Yukon Portal - Heritage and Culture
Canada's Yukon may be home to twice as many moose than people, but the 35,000 enterprising and creative folks who live here are exceptionally talented. Yukoners celebrate a varied history and a dynamic arts culture, and our vast northern landscapes figure prominently in art and stories. The culture of Yukon's First Nations people evolved over millennia into the rich tapestry of dialects, arts, crafts, cuisines, and practices that we still enjoy today. From festivals to galleries to dozens of museums, historic sites, and interpretive and cultural centres, Yukon's story is brought to life for visitors in so many ways.

The name Han is a shortening of Hankutchin, which is the Gwich'in word hangʷičʼin for the Han literally meaning people of the river. The Han Singers performed at the Economic Development Conference which took place in October of 2009 at the Osoyoos Indian Band in central British Columbia.

TH Hän Language - Tr'ochëk
Fun Friday fact: tr’o means rock. For hundreds of years, Tr’ochëk was a bustling fishing camp where Hän people used hammerstone rocks found at the mouth of the Klondike to fish. After many transformations—including a gold rush log cabin settlement, an infamous red light district, and a placer mine—it is once again a seasonal fish camp used by Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in and protected by TH’s Final Agreement.
Mähsi cho to Elder Angie Joseph-Rear and the Heritage department for teaching us how to speak Hän.
