Many of those rescued are now sheltering at Constellation Field, home to the unaffiliated minor baseball team the Sugar Land Skeeters.
The team has welcomed people to stay inside until they can return to their homes.

(I) noticed it was an American plane. I sort of didn't want to believe it was because it's friendly, isn't it? And then, I was feeling scared and that, and signalling to him that we were in fact friendly and not Iraqis and all the rest of it. And then I just, there was just a sense of helplessness like there was nothing I could do about it.

STORYLINE
A repatriation ceremony was held on board HMS Ark Royal on Monday for one British and one American serviceman killed in the Gulf.
Lieutenant Tom Adams from the US Navy and Lieuteant Phil West from the British Navy were among seven who died when two Royal Navy Sea King helicopters collided over a week ago.
The helicopters crashed about eight kilometres from their base on the Ark Royal, as one returned from a mission and the other headed out for the same operation.
On board another British ship in the Gulf, an injured British soldier described feeling helpless as he tried to signal to a US pilot that he was not the enemy during a friendly fire incident in southern Iraq on Friday.
British Trooper Chris Finney of the Household Cavalry's D Squadron spoke about his ordeal from medical facilities on board Royal Fleet Auxiliary Argus.
British defence officials are investigating the incident in which Finney's colleague Lance Corporal Matty Hull was killed and several other British troops were wounded.
Meanwhile, the US ambassador to Germany, Daniel Coates, on Monday paid tribute to injured US soldiers brought back from the Gulf for treatment at Landstuhl Regional Medical Centre in Germany.
Also on Monday, some US personnel injured in the Gulf arrived for medical treatment at the Rota navy base, which Spain owns and shares with the United States.
Naval corpsman 3rd class Carlos Cordova from Sugarland, Texas, who is recovering from a shrapnel wound to his right forearm, told reporters about the incident in which he was injured.
A week ago, he was helping load an automatic grenade launcher when a mortar round struck nearby.
The firefight took place near the southern city of Nasiriyah on what the American described as a routine security patrol.
The Rota naval base in southern Spain is expected to double the size of its hospital facilities to 250 beds to handle expected casualties from the war in Iraq.
