The ancient town of Daxu was built in 200 AD. The old old street stretches for 2 kilometers along the Lijiang River. The streets are covered with bluestone slabs. The two sides of the stone road are well-preserved old houses.
The ancient town of Daxu is on the east bank of the Li River, 23 kilometers from Guilin. Historical records, the ancient town was built in the early years of the Northern Song Dynasty, developed in the Ming Dynasty, flourished in the Republic of China, has a thousand years of history, far more than 600 years ago has become the four largest market towns in Guangxi Province.
大圩古镇始建于公元200年。古老的大圩老街顺着漓江绵延2公里长，不宽的街道上铺着青石板，石板路两边是保存完好的老房子。
大圩古镇在漓江东岸，父子岩东南，磨盘山北，距桂林23公里水程。史载，古镇始建于北宋初年，中兴于明清，鼎盛于民国时期，距今已有千年历史，远在600年前，大圩以其“大”，成为广西四大圩镇之最。

Das alte Dorf DAXU liegt am Li Fluss ungefähr 20km von Guilin. Es war der Endpunkt von der südlichen Seidenstraße. Xu bedeutet Markt. Ursprünglich wurde das Dorf vor ca. 2000 Jahren in der Qin Dynastie gebaut. Es wurde in der Ming Dynastie ein blühender Ort.
Man muss nicht lange anstehen bis man einen der Sessel zum YAOSHAN Berg bei Guilin besteigen kann. Der Blick ins Tal und auf die Zuckerberge ist beeindruckend. Bei einem Rundgang auf dem Gipfel sind neben der Aussicht auch einige Skulpturen aus der chinesischen Sagenwelt sowie in den Bäumen aufgehängte Gebetsfahnen zu bewundern..

Riding the Li River - Daxu Old Town
I was quite charmed by Daxu Old Town. Guilin probably looked a little like this, and Yangshuo certainly did less than twenty years ago. There's a two kilometre long blue stone paved old street with stunning courtyard homes - a few which are opened to tourists.
Early morning there are no tourists at all. By 10 a.m locals are setting up small stalls. The music in this video is all by the water colours painter who mostly paints the 1000 year old stone bridge that daxu is famous for.

On the lake stands a traditional building complex that is actually a roofed bridge, called the Wind-and-Rain Bridge. It is symbolic of the architecture of the Dong Minority people living in this area. The structure is made of wood, and was elegantly erected without even one nail. Through the bridge and along a path are larger Totem Pillars.
