Chef Pete Evans Helps Prepare Italian Feast in Bologna, Italy
Join Moveable Feast with Fine Cooking for its first-ever visit to Bologna, the culinary capital of Italy. Host Pete Evans meets Stefano Corvucci, founder of the Culinary Institute of Bologna, and learns why the Po River Valley gives its famed Grana Padano such distinguished flavor. The two chefs are joined by Stefano’s colleague Lucia Bezzi on a visit to the Mercato di Mezzo, a food market that’s been buzzing since the Middle Ages. Stefano and Lucia bring to life iconic regional dishes like lasagne bolognese, tortelloni, and tiramisu, using techniques and instincts they’ve inherited and cultivated from family.

Italian Town of Bologna (Italy) - Travel Guide
Take a tour of Italian Town of Bologna in Bologna, Italy - part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
One of the most popular cities in Italy for history, food, and beauty is Bologna.
Nearly the entire city is built using a warm red stone, giving it a unified appearance and the nickname the red one.
One of Bologna's famous features is the twenty-eight miles of old porticoes that run throughout the city.
It boasts the second largest historical center in Europe, containing medieval churches, and the world's oldest university.
The streets of the city frequently open up into beautiful plazas, which are a common gathering place for Bologna's residents.
The best view of the city can be gained from the top of the Asinelli Tower, which is nearly 320 feet high.
Besides all the sights, Bologna is home to some of the best Italian cuisine in all of Italy and is famous for its restaurants.

EATING ITALIAN FOOD in Bologna. 5 Must Try Dishes in Italy (Canadians try Italian Food)
We spent a day eating loads of delicious Italian food in Bologna, Italy. Bologna, the capital of Emilia-Romagna is known to be the food capital of Italy (and maybe even the world). We tried to stick to dishes primarily from this region.
We started our day eating one of the most delicious sandwiches we’ve ever had, a piadina! Filled with cured pork, soft cheese, and rocket (arugula), all in flat bread, it was amazing!
Next up we headed to Mercato Delle Erbe (a local food market) to get a glass of locally made white wine and tagliere (a meat and cheese board)- filled with mortadella, salami, prosciutto, and parmigiano reggiano.
Lastly we headed to dinner where we shared a bottle of locally made sangiovese. To start we tried a vegetable pie, primarily made of spinach and covered in a light cheese sauce. Trevor had tagliatelle with ragu sauce (in the rest of the world we refer to this as bolognese but they don’t call it that in Bologna), and Anna had tortellini in brodo (pork tortellini in broth).
Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. We’d highly encourage you to eat your way through Bologna!

Piadina:
Piada or Piadina Romagnola and “Piada alla Riminese” are the names used to describe this tasteful Italian product, made with simple and natural ingredients, following the traditional recipes of the rural inhabitants from Emilia Romagna.
Tortellini in brodo:
Tortellini en brodo (in broth) is a traditional first course for Christmas feasts in northern Italy. Because it calls for only a few ingredients, make sure they are of the highest quality, especially the chicken stock
Mercato Delle Erbe:
A place where you can do your daily shopping, as well as taste the products you are taking home with you, while sitting comfortably with a glass of good wine, or simply drop in for a drink and a bite to eat. Do not miss the chance to stop for a lunch or a dinner in one of the little restaurants or stands that offer you all kind of fresh products!
It was started as a herb market at the beginning of the century, first renovated by Philip Buriani and Arturo Carpi in 1910 and rebuilt into the present market after the devastation of war. Besides, the noble Old Market that has been well known to all tourists, Mercato delle Erbe has been staying in the hearts of people from Bologna, of all the old and young, evoking memories, representing a habit and culture.
Bologna:
Bologna is a historical city, with around 380,000 inhabitants. Although it is well known by Italians, it is less so among foreign visitors. Little English is spoken by its residents. It is the capital and largest city of Emilia-Romagna (a region in northern Italy). Bologna is famed for having the oldest university in the Western world, a lively student population, exquisite food, typical brick terracotta-roofed architecture and porticos, theatre and nightlife.
Bologna is famous for its cuisine (la cucina Bolognese). It is also viewed as a progressive and well administered city. It is considered second only to Venice in beauty by many Italians
