Late Model Series, Dixie Speedway, Woodstock, Georgia, United States, North America
Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is a racing championship series for dirt late model stock cars, founded in 2005. It is one of two such touring series' on dirt ovals in the United States. The series is broadcast tape delayed on Speed Channel and Versus. A late model car is a car which has been recently designed or manufactured, often the latest model. The term is broadly used in car racing, and often appears in common use, as in: The officer was driving an unmarked, late model sedan. The precise definition of late model varies. For example, according to the Michigan Department of Motor Vehicles, a late-model vehicle is defined as a vehicle 8,000 pounds (3,629 kg) or less manufactured in one of the last six model years, or A vehicle 8,001 pounds or more manufactured in one of the last 16 model years. Late model race cars are the highest class of local stock car racing vehicles at many race tracks in Australia, the United States and North America. Some regional and lower national-level series race in late models. Varieties of late models (ranked from highest vehicle performance to lowest) include Super Late Models, Late Models, and Limited Late Models. Some series require crate motors to be utilized by racecars under their sanction. Vehicles raced on dirt are significantly different from vehicles raced on asphalt. Asphalt late model racing is an extremely common stepping stone for drivers who race in regional and national touring series including NASCAR. Racers of both dirt and asphalt Late Models have won the national championship of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. Almost every NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver raced in the class while progressing their career, and many crew chiefs have also developed through this level. Many often run in Late Model classes during off-weeks or special races, while some drivers who did not advance through this level (such as Juan Pablo Montoya) have since raced a Late Model. For example, in 2007, Montoya raced the Prelude to the Dream at Eldora Speedway, a charity event with NASCAR Sprint Cup and other notable drivers. Late Model-type cars are also prevalent as a form of cost-cutting in road racing. As many of these oval cars can be adjusted to become road race cars (weight balance changes), SCCA has listed them in the GTA category, and with the affordability of a Late Model Stock Car in the category ($30,000 cars with specification engines, and frequently purchased used NASCAR wheels), these cars are prevalent in club racing. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is the premier national touring sanctioning body for dirt super late models. The Series will sanction 47 events in 19 different states in 2014. These Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt racecars are on the cutting edge of technology in construction and are powered by 800 horsepower V-8 engines based on the Chevy, Ford and Mopar power plants. Nothing is stock about these $70,000 machines that provide dirt slinging, sideways, door-to-door racing action lap after lap. The in your face excitement of a Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event is second to none in motorsports! The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series provided its many race fans the most exciting and entertaining events in 2013. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series averaged 44 entries per event in 2013, the highest average of any touring series in the country. The LOLMDS also had over 471 different drivers competing at least once with the series in 2013. The Series will sanction numerous marquee events in 2014 including the Winternationals at East Bay Raceway Park, Show-Me 100 at Lucas Oil Speedway, Clash at the Mag at Magnolia Motor Speedway, Silver Dollar Nationals at I-80 Speedway, Sunoco North/South 100 at Florence Speedway, COMP Cams Topless 100 at Batesville Motor Speedway, Hillbilly Hundred at I-77 Raceway Park, Jackson 100 at Brownstown Speedway, Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway and the season finale $50,000 to win Dirt Track World Championship at Portsmouth Raceway Park. In 2014 Lucas Oil Products and the Team Lucas Partners have expanded the TV package for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. For the first time in series history the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will air LIVE on the MAVTV American Real Network on February 13th from East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL. A total of fifteen (15) events will air on TV in 2014 and broadcasted on four (4) different TV Networks including CBS, CBS Sports Network, NBC Sports, and the MAVTV American Real Network.

Shotgun Tribute #3 (Savannah, GA)
We toast to General James Oglethorpe, the British soldier and humanitarian who in 1733 founded the colony of Georgia. Learn a bit about historic Savannah - Oglethorpe's first settlement and now one of the few cities in America that allows drinking on the street (which, of course, is mostly why we're here). Oh, and see who won.

Georgia is a state located in the southeastern United States. It was established in 1732, the last of the original Thirteen Colonies. Named after King George II of Great Britain, Georgia was the fourth state to ratify the United States Constitution, on January 2, 1788. It declared its secession from the Union on January 19, 1861, and was one of the original seven Confederate states.
It was the last state to be restored to the Union, on July 15, 1870. Georgia is the 24th most extensive and the 8th most populous of the 50 United States. From 2007 to 2008, 14 of Georgia's counties ranked among the nation's 100 fastest-growing, second only to Texas. Georgia is known as the Peach State and the Empire State of the South. Atlanta is the state's capital and its most populous city.
Georgia is bordered on the south by Florida; on the east by the Atlantic Ocean and South Carolina; on the west by Alabama; and on the north by Tennessee and North Carolina. The northern part of the state is in the Blue Ridge Mountains, a mountain range in the Appalachian Mountain system. The central Piedmont extends from the foothills to the fall line, where the rivers cascade down in elevation to the continental coastal plain of the southern part of the state.
The highest point in Georgia is Brasstown Bald, 4,784 feet (1,458 m); the lowest point is the Atlantic Ocean. Georgia is the most extensive state east of the Mississippi River in terms of land area, although it is the fourth most extensive (after Michigan, Florida, and Wisconsin) in total area, including expanses of water that are part of state territory.
History
Before settlement by Europeans, Georgia was inhabited by the mound building cultures. The British colony of Georgia was founded by James Oglethorpe on February 12, 1733 (February 1, 1732 O.S.). The colony was administered by the Trustees for the Establishment of the Colony of Georgia in America under a charter issued by (and named for) King George II.
The Trustees implemented an elaborate plan for the colony's settlement, known as the Oglethorpe Plan, which envisioned an agrarian society of yeoman farmers and prohibited slavery. In 1742 the colony was invaded by the Spanish during the War of Jenkins' Ear. In 1752, after the government failed to renew subsidies that had helped support the colony, the Trustees turned over control to the crown. Georgia became a crown colony, with a governor appointed by the king.
Province of Georgia was one of the Thirteen Colonies that revolted against British rule in the American Revolution by signing the 1776 Declaration of Independence. After the war, Georgia became the fourth state of the Union by ratifying the Constitution on January 2, 1788.
In 1829, gold was discovered in the North Georgia mountains, which led to the Georgia Gold Rush and an established federal mint in Dahlonega, which continued its operation until 1861. The subsequent influx of white settlers put pressure on the government to take land from the Cherokee Nation. In 1830, President Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act into law, sending many eastern Native American nations to reservations in present-day Oklahoma, including all of Georgia's tribes.
Despite the Supreme Court's ruling in Worcester v. Georgia that states were not permitted to redraw the Indian boundaries, President Jackson and the state of Georgia ignored the ruling. In 1838, his successor, Martin Van Buren, dispatched federal troops to gather the Cherokee and deport them west of the Mississippi. This forced relocation, known as the Trail of Tears, led to the death of over 4,000 Cherokees.
In early 1861, Georgia joined the Confederacy and became a major theater of the Civil War. Major battles took place at Chickamauga, Kennesaw Mountain, and Atlanta. In December 1864, a large swath of the state from Atlanta to Savannah was destroyed during General William Tecumseh Sherman's March to the Sea. 18,253 Georgian soldiers died in service, roughly 1 of every 5 who served. In 1870, following reconstruction, Georgia became the last Confederate state restored to the Union.
