They come primarily because Istria is a close destination. Secondly, Istria offers quality, quality for the price. The average price in the peak of the season for the four star high quality camp, with some international branding, with good ratings such as superplatz from the ADAC, is 34 euros ($43 US Dollars).

In Istria out of 40 camps, 15 of them are having four stars. In the whole of Croatia there are only 20 four stars camps. That means that the most advanced Croatian region has made the critical mass of good quality already.

LEAD IN
Croatia's Istrian peninsula could be described as the perfect camping holiday destination.
Well connected to the rest of mainland Europe by road it boasts 100,000 camping pitches.
No wonder many Europeans pack their bucket and spade, hitch up the caravan and return here year after year.

Amazing photographs from Lopar are spreading across the Internet, showing cyclists starting their conquest of the Mitas 4 Islands race’s second stage, held on the island of Rab, from a ferry. This is one of the race’s special qualities encountered by Armando Esteves, an International Cycling Union commissaire, who is also referred to as the father of mountain biking in Portugal, his homeland.
“Starting from a ship is unique in the world! I’ve been an international commissaire for fifteen years, but I’ve never seen such a start. Mitas 4 Islands has an impressive number of participants from across the globe and is excellently organised. The most important thing about officiating in this sport is safety – of contestants and organisers, as well as spectators. I also consider sporting pleasure and teamwork very important,” Armando Esteves pointed out.
All of this was displayed by Team Mitas CZE, who now have two victories under their belt – in the prologue and second stage.
“We’ve had a very hard day. Today’s conditions are similar to last year’s, maybe it was easier in the beginning, because it wasn’t raining, but later, when it started to rain, it was very hard. This is my third time competing in the Mitas 4 Islands race. Two years ago, our team was in the second place overall, we won last year, and we’ll see what happens this year. The result is uncertain because the competition is stiff, and luck also plays a big part in it,” said Filip Adel. His teammate Jan Škarnitzl, who is participating in the race for the first time this year, backs his words up. Sand and water caused him braking trouble on a downward slope in the stage’s final stretch, but he reached the end line successfully.
Winners of the women’s category and the Mix, Master and Grand Master categories are Focus Rapiro Racing - KMC, Keindl Sport, Orbea Factory Team and Keindl Sport - Bike & Ski.
Qatar’s national team, who have encountered the Kvarner islands’ rugged nature for the first time, fell behind them quite a bit.
“This is something absolutely different for Qatari cyclists. They’re not used to such natural conditions, environment, mountains, rocks, stones… All of this is completely new to them! Therefore, it’s much more difficult for them than it is for other riders, who have been cycling under such conditions since childhood. I’ve decided to bring them to a place where they can experience true mountain biking,” said Szymon Wasiak, head manager of Qatar’s national cycling team. He also revealed he intends to bring the team members to the same place again next year in order to gauge their progress.
Most contestants consider the race’s Rab stage to be the most exciting. It consists of a series of varied shorter sections. After starting from the ferry, the cyclists pass over rocky trails, through jungles and deserts, and the end line is on the beautiful Lopar beach, which the rain turns into a large muddy patch.

LEAD IN:
Since the end of the war in the Balkans, the Croatian housing market has been enjoying a property boom.
But the current global financial crisis has started to make its mark.
A recent study by the Croatian Central Bank shows prices that increased by 85.9% over the last 10 years have reached their peak and are heading for a slump.
STORYLINE:
The adriatic coastal city of Dubrovnik has been a relatively cheap destination for real estate buyers in the past ten years.
International buyers were attracted to house prices often as much as five times lower than in similar European towns.
According to Frano Brzic, President of the County Association of the Real Estate Agents, in 2007 the majority of international buyers in Dubrovnik were English and Irish. This year he says most buyers are from Russia, France and Italy.
Villas by the sea and properties in the old medieval town of UNESCO-protected Dubrovnik, were snapped up, fuelling investor interest, raising demand and in turn raising prices.
In September 2007 the average cost of a house in the Adriatic region was 1,739 Euro / 2,419.70 USD per square metre (m2). The average flat cost 1,985 Euro / 2,761.99 USD per m2.
Real Estate Agents, Republic of Croatia).
There are several similar properties in the Old Town that are currently on the market - all of similar sizes.

Gastarbeiter and addict | Srećko Vukov | TEDxZagreb
Civilizational progress allows us to live easier and longer, but at the same time, it moves us away from what we came from — nature. Srećko Vukov is the brainchild of Via Adriatica, promoter of natural beauties of the Republic of Croatia and active stay in nature. In his speech, he introduces us to his relationship with nature and the reasons why he thinks everyone should give nature a chance. I was born and live in Zagreb. I am a lover of active stay in nature and the natural beauty of Croatia. Through the association I founded, I have led about 260 cycling, kayaking and hiking trips, and through outdoor photography I actively promote the natural beauty of Croatia and the benefits of an active stay in nature. Rowing I met a dozen Croatian rivers, hiked all the Croatian mountains, and cycled twice to the sea in 1999, from Zagreb through Gorski Kotar to the islands of Krk, Cres and Lošinj to Zadar, to Šibenik, and in 2000 from Zagreb to Dubrovnik and more to Šibenik. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at

Bike tour of Krk island in Croatia 2019
#141 - Croatia, Istria peninsula - From Rovinj to Pula Arena (08/2015)
Rovinj is arguably the most popular tourist summer destination of Istria, while Pula is the capital and the largest city of the peninsula, best known for its many Roman artifacts. As the distance is quite short, about 35 km, I tried connecting the two back in 2011, but had to give up due to bad timing. But in 2015, it finally happened! But is it really as simple as those 35 km imply? Well, it depends on how you want to ride and what you want to see.
I wanted to do a lot of offroading inside and outside of Rovinj. So, after all the exploration and a hurry in Pula itself, having to give up on Medulin and Premantura areas, I returned to Rovinj with exactly 100 km behind me.
Although this entire part of Istria lacks any real climbs and excitement, it makes up for it with beautiful towns and coastline and Pula proved to have a lot to offer. From the famous Arena amphitheatre and other Roman artifacts in the old city core, to the network of underground tunnels and forts on hills. Sadly, I didn't manage to get to the forts, but you will be able to enjoy much of the best known spots of Pula. And then, there's Fažana, an incredible tiny town/village just outside Pula, mostly popular for boat excursions to Brijuni islands (and NP). No bikes allowed on those boats, I'm afraid.
And although I did get a bit lost due to bad online maps and gps and did almost lose my GoPro camera and everything on it, this was a brilliant ride and one I would gladly repeat. Perhaps in more days than one. The only problem are local bike path signs which could really use some more info, like distance and the place they are taking you to.
My special greeting goes to people who patiently answer even the seemingly stupid questions we tourists may have. We can be confused or just tired and frustrated and you just never know whether a Pula visitor actually parked his car in Rovinj. :)
Filmed in August 2015.

Bike Ride through Matewan (Mine Wars Documentary)
I decided to tape this Bike Ride through Matewan and surrounding area, and I also did a short Documentary of the History of the Battle of Matewan (Relating to the Mine War= Shootout of the Balwin Felts agents for the Stone Mountain Coal Company and the United Mine Workers and Sid Hatfield the Chief of Police of Matewan. Battle occurred in May of 1920. When Baldwin Felts Agents/ Guards from Bluefield came to the Town of Matewan to Evict Union Miners Families from the Company Owned Houses located in the Town of Matewan. This was the Flashpoint of the battles to come, and Matewan's Mayor Cable Testerman died from gunshots among many others of the Guards company in this fight. Later Sid Hatfield was Gunned Down by Baldwin Felts Guards when he arrived at the Court House at Welch Wv. This act led to the Battle of Blair Mountain when it only stopped when the National Guard was sent in to stop the March of the Union Miners from Charleston toward Logan and Mingo Counties for a major fight. It was called the Largest insurrection since the Civil War.
