The Brooklyn Of Tokyo, Daikanyama! // Solo Travel Japan Vlog #11
In today's Japan vlog, I head to the upmarket district of Daikanyama - known as the 'Brooklyn of Tokyo'!
I may not have been to Brooklyn before, but the upmarket, effortlessly cool vibe of Daikanyama definitely transported me there - with a tonne of cute boutiques and backstreets, and the most gorgeous bookstore I've ever seen, if you have a spare day in Tokyo and want a relaxing district to explore, look no further!
But before I headed there, I had to make a stop at a dentist in Aoyama - you never expect to do something as mundane as go to the DENTIST while you're on holiday in Tokyo, but it was sooo lucky that I was able to find an english-speaking clinic!
Hope you guys enjoy this vlog!

Daikanyama T-Site, Stylish Commercial Complex by Tsutaya [iPhone 4S/HD]
Tsutaya, the largest music and video rental chain in Japan, was the first company which implemented the idea of selling books at video rental stores.
They opened 'Daikanyama T-Site' in the Daikanyama of Tokyo, a stylish commercial complex centering on its large bookstore. You can browse books sitting on a chair or a sofa before buying them at the store.
The facility has various stores: restaurants, cafes, a clinic, a toy store, a dog salon, a camera store, an electric power-assisted bike store, and so on. It would be a good idea to enjoy shopping after browsing and buying books or read a book you bought while drinking good coffee at a cafe.

Don’t forget to visit Daikanyama T-site when you come to Tokyo. This is the place where typical Japanese hang out. What’s more you can find a big collection of Japanese books, magazines, and music. You will get to know real cool japan.
How to get to daikanyama from shibuya station.
Taking Tokyu-toyoko line, bound for Yokohama, Motomachi, Chuka-gai.
Do not take express. It won’t stop at Daikanyama station.
Get a local train (Kakueki-teisha,各駅停車)
Daikanyama T-site (English)

Adeyto LIVE in DAIKANYAMA the Little BROOKLYN of TOKYO posh & hip Japan
Daikanyama, often referred to as “the Brooklyn of the Japanese capital,” is one of those places; a hidden gem where modernity and comfort combine the perfect harmony. A popular weekend destination for locals, this area’s relaxed vibe, tree-lined pedestrian-only streets and trendy eateries make it a suburban oasis located just a 15-minute walk from the world’s busiest intersection, the SHIBUYA CROSSING. Today we couldn’t visit the Japanese traditional house Kyu Asakura because they don’t want to be introduced to YouTube and don’t allow any photos or videos but instead we saw enough other houses so no big deal! We saw all the main attractions of Daikanyama: La Fuente, T Site, Ivy Place, Okra, Hillside Terrace, many CUTE DOGS all over the place and cute dog fashion! And we bought strange Black Croissant that I had no time to eat!

Daikanyama has attractive shops such as cafes and restaurants with good atmosphere, shops and beauty salons.
Tsutaya bookstore is a symbolic store in Daikanyama. It is the core of the complex commercial facility “T-SITE”, which proposes a richer life centered on content such as books, movies, and music. There is a lot of nature in the site, and there are cafes, event spaces and pet shops.

My Tokyo Trip(6) – NO Shinjuku or Harajuku anymore! Now is Daikanyama and Shimokitazawa
This is the last articles of my Tokyo trip series. Although I am a person to be liberty to do anything even not plan a trip, as a hipster of the last generation, Daikanyama in Tokyo is a well-known name for me. I must take some time to visit Daikanyama!
Daikanyama is only one train station away from Shibuya. But comparing with Shibuya, Daikanyama is more peaceful. Daikanyama is a high grade residential district of Tokyo. The hillside Terrace, was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize which is the highest honor in the architecture industry. Daikanyama Attacks a lot of trendy boutiques, restaurants and cafes, creating a noble environment. Daikanyama is the newest trend spot of Tokyo, and also the love of hipster.
Because of the schedule, it’s already night when we arrived Daikanyama. Many shops had closed. But from the shops still opening, I can see the designing talent of Japanese. Their design is really really great! I heard that there is already design lecture in the primary school of Japan. I didn’t it’s true or not, but they really have the strong sense of design.
Going through the dark road, we arrived the T-site, the hot spot of Daikanyama. T-site is a complex area designed by TSUTAYA, an old book store brand of Japan. Today, T-site is already the landmark of Daikanyama.
I found the Kitamura Camera shop. It is founded and designed by famous designer Kanji Ueki, specializing in classic camera like the LEICA, MiNT InstantFlex. It’s really the best place for photographer! But the cameras are really very expensive. I finally bought a QuickSnap of FUJIFILM as a souvenir.
The next station was the TSUTAYA. It is one of the “20 most beautiful bookstore in the world”. Taking the concert of a library in the forest”, the bookstore is surrounded the trees and woods. There were books, designing stuffs, CD, movie and restaurants in the bookstore, with the beauty of design. I took totally one hour, just to visit the stationary department of the bookstore! Unfortunately photo was not allowed so I couldn’t take photos. Finally I bought some bookmarks.
I didn’t know Shimokitazawa before but from the chitchat with Nicolemoker, she put Shimokitazawa as the 1st of her recommendation. So after visiting Kamakura in the last day of my trip, I squeezed some times to visit Shimokitazawa.
Coming out from the train station, I was shocked! It’s my favorite! It’s the style of cintage!
Shimokitazawa gives us an image of underground, subculture, messy and young people. As there are lots of University beside, Shimokitazawa becomes a place for young people. Recently many vintage boutique moved to Shimokitazawa, making Shimokitazawa a place for Hipster. Frankly speaker, I found the dressing style of young people in Shimokitazawa is much more trendy then those in Shibuya.
That’s blow again that I arrived Shimokitazawa at 11am. Many boutiques and restaurants still not opened. I walked along the street. Although lot of shops were still closed, I could still found the personality and individuality of each shop. It is heard many super stars and artists of Japan also go to Shimokitazawa for shopping. I suddenly feel lucky I came so early, or I would spend a lot here…
Daikanyama and Shimokitazawa are the newest trendy spot of Tokyo. It’s much more worthy than Shinjuku, Shibuya or Ginza to visit.
Daikanyama - Tokyo - 代官山 - 4K Ultra HD
By far our favorite shopping spot in Tokyo, Daikanyama is also one of the trendiest spot that many tourists ignore when visiting Japan. With respect to Omotesando, Daikanyama offers a far better shopping experience with trendier shops and restaurants than the mythical and usually overcrowded Japanese avenue.
Granted Daikanyama may look like a maze that requires you to be extra curious to find what you are looking for, but it is part of the charm of the place. Whether you are a fan of vintage clothing or the latest brands, you will no doubt find it there!
Finally do not forget about Daikanyama’s wide selection of restaurants and bars that are worth checking out. If you do have the chance to visit this place here you are our recommendations :
- Le Petit Bedon (French)
- Caffè Michelangelo (Italian)
- Ivy Place (International)
