Dacheon Beach Chuseok Holiday Trip (Boryeong, South Korea)
This year during Chuseok (aka Korean Thanksgiving) I decided to head to Dacheon beach in Boryeong to meet up with some friends and hangout for the day. The weather was still pretty hot, so going to the beach was definitely a nice time and it was WAY less crowded than Busan.

Foreigners Wrestling at the Boryeong Mud Festival (보령머드축제), Daecheon Beach, Korea
This travel video captures a circle pit of drunk foreigners wrestling on Daecheon beach during the Boryeong Mud Festival located in Boryeong, South Korea. A trip to Boryeong for the Mud Festival is an event that attracts people from both near and afar. Popular with both foreigners and Koreans, you'll meet people who have came to Korea specifically for the event, foreign teachers based in Korea, US military and other expats. Aside from just beach time, muddy adventure sports and listening to live music, you'll notice people engaging in a host of other activities.

One event I stumbled upon randomly was a wrestling match taking place between a group of foreigners who formed a large circle.
It appeared most of the participants were drunk; however the wrestling was good nurtured with plenty of smiles, laughing and cheering from all those involved or just watching.
Prior to each match the two combatants would stare each other down and perform a ridiculous 'intimidation routine' before finally lunging at one another.
It appeared many in the group were friends; plenty attention in particular was given towards a guy named Drew who was wrestling another guy wearing a purple headband.
One of the most random things during the matches was this guy carrying a retro school boombox, who was just making his way around the circle pit; meanwhile, some guy without a t-shirt on, apparently named Andrew, was following his every move and dancing around him by shaking his body back and forth. It's was kind of funny but even more parts strange.
Andrew also participated in the wrestling matches losing both times. On one particular clip you'll notice he looks so stunned/drunk that he forgets to move when the match begins.
Overall, it was a bunch of sweaty guys having fun, wrestling, swearing, dancing, and cheering; I was there like a fly on the wall capturing it all with my camera and camcorder.

The Boryeong Mud Festival is an annual festival which takes place during the summer in Boryeong, a town around 200 km south of Seoul, South Korea. The first Mud Festival was staged in 1998 and, by 2007, the festival attracted 2.2 million visitors to Boryeong.[1]
The mud is taken from the Boryeong mud flats, and trucked to the Daecheon beach area, where it is used as the centrepiece of the 'Mud Experience Land'.[2] The mud is considered rich in minerals and used to manufacture cosmetics. The festival was originally conceived as a marketing vehicle for Boryeong mud cosmetics.[3]
Although the festival takes place over a period of around two weeks, it is most famous for its final weekend, which is popular with Korea's western population. The final weekend of the festival usually falls on the second weekend in July.
History of the Festival
The festival has become popular with both Koreans and western tourists, as well as American Military personnel stationed in the country, and foreign English teachers working in Korea.
For the period of the festival several large attractions are erected in the seafront area of Daecheon. These include a mud pool, mud slides, mud prison and mud skiing competitions. Colored mud is also produced for body painting. A large stage is erected on the beach, which is used for live music, competitions and various other visual attractions.:

[Smart A+] 2018 Boryeong Mud Festival in full swing on Daecheon Beach
제21회 보령머드축제 대천해변서 개막
One of Korea's biggest and best-loved summer festivals has kicked off.
The Boryeong Mud Festival burst into life on Friday.... and our reporter Kan Hyeong-woo is at Daecheon Beach in Chungcheongnam-do Province to give us a taste of the fun.
Marking its 21st edition this year, the Boryeong Mud Festival is one of the most popular events on the calendar for international visitors and expats in South Korea.
Last year, organizers say a staggering five-point-six million people came to the event. And six-hundred twenty-thousand of them --- well over ten percent -- were foreigners.
Daecheon Beach, where the event is taking place, offers a number of special experiences for everyone,… ranging from mud wrestling to mud slides and mud painting.
It's amazing, yeah. I think the best thing is you got every kind of people together. You've got families, got Korean people, foreign people from every country in the world. And we are just all together.. having a good time.
This year's event has around 70 different programs,... including a mud flash mob and K-pop concerts.
The mud festival is amazing. It's people from all over the world. It's mud, music....Boryeong Mud Festival is awesome
First launched in 1998, the Boryeong Mud Festival was started to promote the area's mud… which is packed full of minerals with medical and cosmetic qualities,.. but what started out small has grown bigger and bigger every year.
If you really want to completely cake yourself in mud,... you can take turns pushing your friends and family into the giant mud bath.
This year's Boryeong Mud Festival runs through Sunday July 22nd. So...for anyone who's interested,... there is still plenty of time left to get muddy and put some extra glow on their skin.

BORYEONG MUD FESTIVAL AT DAECHEON BEACH SOUTH KOREA
EARL -- Mudfest 2008, Daecheon Beach, Boryeong, Korea

Boryeong Mud Festival Random Events around Daecheon Beach, South Korea (보령머드축제)
This travel video captures some random events that took place during the 2012 Boryeong Mud Festival in Daecheon Beach, South Korea. There was a religious ceremony happening just a few meters away from a section where foreigners and Korean were half naked getting drunk and smoking. It provided for quite the contrast.

Although the festival takes place over a period of around two weeks, it is most famous for its final weekend, which is popular with Korea's western population. The final weekend of the festival usually falls on the second weekend in July.
History of the Festival
In 1996 a range of cosmetics was produced using mud from the Boryeong mud flats. The cosmetics were said to be full of minerals, bentonites, and germaniums, all of which occur naturally in the mud from the area.
In order to promote these cosmetics, the Boryeong Mud Festival was conceived. Through this festival, it was hoped people would learn more about the mud and the cosmetics. The festival has become popular with both Koreans and western tourists, as well as American Military personnel stationed in the country, and foreign English teachers working in Korea.
The festival attracted some controversy in 2009 when a group of school children attending the festival developed skin rashes after contact with the mud.[4]
Attractions

Colored mud is also produced for body painting. A large stage is erected on the beach, which is used for live music, competitions and various other visual attractions.
A small market runs along the seafront selling cosmetics made using the mud from Boryeong. Various health and beauty clinics offer massages, acupuncture and other treatments utilising the medicinal qualities of the mud. The festival is closed with a large firework display:
