Trooping the colour 2018 Valletta Malta
Trooping the Colour In St Geoeges Square Valletta this morning, brilliant Parade, a few snags but on the whole 1st Class. Sorry about the quality, however it is my first time shooting a video.
Scenes from Valletta, Malta
As Malta’s capital city, it’s no surprise that there are many things to do in Valletta. The city was founded by the Knights of Malta in 1566, who left behind lots of points of interest. There’s everything from formidable fortifications and lush gardens to pretty palaces and family-owned shops.
In this episode, I capture some of Valletta’s grander attractions, as well as the smaller details that make this Mediterranean city so appealing.

Transcription:
Through the City Gate of Valletta,
past the formidable walls
built by the Knights of St. John,
you will find dramatic architecture
and lively festivals
characterized by color
and lots of music.
Valletta was established in 1566 and designed in a grid pattern,
but it has enough flourishes
to keep things interesting.
As Malta’s capital city,
Valletta plays host to the country’s prime minister.
It also hosts international summits
and the Maltese Parliament,
which was designed by Renzo Piano.
Much of Valletta, to include the opera house,
was destroyed during World War Two.
But, Valletta has seen a rebirth in recent years,
injecting lots of life into the city.
There are many details to look for in Valletta,
including ornamental door-knockers
and the Maltese cross, a symbol of the Knights of St. John.
You will also spot statues tucked into niches
and olive trees dancing in the breeze.
Valletta’s location on a rugged peninsula
means that it has dramatic views of the Mediterranean
and of Malta’s coastal fortifications.
The Upper Barrakka Gardens
are one of the best places to soak up these views.
While you’re there, have a coffee break and maybe a cat nap.
Afterwards, stroll past colorful buildings,
up the city’s hilly streets,
until you reach a statue of Valletta’s namesake.
You might notice that almost everywhere you walk,
you’ll see enclosed, wooden balconies called “gallariji.”
Some are painted in vibrant hues,
while others have laundry drying in the Mediterranean breeze.
On Republic Street, you’ll find the Grandmaster’s Palace.
It was built in the 1560s. Throughout the centuries,
it has housed the knights’ grandmasters, British colonial governors, and Parliament.
Today, it’s the office of the President of Malta.
Near the Grandmaster’s Palace is the National Library.
It was the last official building constructed by the knights
and it’s a great place to delve deeper into Maltese history.
Even though Valletta is a capital city,
life here moves at a slower pace.
Locals take time for long chats,
and stroll the sun-drenched lanes,
sometimes, with a feisty Chihuahua in tow.
Horse-drawn carriages carrying tourists are a common sight,
while fishing and seaside barbecues are also popular.
Valletta has just under 6,000 residents
and still has family-owned shops.
They sell everything from fresh produce
and hand-made filigree jewelry
to sweet treats.
Many shopkeepers speak both Maltese and English, which are the country’s official languages.
Fort St. Elmo was the scene of intense fighting during the Great Siege of 1565.
Today, it houses the National War Museum.
Nearby, are the Lower Barrakka Gardens,
where you’ll find fragrant Oleander flowers,
a few palm trees,
and stunning views of Fort St. Angelo and the Three Cities.
This is a superb spot to watch the clouds roll by,
to read a good book,
or perhaps enjoy a picnic
while taking in
incredible scenes of Valletta.

Malta | We travel to the beautiful country of Malta
We traveled to the stunning island of Malta in April for both work and vacation time. We stayed in Valletta, visited the beautiful city of Birgu, and the island of Gozo to see the remains of the once Azure Window and the stunning Wied il Ghasri. We also visited the awesome Playmobil factory and fun park in the town of Birzebbuga. Parents of kiddos, this place is a MUST when visiting Malta!
We then stayed in Sliema, and took small trips throughout the city and just beyond, while there. One of the more awe-inspiring destinations was Mdina, which is also known as the Silent City . We loved wandering through the quiet streets, spotting sites that were filmed for Game of Thrones, and just enjoying the architecture. Malta was rich in history, rich in kindness, and rich in beauty. We will definitely be back!

TRITON FOUNTAIN in Valletta Malta (European City Of Culture 2018)
THE TRITON FOUNTAIN IN VALLETTA MALTA (The European City Of Culture 2018). One of Valletta and Malta's most important tourist landmarks, the Triton Fountain sits just outside the walls and ancient city gates of Valletta.
Designed by the sculptor Vincent Apap and the designer Victor Anastasi, the Triton Fountain became fully operational on 16 May 1959.
The Triton Fountain was damaged when the platter collapsed in 1978, and repair works done to the fountain in 1986 did not fit in with its original design.
The Triton fountain deteriorated in subsequent decades, until the bronze figures were dismantled and restored in 2017.
Works were ready by the end of the year, and the Triton fountain and piazza just outside the city gates of Valletta were officially inaugurated on 12 January 2018
A must see tourist attraction if you visit Malta, The Triton Fountain looks majestic whether you visit in the daytime in the heat of the Malta sun, or the night time when the illuminated water and fountain come alive. Definitely one of the must see Malta tourist attractions

ABOUT THE TRITON FOUNTAIN:
The Triton fountain consists of three bronze figures of mythological Tritons holding up a platter.
Two of the Tritons are sitting, while the third one is kneeling, and they are balanced on a seaweed base.
Little known fact - The face of each Triton on the fountain is visible when viewed from Valletta City Gate.
The restored Triton fountain was officially inaugurated on 12 January 2018, by Malta's Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.
The works were completed a week ahead of Valletta taking its position as European Capital of Culture 2018.
If you're visiting Malta don't forget to visit this beautiful sight. It's a great way to start your visit to Valletta!
The site of the triton fountain was formerly occupied by St. Madeleine's Lunette, a 17th-century lunette that protected the entrance to Valletta.
The lunette was dismantled and its ditch was filled in with rubble in the 19th century, although some parts might have survived beneath the present street level.
The area was eventually used as a bus terminus, and in January 1953 the Ministry for Public Works and Reconstruction launched a competition for designing a fountain in this empty Valletta space.
The competition was open to everyone except for those who worked at the Public Works Department, and the first prize was of £100.
The winning proposal for the fountain was entitled Triton, and it was submitted by the sculptor Vincent Apap.
It was designed in collaboration with the draughtsman and designer Victor Anastasi, who was not mentioned on the proposal since he was employed by the PWD.
Apap worked on the sculpture of three Tritons in stucco at a former dovecote in Palazzo Parisio, which had been made available by his friend, the marquis Joe Scicluna. Meanwhile, Anastasi worked on the technical and architectural elements of the triton fountain, including the hydraulic systems, and costs and supplies of materials to Valletta.

Valletta City _Malta || Walking To Valletta City || Saroj Mahat
Valletta, Malta’s capital and a World Heritage site, is nothing short of an open-air museum. It is a living experience of Baroque architecture, a monument donated by the Knights of St John nearly five centuries ago. Throughout the years, Valletta has welcomed emperors, heads of state, artists and poets and is now the permanent seat of the Maltese government.
Dotted with quaint cafés and wine bars, the city is today one of Malta’s main tourist attractions, hosting among others, the majestic St John’s Co- Cathedral, the imposing bastions and a treasure of priceless paintings. It also provides a stunning snapshot of Malta’s Grand Harbour, often described as the most beautiful in the Mediterranean.
The city’s unique setting nowadays plays host to a series of cultural events, from theatre in English, to concerts by leading opera singers.
A hive of business activity during the day, the city switches to a slower gear for the night. Use it to your advantage to get away from the noise and take a stroll to admire the magic of the fortified capital amplified by the gentle lighting. Admire the bastion walls, the dense clusters of worn limestone buildings, the timber balconies, and imposing Churches.

By the time the evening is near. The alley revives. Because restaurants in the street start business. Meals enjoyed on the old-fashioned staircase make simple dishes feel fine cuisine. In this taste, there are many people who made the alley a mat. Valeta alley, because I walked in an alley, my throat was very dry. At this moment, in this atmosphere! Beer is better than water. I also ordered a beer. There was a tasty beer in the world as you poured a sip of fresh juice. Here, the service-added peanut adds flavor.

The night came without fail. A medieval fortified city that lit up the night sea. I feel calm in a quiet atmosphere. But somewhere I heard the music. It seemed that the concert was held in the alley that I went to during the day yesterday. From the nearby café, all the stairs are already full through the small bridge between the cafes! I wanted to have a show, jazz. On Friday evening, free jazz performances are held in the Valletta alley. At this time, both tourists and locals gather in the alley. A young child in his mother's hand also enjoys jazz. I am 82 years old. I played on the ship for 65 years. I do not play on the ship now. I am a Maltese from Malta. Good sunshine, good people. Do I need further explanation? I like jazz and I like to play jazz. We just went to dinner. It was too good. My friend recommended it. I happened to find this place on my way down the passenger ship. It is large and energetic and has a large number of people from various countries. The band also plays, and it's a nice atmosphere. So far, it has not become a tourist attraction. Just like us, please come. Friday night, the hot jazz fever filled the alley so the sun did not hurt.

Il-lejl daħal mingħajr dubju. Belt imqawwija medjevali li fetħet il-baħar bil-lejl. Inħoss kalma f'atmosfera kwieta. Imma x'imkien smajt il-mużika. Deher li l-eżekuzzjoni saret fis-sqaq li kont immur matul il-ġurnata ta 'bieraħ. Mill-kafetterija fil-qrib, it-turġien kollha huma diġà mimlija mill-pont żgħir bejn il-kafejiet! Jien ridt li jkolli xi wirja, jazz. Nhar il-Ġimgħa filgħaxija, isiru eżempji ta 'jazz ħielsa fis-sqaq tal-Belt Valletta. F'dan iż-żmien, kemm turisti kif ukoll nies tal-post jinġabru fis-sqaq. Tifel żgħir fl-idejn ta 'ommu jgawdi wkoll jazz. Għandi 82 sena. Jien kont fuq il-vapur għal 65 sena. M'iniex fuq il-bastiment issa. Jiena Malti minn Malta. Xemx tajjeb, nies tajbin. Għandi bżonn aktar spjegazzjoni? Jien inħobb il-jazz u nieħu pjaċir nilgħab. Aħna biss marru għall-pranzu. Kien wisq tajjeb. Ħabib tiegħi rrakkomandah. I ġara li ssib dan il-post fit-triq tiegħi lejn il-vapur tal-passiġġieri. Hija kbira u enerġetika u għandha numru kbir ta 'nies minn diversi pajjiżi. Il-medda tilgħab ukoll, u hija atmosfera sabiħa. S'issa, ma saritx attrazzjoni turistika. Eżatt bħalna, jekk jogħġbok ġejjin. Il-Ġimgħa bil-lejl, id-deni ta 'hot jazz mimlija s-sqaq sabiex ix-xemx ma tweġġax.
