Alchimie de Courvoisier
An intricate, miniature paper diorama combining paper architecture and light projection to trace the history of Courvoisier and bring our alchemy to life.
Emmanuel Courvoisier, our founder, and the mayor of Bercy, Louis Gallois' reputation grew quickly amongst brandy connoisseurs, so much so that their warehouses in Bercy were honoured with a visit from the Emperor himself, Napoleon Bonaparte.
Since then, having moved to Jarnac, we've nurtured close relationships with over 1000 wine growers, who harvest our grapes in October when they're at their ripest and juiciest.
Our coopers use only the heartwood and sapwood for Courvoisier barrels, expertly splitting the oak into long strips before sawing by eye into exact stave lengths.
We insist on using traditional 25 hectolitre Alambic Charentais copper pot stills, and we also double distil to capture the aromatic soul of our fermented wine.
Cognac is a living, breathing product and we take great care during the ageing process to safeguard the natural interaction of eaux-de-vie and oak that gives our cognac its rich colour and complex bouquet.
It's the job of Patrice Pinet, our expert Master Blender, to create a harmonious blend year after year: a true lifetime's work of passion and artistry.
For over two centuries, our cognac alchemy has been a fascination and enduring passion; a magical fusion of art and science, where age-old traditions combine with unique innovations to produce a range of cognacs renowned and enjoyed the world over.
Alchimie de Courvoisier was commissioned by experience-led creative agency, White Label, and created by award-winning artistic duo, Davy & Kristin McGuire.

Cognac Review: Courvoisier VSOP
Courvoisier VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale)
VSOP is a designation meaning a blend of ingredient brandies having a minimum age of 4 years in a cask.
If you didn't know, Cognac is a type of brandy. White wine, primarily (90%) ungni blanc grape is use. It is thin, acidic and very dry. Terrible drinking wine, but once distilled twice, is a great eau de vie for aging in French oak to make a great cognac.
Courvoisier VSOP is a blend of eau de vie having ages of 8 to ten years.
Nose
Carmelized brown sugar, Creme Brûlée's, rich currants, worn and cracked brown leather couch.
Palate
Polished mahogany, vanilla bean, coffee with cream, peanut brittle, warm peanuts, old burnished wood.
Finish
Marashino cherry, hazelnuts, mint leaves and spiced oak.
General Impressions
Good entry level VSOP. Balanced and no obvious flaws. Not complex though. If you want complexity you have to go to XO.

L'Atelier de Courvoisier - The St. Helena
This December, Courvoisier was proud to grant an unprecedented insight into our renowned Paradis ageing cellar, housed in Château Courvoisier, Jarnac, and re-imagined exclusively for luxury London shopping destination, Harrods. The L'Atelier de Courvoisier saw guests warmly welcomed with a bespoke cocktail -- the St. Helena -- designed by Nathan Merriman of The Club at The Ivy.
The cocktail was created to reflect our rich heritage, spanning the French Revolution, Napoleon's exile and beyond, and to showcase our pioneering spirit, with innovative use of premium ingredients and aromatic flavour combinations.

Rebecca Asseline Courvoisier XO Tasting
As part of L'Atelier de Courvoisier, UK Brand Ambassador, Rebecca Asseline, took guests through a sensory tasting of our award-winning Courvoisier XO, revealing the perfect balance of intense flavours that have been patiently evolved and nurtured for at least two decades.
Le Dernier Mot - Courvoisier 'The Toast of Paris' Competition 2018
For this cocktail, I took inspiration from The Last Word, a classic beloved by bartenders the world over. I replaced the gin with Courvoisier VSOP, and tweaked the ratios to make sure the Cognac really shines through. The addition of a whole egg rounds the cocktail out, and gives it a lovely, thick, creamy mouthfeel, which contrasts nicely with the sharp taste of the drink.

20ml Green Chartreuse
25ml Lime Juice

Courvoisier VSOP Cognac | History | Drinks Network
Legend has it that in 1811 Napoleon Bonaparte visited the Courvoisier warehouses run by Emmanuel Courvoisier and his associate Louis Gallois. Later, the French leader took several barrels of the cognac with him to St. Helena, and the English officers on his ship enjoyed it so much they nicknamed Courvoisier “The Cognac of Napoleon.”
Another Napoleon, Napoleon III, reinforced Courvoisier’s reputation as the finest cognac available by granting Courvoisier Cognac the title of Official Supplier to the Imperial Court in 1869.
Currently, Courvoisier is one of the leading cognac houses in the world and continues to excel in the spirits category with its renowned blends, including VS, VSOP, Exclusif, Napoleon, XO, Initiale Extra, Millennium, Courvoisier Succession J.S., L'Essence de Courvoisier, Courvoisier Rosé and L'Esprit de Courvoisier. =================
