Suddenly, the ships began to gather at one point. I think I found something. What did it show? At this time, people point to something with their hands. A white water column is visible. Humpback whales! The winter humpback whales in Hawaii and Mexico swim over 5,000 kilometers in the spring to Alaska. The humpback whale, knowing that no one is hurting herself here, dares to reveal its tail slowly. After a while, finally the Columbia glacier begins to look far away. It gets colder and colder near the glacier. The blue drift ice from the glacier is filling the ocean. Allow the crew to get a piece of glacier and touch it directly to the passengers. There are too many drift ice. In the glacier, the ice continues to fall off. Ten million tons of ice drops a day. Ten million tons a day! Looking at the small scattered drift ice, I can see how enormous it is. If there are so many drift ice, the ship can not move forward. Unfortunately, I had to come back because I could not get near the Columbia glacier.

설명
Ice Cave Near Columbia Glacier, Valdez, Alaska
I thought we were going into a regular rock cave, the moment I realized it was an ice cave I got so excited that I missed my step and stepped into a patch of thick glacial sludge and lost my boot.

columbia glacier range - a cruise away from valdez, alaska
Experience the marvelous blue ice blocks floating on the coast of valdez. You can also notice blocks with dirt on it making it blackish color. There was like a bridge of ice on the water, a shoreline formed by waves making their way through these blocks.

Retreat of Alaska's Columbia Glacier
The Columbia Glacier descends from an ice field 3,050 meters (10,000 feet) above sea level, down the flanks of the Chugach Mountains, and into a narrow inlet that leads into Prince William Sound in southeastern Alaska. It is one of the most rapidly changing glaciers in the world. To learn more, visit:

next day. I decided to take a helicopter to Columbia glacier. Fortunately, the weather is very sunny, and the view from the sky is a different feeling from yesterday. Yesterday I went only by the sea, but today I fly over the mountains to the Columbia glacier. Over the top of the mountain, a white snowy field appears. At first glance, it looks like a snow field, but it is actually a clear blue glacier. We go a little further here and we see a huge glacier. I wanted to see Columbia Glacier! I could not keep my mouth shut in a majestic glacier. The area is 1.5 times that of Seoul, so you can not even imagine the scale. The Columbia Glacier, full of crevasse, is a place that never allows people access. Landed on the beach 2 kilometers away from the glacier. A glacier just looks like a huge ice block, but it actually moves like a creature. At this moment, it is constantly flowing down from the mountain to the sea. But now, it is said that the glacier is melting faster than the speed of movement due to global warming. The Columbia Glacier is the second most active glacier in Alaska. I'm going down about 30 meters a day. Maybe someday this glacier would disappear completely? It is too bad to think.

Columbia Glacier and Wildlife Tour (SS Lulu Belle) Valdez AK
We had a day out on the LuLu Belle, out of Valdez Harbour and visited the islands in the Prince William Sound, looking for wildlife and found otters, puffins and visited the Columbia Glacier.
Captain Fred is a very interesting and animated host, there is food on board at reasonable price and it is good quality.
Take a warm jacket - we learnt that the glacial face is very very cold....
Columbia Glacier, Alaska, 1986-2011
The Columbia Glacier in Alaska is one of many vanishing around the world. Glacier retreat is one of the most direct and understandable effects of climate change. The consequences of the decline in alpine glaciers include contributing to global sea level rise.

Alaska's Columbia Glacier
Alaska is littered with glaciers. One of the largest is Columbia Glacier, near the Valdez area. As you'll see here it's an awesome sight and must be visited via a private boat or cruise. Still it's worth the trip. Icebergs litter the bay and sea otters can be seen on the journey.
