Cousin island seychelles

The island is covered with indigeous woodland. This video shows the landscape, flora and fauna
Cousin, Curieuse and St. Pierre Islands / Seychelles
Cousin Island is a small (34 ha) granitic island of the Seychelles, lying 2 km (1.2 mi) west of Praslin.[1] It is a nature reserve protected under Seychelles law as a Special Reserve. It is managed by Nature Seychelles, a national nonprofit organization and Partner of BirdLife International, by which it has been identified as an Important Bird Area.
Curieuse Island is a small granitic island 1.13 sq mi (2.9 km2) in the Seychelles close to the north coast of the island of Praslin. Curieuse is notable for its bare red earth intermingled with the unique coco de mer palms, one of the cultural icons of the Seychelles, only growing on the two neighboring islands.
Ile St. Pierre is an uninhabited island of the Seychelles. It is located north of the island of Praslin in the east of Curieuse Island on the edge of the Curieuse Marine National Park. The distance from the island to Pointe Zanguilles on Praslin is 1.5 km. The waters around Île St. Pierre are a firm favourite with swimmers, snorkellers and yachtsmen for whom the island provides the ideal backdrop to a spectacular Seychelles sunset. One of several islands in the bay of Côte d'Or on Praslin, this tiny islet with its granite profile interspersed with some Coconut palms has come, over the years, to represent the quintessential Seychelles island, appearing in numerous advertisement campaigns, posters and evocative photographs.

Cousin Island: A Conservation Success Story
This video by tells the conservation success story of Cousin Island Special Reserve, a former coconut enterprise now turned nature reserve in the Seychelles. Managed by local NGO and BirdLife Partner, Nature Seychelles, Cousin lies approximately 2 km from Praslin Island, Seychelles. The island became the World's first internationally-owned reserve in 1968 when it was purchased by the International Council for the Protection of Birds (now Birdlife International) to save the last remaining population of the Seychelles warbler. Cousin at the time had been cleared of its native vegetation and planted wall to wall with coconuts. Pigs, chickens and cattle had been introduced. Soon after its purchase, the Seychelles Government designated the island as a Nature Reserve under the Wild Animals and Birds Protection Act. In 1975, Cousin was designated a Special Reserve. This included the marine area up to 400m beyond the High Water Mark. Today, Cousin Island is a bird sanctuary; home to many endemic land birds and an important breeding site for seabirds. It is the most important rookery for Hawksbill turtles in the Western Indian Ocean. The island has been successfully restored to its natural vegetation and has received international awards for its conservation efforts and eco-tourism initiatives.

Cousin Island: A conservation success story
Cousin Island used to be a coconut plantation with little native habitat remaining. BirdLife International bought the island to save the endemic Seychelles warbler, which became a flagship species for habitat restoration. Watch this video by Nature Seychelles. Isle Aride, Seychelles, Indian Ocean
Aride Island - Seychelles
This is the most northerly of the granitic Seychelles islands and was bought by the Royal Society for Nature Conservation in 1973. It is second only to Aldabra in importance as a nature reserve in Seychelles. On Aride there are more breeding species of sea birds than on any other island in the region, together with the only breeding sites in the granitic islands for red-tailed tropicbirds, roseate terns and the world's only sooty tern colony in tall woodland. The island's warden will guide you to the breathtaking clifftops, where hundreds of huge frigatebirds soar above the turquoise sea. If you are lucky, you will glimpse hawksbill turtles and dolphins in the waters below. Seychelles warblers, 29 of which were introduced from Cousin in September 1988, have multiplied to more than two thousand. It is also a botanical treasure house, being the world's only site for the beautiful Wright's Gardenia, or bwa sitron, and a species of 'peponium' that might also be endemic to the island.
The world's largest colony of lesser noddies and possibly white-tailed tropicbirds further enhance the island's reputation as the sea-bird citadel of the Indian Ocean. Recently, it become a residence for the endangered Seychelles magpie-robin and the Seychelles fody, which are also found on Cousin, Cousine and Frégate.
Cousin Island - 50 years of conservation success
A land and sea Special Reserve, Cousin is 29 ha and extends 400 metres offshore to protect the fringing reefs.
This granitic island became a nature reserve when it was bought by the International Council for Bird Preservation (now BirdLife International) in 1968 to protect the last tiny population of the Seychelles warbler (Acrocephalus seychellensis). It was transformed from an ecologically impoverished plantation into a thriving indigenous forest that benefits other species.
