The Copperbelt Museum, Ndola Zambia
The Copperbelt Museum was established in 1962 by a steering committee of civic and mine leaders. The goal was to establish a living museum thus a gallery of natural history with emphasis on ecology, geology, mining and local history.
Zambia’s independence in 1964, led to the creation of the National Museums Board in 1966 under the new Museums Act. The Copperbelt Museum was gazetted as the second national museum after the Livingstone Museum in 1968. As a result of an increasing collection, the same year the collection was moved from Caravel House to Bwafwano House in Buteko Avenue, until 1978 when the museum moved to its present premises along the same avenue.
The present size of the Museum has been a challenge to many public programs that cannot be held at the museum. However, the museum is being transformed into a vibrant, innovative and popular museum under the theme of Science and Technology. The land has been acquired in a strategic location near the Mufulira roundabout closer to the new football stadium and en route to the new shopping complex in Mitengo area.
I visited the museum on 21st October 2019, just a few days before Independence, hence the flags all over the building.

The Road Transport Development Agency cautioned. 20.11.17
Copperbelt Minister BOWMAN LUSAMBO has cautioned the Road Development Agency-RDA NOT to award local based contractors who are incompetent to work on the over 11.5 million United states Dollars kwacha levy Mwanawasa and kafulafuta toll plaza on the Copperbelt.
And Mr. LUSAMBO has expressed disappointment that a Lusaka based contractor has ben awarded a contract at KAFULAFUTA toll plaza.
The Minister said the action was working contrary to president EDGAR LUNGU’S directive of awarding 20 percent contracts to Copperbelt based contractors.
He was speaking to journalists when he toured KAFULAFUTA, levy Mwanawasa toll plaza and KAFULAFUTA weigh bridge.
Mr. LUSAMBO was accompanied by Ndola District commissioner George Chisulo, masaiti district commissioner mike Mulenga, among other.
MR. LUSAMBO who is also Kabushi member of parliament further wondered by RDA has continued terminating contracts to local contractors based contractors on account that they are failing to meet the standards.
He added that government cannot continue loosing huge colossal sums of money on projects that local contractors have failed to finish.
The minister has directed RDA Copperbelt province regional manager to give him a comprehensive report why the agency has continued terminating contracts to local based contractors.
Meanwhile –RDA JOSEPH HIMULI has promised the minister that the report will be issued out by tomorrow afternoon.
And masaiti district commissioner MIKE MULENGA has thanked appealed to Government to consider putting a toll plaza along the Luanshya masaiti road.
Mr. MULENGA said this because most of the trucks are avoiding paying toll fees along the Ndola Kapiri Mposhi toll plaza and ending up using the other road reducing the life span of the road.

People go there to wash in the water as they believe that touching this water will cleanse them of all their troubles, people also go there for prayer as they believe that this site is a gift from God.
Some kids walk through this very hot water and when, asked how they could do that, they said that they go there everyday to practice. The water from the Hot springs flows into the nearby Chibuyu Street. The water comes from the ground and is as hot as a cup of coffee (metaphorically).
The charges are only K8 for Zambian Adults and K4 for Zambian Children. It is a must see. So go ahead, plan your trip to the Chinyunyu Hot Springs and see the naturally hot water coming from the ground.
