This video takes you with us on a MOTORBIKE TRIP through the north of Colombia. We are going from Bogota to Santa Marta, which is around 1110km. We make stops on our way, including Villa de Leyva and Barichara.

Colombia Trike Tour - Tayrona to Santa Marta
This area is outstanding. I spent a couple of days enjoying the beauty. The ride to Santa Marta wasn't very long. There was one big hill to climb as I went over the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta mountains where they meet the sea. I love all the random things that happen everyday.

The Big Haul - Santa Marta, Colombia
Look how much fun you can have with a rowboat and a giant fishing net! These guys rowed their net way out into the bay and then lots of people pitched in to help them pull it back in. Quite a scene when they finally got the net full of fish back up on the beach. Never a dull moment here in Santa Marta Colombia.

There's always a first for everything right? This is a first for us, doing a Vlog.
It was fun, and we are really curious about your opinions and if you would like to see more videos like this.
We just came back from a short trip to Santa Marta, and we really enjoyed our time there. Sam and I met with our business partner Leo, who is helping Expats who want to relocate to Santa Marta. We even got the chance to meet a client whom we referred to Leo after a long time just texting with him.
It was a great and inspiring trip. We started calling Santa Marta the hidden Gem because usually, everyone talks about how beautiful Cartagena is but have never been to Santa Marta.
Santa Marta is way quieter and laid back, you see fewer tourists and the Cost Of Living is a lot lower compared to Cartagena and even compared to Medellin. That, and Santa Marta has a lot to offer, like beautiful beaches, the Tayrona Park, Ciudad Perdida a nice historical city center and much more.

Santa Marta is a really common vacation destination for Colombians coming from Medellin and especially Bogota. It is a great destination to relax at the beach, join some touristic tours and eat delicious seafood.
But Santa Marta is way more than just a vacation destination it is a hidden Expat Gem in our opinion. Santa Marta is way too underrated, usually, people don't even mention Santa Marta as an Expat destination but it surely is one!
For people who love the hot climate, can deal with humidity, love the beach and nature, Santa Marta is definitely the way to go. And I have to add that Santa Marta is even more attractive after knowing how inexpensive Cost Of Living is.
In this video, we will concentrate on the most common areas for Expats to live, such as the Historic Center, Rodadero and Cabo Tortuga / Pozo Colorado.

Colombian Train Ride
Heading northeast out of the coastal, city of Cartagena, and towards the oldest city in Colombia, Santa Marta, circa 1525, we came across an active mud volcano. The Volcan Del Totumo. We found a spot to park our car, and tipped the helpful youngster a few thousand pesos. As we approached this natural wonder we watched in amazement, at what appeared to be a voluntary, ritual of human sacrifice. Scores of people, of all ages, where stripped down and headed up a long flight of rickety stairs, that looked more like a ladder, to take a plop in the slightly more than warm mud. As we circled around the base of the volcano for a better look, we saw the same people we watched go up, come down on the other side. Aha! These people weren't crazy after all. A short flight from the volcano, and south, towards the interior of the country, is the capitol city of Bogotá, and more adventure. After a few days of rest and some business, we took the Tren de la Sabana to Zipaquira and the Catedral de Sal. We were serenaded by some of the local talent, all the way. In Cajica we were entertained by clowns on unicycles before a typically, wonderful lunch and the return trip to Bogotá. Back in Bogotá we took another rest day before we attacked Monserrate by tram and the Jardin Botánico by taxi. This is a wonderful country with lots of natural beauty. Not the least of which are the Colombian people.

3. They stop for food and vendors sell snacks.
4. Wifi is terrible.
5. Price is negotiable.
6. It is cheaper to do the border crossing yourself.
The two companies we used Expresso Bolivariano and Brasilia. We rode with Brasilia most of the time. Our routes included, Bogota to Cartagena, Cartagena to Santa Marta, Santa Marta to Medellin, and Medellin to the border town of Ipiales. Plus many other smaller bus rides in between.
