Planetariums in Japan Japanology
A planetarium is a theatre built primarily for presenting educational and entertaining shows about astronomy and the night sky, or for training in celestial navigation.
A dominant feature of most planetaria is the large dome-shaped projection screen onto which scenes of stars, planets and other celestial objects can be made to appear and move realistically to simulate the complex 'motions of the heavens'. The celestial scenes can be created using a wide variety of technologies, for example precision-engineered 'star balls' that combine optical and electro-mechanical technology, slide projector, video and fulldome projector systems, and lasers. Whatever technologies are used, the objective is normally to link them together to provide an accurate relative motion of the sky. Typical systems can be set to display the sky at any point in time, past or present, and often to show the night sky as it would appear from any point of latitude on Earth.
Planetaria range in size from the Hayden Planetarium's 21-meter dome seating 423 people, to three-meter inflatable portable domes where children sit on the floor. Such portable planetaria serve education programs outside of the permanent installations of museums and science centers.
The term planetarium is sometimes used generically to describe other devices which illustrate the solar system, such as a computer simulation or an orrery. Planetarium software refers to a software application that renders a three-dimensional image of the sky onto a two-dimensional computer screen. The term planetarian is used to describe a member of the professional staff of a planetarium.

AW 18
SKY IS THE LIMIT.
Growing Pains_tokyo and brands owner Mademoiselle_Yulia surprised her audience again. For all previous collections Yulia was showing us that her creativity is absolute.
This season couldn’t be different. In Shibuya #cosmoplanetariumshibuya runway become a space ship. Performance, because how can I call it different, of strong characters from some #sciencefiction movie displayed on galaxy background. This collection is all we see on Yulia’s amazing feed. Street style mixed with classic, beautiful dresses. Absolutely in love with glittery make up – what was big inspiration from 70ties.
GROWING PAINS KILLED IT !!!

Earth From Space [ISS Time-lapse In 4K]
This video created from 66 182 photos taken during expeditions to the International Space Station (ISS). I tried very hard, so you can see our Earth as did the astronauts see from the ISS portholes, and even in 4K resolution. I hope that my work was not done in vain. Yes, I know I'm not the pioneer in making this type of video, a lot of people did them, but I think no one has yet tried to create a half-hour time-lapse videos in 4K resolution. Hope you like it! All the music will be below in the description. Pleasant viewing!

Science Museum, Chiyoda Tokyo
Open Source technologies for Ocean, Space, and Climate Change
What are the similarities and differences between ocean and space? Which is more important? What is open source technologies? What is citizen science? These are relatively new concepts to us in Hong Kong but these are the trends that the world is moving towards to.
“The ocean is a responsive environment: the elixir of life, the amulet of space. We interact with space in an age of liquid realities populated by celestial bodies, interactive technologies, ecologies and embodied individuals seeking transcendence. Orbital perspectives, and space technologies, bring us back down to Earth. They highlight our fragility in the cosmos, and the importance of oceans for planetary health. We too are a body of water, and citizens of space. We must become one with the ocean, to understand how to survive as a species of a living, respiring planet in the Solar System. Space looks after itself.”
— Dr Sarah Jane Pell
3 short presentations, followed by a discussion with the audience :
1.Jordan Mc Rae (30 minutes) about his innovative research in ocean and space technologies.
2. Dr Sarah Jane Pell (15 minutes) about her extreme environment performances, expeditions and art works.
3. Cesar Jung-Harada (7 minutes) about citizen science, open technologies for the oceans in the context of Hong Kong education.
4. Questions and discussion (45 minutes)
== Jordan McRae ==
MakerBay's first Maker-in-residence. Founder and President of OCTO 23 Technologies, an invention firm focused on the development Space, Ocean, and Climate Change technologies. Jordan began his engineering career with Lockheed Martin Space Systems as an Algorithms Engineer on a distributed space robotics platform. In 2008, Jordan moved to Hong Kong to establish an R&D facility for Humdinger Wind Energy and the research and design of the Windcell Panel, a modular non-turbine wind energy generator. In 2010 he co-founded B-Squares Electrics and led the development of B-Squares, a modular electronic systems, which went on to be one of Kickstarter's top 10 funded projects that year.
Inspired by inventors such as Jacques Cousteau, Leonardo De Vinci, Nicolas Tesla, etc. Jordan is continuously intrigued by the convergence of invention, engineering, art, and philosophy. OCTO23 is currently focused on the development of the Ultrascope, an Open Source Automated Robotic Observatory (ARO), and OCTOtalk a smart diving mask for underwater communications and ocean conservation.
Jordan received his B.S. at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and his M.S. at Stanford University, both in the field of Aeroanutical/Astronautical Engineering with a focus in Robotics. More about Jordan in an interview.

The wonders of CERN
CERN's Long Shutdown 1 (LS1), which began in February 2013, has meant large-scale work to modernize the infrastructure and prepare the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) for operation at higher energy. LS1 has also been a great opportunity to film underground locations that will not be accessible when the LHC restarts in spring 2015.
CERN’s Visual Media Office is currently recording footage in 4k resolution for the archive, in preparation for future needs of the Media. By clicking on the cog icon on the bottom right of the video you can select to view this film in 4k.
CERN provides an extensive library of footage free to use for documentary producers, TV and press.
