DARTMOUTH AND THIS ENGLAND
Dartmouth is a historic town in South Devon, England. A tourist destination on the western banks of the River Dart, a long tidal ria navigable for the 12 miles to Totnes. It’s in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, (AONB). Dartmouth was of strategic importance as a deep water port in the days of Sailing Ships. From here the Crusaders departed in 1147 and 1190. Dartmouth has been a “home” for the Royal Navy from the reign of King Edward 3rd. The Royal Naval College where all Royal Navy Officers are trained is still here. To prevent attacks from the sea the estuary of the River Dart was closed every night by a great chain stretched between Dartmouth Castle and Kingswear Castle on the opposite bank – so it was during World War 2! In 1373 Chaucer visited in his “Canterbury Tales”. In 1620 The Pilgrim Fathers sailed in here to the town’s Bayard’s Cove en route to America – the rest is history! Dartmouth contains many medieval streetscapes and historic buildings. The Royal Castle Hotel 1639. The Cherub Pub 1380. Dartmouth featured in the defeat of the Spanish Armada. “Greenway” the home of Sir Francis Drake - in the 20th. Century became the home of Novelist Dame Agatha Christie.

DOLPHIN (FILM 1) SEEN HERE IN THE RIVER DART DARTMOUTH UK FEB 19th 2012
Dolphins are marine mammals closely related to whales and porpoises. There are almost forty species of dolphin in 17 genera. They vary in size from 1.2 m (4 ft) and 40 kg (90 lb) (Maui's dolphin), up to 9.5 m (30 ft) and 10 tonnes (9.8 long tons; 11 short tons) (the orca or killer whale). They are found worldwide, mostly in the shallower seas of the continental shelves, and are carnivores, mostly eating fish and squid. The family Delphinidae is the largest in the Cetacean order, and evolved relatively recently, about ten million years ago, during the Miocene. Dolphins are among the most intelligent animals, and their often friendly appearance and seemingly playful attitude have made them popular in human culture

Dartmouth Castle,Dartmouth, Devon.
Improved new version of Dartmouth Castle)
One of the most beautifully located fortresses in England. For over 600 years Dartmouth Castle has guarded the narrow entrance to the Dart Estuary and the busy, vibrant port of Dartmouth. It offers stunning views of the estuary and out to sea and offers a great family day out, whatever the weather.
This fascinating complex of defences was begun in 1388 by John Hawley, privateering Mayor of Dartmouth and the prototype of the flamboyant 'Shipman' in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. About a century later the townsmen added the imposing and well-preserved 'gun tower', probably the very first fortification in Britain purpose-built to mount 'ship-sinking' heavy cannon. Climb to the top for breathtaking views across the estuary and see how it could be blocked in wartime by a heavy chain.
Unusually incorporating the fine church of St Petrox, the castle saw action during the Civil War, and continued in service right up until the Second World War. Successive up-dating included the Victorian 'Old Battery' with its remounted heavy guns, guardrooms and maze of passages to explore. Here a dramatic film sequence recreates a Victorian gun-firing, and throughout the fortress displays retell the six centuries of castle history.
There is plenty to do inside the castle and if the weather is fine, you can make it a full day out with a river boat trip from the town quay up to the castle, landing you a minute's walk away from the castle entrance. After you have explored the castle, you can visit a riverside tea room for light lunches and snacks. Walkers will love the coastal and woodland walks around the castle where you can spot plenty of wildlife and birds.

The River Dart at Dartmouth Devon England
Kingswear Castle Paddle Steamer on the River Dart Dartmouth UK
The Kingswear Castle was built by Philip & Sons of Dartmouth in 1924 for the Great Western Railway for service on the River Dart, following sister ships Compton Castle and Totnes Castle, and was operated by the River Dart Steamboat Co. Her predecessor of the same name from 1904 is now a rotted and barely recognisable hulk in the River Dart, but the engines were re-used in the current steamboat.
Kingswear Castle was chartered to the United States Navy during World War II, and was used for carrying stores and personnel at Dartmouth. In 1965 Kingswear Castle was withdrawn from service and became the first purchase of the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society (PSPS) two years later. After various difficulties and a great deal of restoration work she was brought into service again in 1985, and is now operated by the Paddle Steamer Kingswear Castle Trust based at Chatham Historic Dockyard, Chatham, Kent, in association with the PSPS. The PSPS also has a subsidiary, Waverley Excursions, operating Waverley and Balmoral.
On 18 December 2012 she returned to the River Dart, under charter to the Dartmouth Steam Railway and Riverboat Company, to again run passenger trips around Dartmouth Harbour and up river to TotnesPlease Subscribe to my Channel thank you.+

Kingswear, Dartmouth and the River Dart by Drone 21st November 2017
A quick first drone flight over my home town of Kingswear - firstly flying to the end of Kingswear Creek, and then over the River Dart where you can see the ferries, Dartmouth Castle and the estuary of the River Dart.
In the UK, a Creek is an inlet off a tidal river and unfortunately today, we see Kingswear Creek, not at its most beautiful as the tide was out revealing the thick mud!
I'm pleased with the quality although the light was poor. It was filmed using a DJI Phantom 4 Pro.
