Maritime of My Life (Pt. 66) - Sidney Crosby's Hometown- Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia
July 9, 2017 - I do NOT cheer for the Pittsburgh Penguins. I don't have anything against them, but they're not MY team. That said, I still respect greatness when it exists, so when I was this close to Sidney Crosby's childhood home, I had to come check it out.
Well...I found his childhood home (not pictured for obvious privacy reasons), and I did find this sign at the grand entrance to town (beside the Wal-Mart), so that was good enough for me!
It's a shame I didn't time my visit better; apparently Crosby is coming home to parade the Stanley Cup around a third time on his 30th birthday (born: 08/07/1987, hence his jersey number); I was off by less than a month!
On a more personal level though, thank you for your part in 2010 and 2014, Sid!

Shooting at 52 Arklow Drive in Cole Harbour, Nov 30. 2014... At least three people shot. Suspects fled the scene and police are looking for them...
Update:
Four men wearing bandanas and wielding guns stormed a Cole Harbour home and opened fire Sunday night, shooting three people and sparking a manhunt.
The three victims, two men and a woman, were transported to hospital, police said. Two of them are in serious condition.
The shootings at 52 Arklow Dr. were reported to police at about 7 p.m.
Two of the shooters later surrendered at a house on Caldwell Road near Deerbrooke Drive, an RCMP spokeswoman said.
“We’re in the early stages of the investigation,” Const. Sandra McNaughton said. “The integrated general investigation section has taken over the lead in the investigation and they’re still in the preliminary stages.”
The Arklow Drive house, owned by Eric David Starr, seems like other family homes on the quiet residential street.
But a next door neighbour said the house has been a source of numerous complaints to police and bylaw officers.
She said up to eight people, mostly teenagers, lived at the house.
“There’s a constant parade of teenagers coming and going,” she said.
She said she could smell “pot smoke billowing out of the windows” in the summer.
Although there were frequent gatherings at the house, she said they were usually “pretty self-contained.”
However, she said the get-togethers sometimes ended in altercations. She said a police car could sometimes be seen parked outside the house.
The house has also been the source of bylaw complaints. Another neighbour said the grass was as high as her knees before it was finally cut this summer.
She also said there were several months of garbage stacked in the garage and an ensuing issue with rats.
Crowds of neighbours and curious passers-by watched Sunday night as police cordoned off the house with yellow caution tape.
Some residents out to walk their dog said the neighbourhood, about a kilometre from Cole Harbour District High School, was usually quiet.
One man said he was out for a walk when he heard sirens and then saw ambulances rushing to the scene.
“I just thought ‘This can’t be good,’” he said.
