Columbia River Trail BC Genelle Island
A big thank you to my awesome crew out there! A captain is only as good as the crew! Fantastic day on the big Island! No diving out there but i did find a few spots i'll drag my gear back too. I'm betting there is a fair amount of fishing gear on the bottom.
I've always wanted to walk around, have a fire and picnic and even spend the nite on the big island at Genelle! Great time!
Columbia River Trail BC Feb 2019
Finally got a break from the snow here in the West Kootenays so we managed to launch the boat in Trail for a quick cruise on the Columbia River in -6 degree Fahrenheit! This is a good time of year to use the new Trail boat launch since there is only room for 1 truck and trailer at a time here. Way to go Trail! Great boat ride at least! Love that river! Thanks Joe for co captaining today!

Athabasca Glacier & Skywalk 2019
27th June 2019
Visited while on holiday touring the Rockies.
We got the first tour of the day at 9am and arriving early (8.20am) gave us enough time to pop to the toilet in the centre first and still be first in the que. It was about 90min drive from Jasper.
*If visiting in busier months then i would advise booking the earliest time possible so it doesn't feel like a cattle market on the glacier.
I waited 2 days before booking our tour as i wanted the best chance for good weather, although the weather can change anytime when we went.
We were really lucky as the day before people were stood there in rain and hail !

Glacier Skywalk
Brewster Travel Canada (Brewster) is proposing to develop a stunning world-class, fully accessible unique viewing experience in Jasper National Park known as the Glacier Skywalk. This proposed development will provide an immersive, interpretive guided experience focusing on the wonder of the unique ecosystem, glaciology, natural and aboriginal history of the Columbia Icefield area in the Canadian Rockies. The Glacier Skywalk, as it will be known, will consist of a 400 metre interpretive boardwalk and a glass-floored observation platform extending 30 metres out over the Sunwapta Valley, that will be accessible to all Canadians and visitors, and regardless of mobility challenges. The Glacier Skywalk will enable visitors to engage with this dramatic landscape in a way that was not previously accessible to the majority of visitors. For more information, visit

A very cold December 2016 day. Kudos to the band leading hundreds of Trailites over the bridge for the very first time.

Hiking Columbia Icefield | Glacier Walking | Alberta, Canada
You’re not dreaming. This is pure 10,000-year-old glacial ice. Very tasty. Explore glacier-walking adventures:
Listen to the trickle of ancient glacier meltwater and ride a huge Ice Explorer bus (it’s like a city bus with monster-truck wheels). And don’t miss the Columbia Icefield Skywalk – a glass observation platform 280 m (919 ft.) in the sky. This is as cool as it gets.

Biggest Mural in Western Canada, 3D, River Reconnect, Trail BC
The mural by Canadian Murals, Trail BC. This large scale mural covers over 10,000 sq ft., six walls and three varying aspects. The Canadian Murals team drew on the architecture of the building to provide unique yet interwoven 3D canvases depicting the complex relationship and history between nature and humans along the Columbia River, the largest river in North America. From left to right, the left side of the building draws on the history of the Columbia River and its tributaries which had a central role for the region's Indigenous cultures and economies dating millenia back. It provided resources and transportation since ancient times, and linked numerous cultural groups. Many European explorers sought to navigate the Columbia's waters, which was finally accomplished by explorer David Thompson at the turn of the 19th century. As national boundaries were drawn across North America the Columbia became a transnational river, depicted by the eagle perched representing the USA and the other wing spread as a maple leaf representing Canada. The front of the mural shows salmon swimming up the river. They used to provide the main subsistence to the river's ecology and economy. However, intensive development along the river, particularly hydroelectric damns, have closed the river off to the annual migrations of salmon, and affected many other species. Water flowing from the hands is a symbol that the future of the river is in our hands. As well, depicts the efforts of humans to revitalize the river's natural abundance with initiatives such as the Juvenile Sturgeon Release Program. The farthest reach of the mural on the right side shows clean water and healthy river ecology - the future vision of the mighty Columbia River.
