Day 2: Madaba, Dead Sea, Jordan River, and Mt. Nebo!
Our second day in Jordan was spent visiting places that are biblically significant as well as the dead sea and the Christian Town Madaba. We went to the Jordan River, where Jesus was said to have been baptized by John the Baptist and where he met five of his disciples. We went to Mt. Nebo where the Bible says Moses had a glimpse of Canaan before dying. We also visited the dead sea where we wrapped ourselves in mud and tried becoming 'unsinkable' in its waters.

JORDAN DIARIES | Day 1 | Madaba - Mount Nebo - Dead Sea | Road Trip in Jordan
Jordan, an Arab nation on the east bank of the Jordan River, is defined by ancient monuments, nature reserves and seaside resorts. It’s home to the famed archaeological site of Petra, the Nabatean capital dating to around 300 B.C. Set in a narrow valley with tombs, temples and monuments carved into the surrounding pink sandstone cliffs, Petra earns its nickname, the Rose City.
Madaba is an ancient town in Jordan, southwest of the capital Amman. It’s known for its 6th-century mosaic map of the Holy Land in the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George. The Madaba Archaeological Park preserves the mosaic-rich Church of the Virgin Mary and artifacts from the Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Islamic eras. Northwest, the biblical hill of Mount Nebo overlooks the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea.
Mount Nebo is an elevated ridge in Jordan, approximately 710 metres above sea level, mentioned in the Hebrew Bible as the place where Moses was granted a view of the Promised Land. The view from the summit provides a panorama of the Holy Land and, to the north, a more limited one of the valley of the River Jordan.
The Dead Sea – bordering Israel, the West Bank and Jordan – is a salt lake whose banks are more than 400m below sea level, the lowest point on dry land. Its famously hypersaline water makes floating easy, and its mineral-rich black mud is used for therapeutic and cosmetic treatments at area resorts. The surrounding desert offers many oases and historic sites.

In Madaba we stayed at the Queen Ayola Hotel. It was very nice. Arranged tours and taxi's through them. Got the public mini bus to Petra though, this wasn't as cheap as we'd thought!
