early Ford vehicles including a 1904 Ford AC through to a 1922 Doctors Coupe, the museum boasts 7 of the 8 models that preceded the Model T Ford, all on display in magnificently restored condition. One of the museum feature displays is a complete replica of Henry Ford's first workshop featuring a replica of the 1896 Ford Quadricycle built in 1963. The tour continues with an array of engines, petrol bowsers and transport vehicles, a hugely impressive display in Invercargill in New Zealand's Southland.

Burt Munro Challenge 2016 Invercargill Street Races
Burt Munro Munro Challenge 2016
Following the success of the 2005 movie about Burt Munro’s inspirational life – “The World’s Fastest Indian”, the Southland Motorcycle Club created the Burt Munro Challenge to honour Burt, his ingenuity, determination, and love of speed and motorcycles.
This has now become New Zealand's largest Motorcycle event (some say the Southern Hemisphere's). Riders make the annual pilgrimage from all parts of New Zealand and the World to be part of the many events. The weather is almost always rather suspect it seems. Invercargill last stop the Antarctic :-)
MUNRO FAMILY TROPHY
The Munro family has generously donated a spectacular trophy which is given to the “Competitor of the Year” at each annual Challenge. The Munro family presents the trophy in honour of Burt to the winner each year. They attend each individual event, and look for competitors who exhibit similar traits to Burt.
Things they look for:
Does the competitor compete in Burt’s speciality events?
Does the competitor maintain their own machines?
Does the competitor make their own parts?
Is the competitor determined to give everything they have to win?
This year it was the Street Races turn to have rather inclement weather but Southlander's are a hardy bunch & racing went on, greasy track, slippery manhole covers & painted lines and all. It was only when parts of the barrier fence blew down that racing was called off early. It was much wetter, darker and cold than it looks in this - the magic of CyberLink's Color Director 5
Enjoy my attempt at capturing parts of several races.
Come and enjoy next years if you are brave enough.

This is a side trip I took during my stay in New Zealand. So worth the 2 hour drive where we got lost, almost ran out of gas and hubby got a speeding ticket, lol. If you are in NZ especially during the holiday season, do not speed even though there are hardly any cars around! The police are out to enforce the speed limit!
The original bike is on display in Invercargill in a hardware store, believe it or not. I did not get a chance to see it but I'm happy I got to see the special room in the Southland Museum dedicated to local legend, Burt Munro. If you have not seen The World's Fastest Indian I highly recommend it. One of my favorite movies of all time... =)
Burt's engineering:
Cast his own heads, machined his own rocker gears, cast and machined his own pistons, machined his own con rod from truck axles, made his own fly wheel made from hydraulic ram shaft, raised the compression to run on ethanol, split the cam shaft to make four lobes on two cams to operate the overhead valve assembly, reversed the pedals so the right foot changed the gears and the left, the clutch.
factoids:
600 cc converted to 1000cc, 22 inches off the ground at top clamp, 33 inches high at highest point, streamliner body was 12 feet long and was made in 2 halves split on its vertical line, wheel base 60.5 inches, the bike was ridden in kneeling position.

Pedro Mota World Ride - Subscribe if you enjoy the ride
Almost two weeks with no internet but we are back online now. Me and Alp go check out the legendary Fastest Indian motorcycle in Invercargill. The bike built by the equally legendary Kiwi Burt Munro which set the speed record in Bonneville, America. Locals know all about the location but it was a bit strange at first to see a museum inside a store. Not much motorbike riding this day but plenty of motorcycle looking. Met a few interesting people too which made the visit even more than worth it. The day when I also saw the Honda Transalp of dreams.
My name is Pedro Mota and I ride my trusty motorcycle around the world. Me and Alp have been on the road now for over two years and have ridden through at least thirty countries. This motorcycle adventure has taken us through Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, Russia, East Asia and Australia. This world is our playground and more is to come. Join me and my Honda Transalp on this motorbike ride around the world and experience life on the road. A man and his motorcycle living the dream. Because life there is only one. Do extraordinary things and live the adventure.
