De Mond Nature Reserve
The De Mond Nature Reserve at the Overberg Coast in South Africa - a paradise. I always come back here. a turquoise lagoon - within coastal fynbos and saltmarshes. Huge sand dunes and a wide, endless, white beach at the end of the lagoon, devoid of people.
Here I can breathe, calm down, run, listen to the sea, watch the sea birds.
I'll always come back here .........

Cape L'Agulhas - The Southern Most Tip of Africa
Check out Inspired Risk's first feature-length documentary:
L'Agulhas is the most southern coastal village and holiday resort in Africa, located within the Cape Agulhas Municipal area at the southernmost tip of the African mainland. It is situated next to the town of Struisbaai and about 30 kilometres south of the regional centre of Bredasdorp. The name Agulhas, Portuguese for needles, is said to have been given to the cape because the compass-needle was seen to point due north, that is, with no magnetic deviation. The Agulhas Bank is reputed to be the richest fishing area in the Southern Hemisphere. Some of the older residents and documents refer to the town as by its former name Cape Agulhas or Cape L'Agulhas or simply Agulhas which were the names that referred to this town before it was changed to L'Agulhas to avoid confusion when the Bredasdorp Municipality changed its name to The Cape Agulhas Municipality.
Tourist interests and activities include: A visit to the Lighthouse with a view from the tower and a walkway along the seafront to the new most southern African monument and a place where two oceans meet at the foot of Africa. A little further along the walkway is the shipwreck of Meisho Maru. Tourists also enjoy the local fyhbos plants, bird watching, hiking, swimming in the local tidal pools or a game of Jukskei on Saturday mornings. Other interests are visiting arts and craft shops, local wine sales, shops and restaurants or enjoy a meal at one of the best local fish restaurants in the area. L’Agulhas is a peaceful town and a ‘get away’ from busy city living.

In this video we reach our turning point - Arniston. We cannot go any further, as we have not been granted permission to enter Cape Nature, nor the military base which sits alongside Arniston.
Then we traverse the Brandfontein dunes in gale force winds. This episode has a bit of it all, so get ready to take a wild ride through some majestic scenery.
Cape Agulhas and the old Lighthouse
Cape Agulhas lies near Struisbaai at South Africa's Overberg Coast in the Western Cape province.
Portuguese seafarers named Africa's southern-most tip, Needle Cape because here, their compass needle pointed straight to the north with no deviation. An alternative opinion says that the name stems from the ragged and pointed reefs offshore.
As the southernmost tip of the continent, Cape Agulhas is also officially the point where the Atlantic and Indian Ocean meet. The waters near the coast are quite shallow and known as the best fishing grounds in South Africa. They are called the Agulhas Bank and it is less than 100 metres deep. Only after 250 kilometres seawards, does it go steeply down.
Cape Agulhas is rough and storm-beaten. The many shipwrecks here bear witness to the mighty storms in this region. A boardwalk leads - along the beach - through the Agulhas National Park to the beacon at the tip of the continent - where - officially - the Atlantic and the Indian Ocean meet.
The massive lighthouse, built in 1848, is worth a visit. The lighthouse is still today, despite the satellite navigation systems of modern vessels, fully operational. The mighty lights have a range of almost 60 kilometres. The tower can be visited.
Because the coastal Fynbos vegetation is extraordinarily rich and diverse, the Agulhas Plain was recently declared a National Park . More than 2000 different plants grow there, 100 of them are exclusive to this area.

Cape Agulhas Lighthouse Tour
Cape Agulhas Lighthouse & Museum tour
The lighthouse was built to aid the early explorers on their passage of the rough seas off Cape Agulhas. Seventy-one steps lead up to the top of the second oldest working lighthouse in southern Africa. Stone mined from the adjacent limestone quarry provided the raw materials for its construction. The building also houses a unique lighthouse museum.

Cape Point, Cape of Good Hope, South Africa
The Cape of Good Hope (Afrikaans: die Kaap van Goeie Hoop), Table Mountain National Park, is a rocky headland on the Atlantic coast of the Cape Peninsula, South Africa.
There is a misconception that the Cape of Good Hope is the southern tip of Africa, because it was once believed to be the dividing point between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. In fact, the southernmost point is Cape Agulhas, about 150 kilometres (90 mi) to the east-southeast. The currents of the two oceans meet at the point where the warm-water Agulhas current meets the cold water Benguela current and turns back on itself—a point that fluctuates between Cape Agulhas and Cape Point.
When following the western side of the African coastline from the equator, however, the Cape of Good Hope marks the point where a ship begins to travel more eastward than southward.
De Hoop Nature Reserve forms part of the world's smallest and most threatened plant kingdom - the Cape Floral Kingdom. Fynbos is the dominant vegetation group and is largely confined to nutrient-poor soils in the winter rainfall areas of the Western Cape.
The reserve has 86 mammal species. Most notable are the rare bontebok and Cape mountain zebra, as well as eland, grey rhebuck, baboon, yellow mongoose, caracal and the occasional leopard.
De Hoop Nature Reserve is situated east of Bredasdorp, approximately 260 km from Cape Town.
