IS THAT A PIAZZA IN NAPA VALLEY?!?! Daily Vlog Ep. 14
A Piazza has surfaced in the middle of Napa Valley, but whose could it be??
__________________________________________________________
VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
After 6 years and a lot of labor, the Del Dotto family has finally unveiled the latest in their winemaking and hospitality endeavors in Napa Valley. Dave Del Dotto raises the bar with this magnificent facility, outfitted with custom creations from Florence, beautiful gardens, a state of the art kitchen, and everything else you need to be transported from Napa Valley to Italy. With Chef Joshua Harris guiding the food team, I was taken on a culinary journey with my friends Charles and Darla through 5 courses and 5 wines. We sipped and ate outside on the patio that bears breathtaking vineyard views behind palatial columns. Piazza brings the food and wine experience to a new level here, offering options at varying price points, and allowing for vegetarian substitutions. Before we depart, Dave reminds us to check out Peacocks, chickens, and turkeys that put the icing on this beautiful cake.
ABOUT DEL DOTTO:
Located in the beautiful Napa Valley, Del Dotto Family Wineries & Caves focus on small production, premium wines. Dave Del Dotto has spent the past 25 years acquiring vineyards in some of the best American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) including Rutherford, Oakville, St. Helena, Howell Mountain, and Fort Ross-Seaview Sonoma Coast. Currently, our family produces cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, sangiovese and sauvignon blanc from our Napa Valley vineyards, as well as pinot noir, chardonnay and limited amounts of syrah, sauvignon blanc, sparkling grenache and mourvedre from our Cinghiale (wild boar) Vineyard in the King Ridge region of the Sonoma Coast.
ABOUT THE FOOD:
While the wines are our masterpiece, a great party must have world-class food that brings the wine to life. Our executive chef Joshua Schwartz, formerly of The French Laundry, Per Se, Bouchon and Bouley, has also been with our family for more than a decade and his inspired cuisine has become one of the focal points of our events.
From house-cured salumi and slow braised meats to vegetables from our garden and Grandma Dee’s handmade ravioli, Chef Joshua and the entire culinary team collaborate on a unique menu that embodies the season and pairs perfectly with the wines.

Napa & Sonoma Wine Country, California, USA - Drone
Napa & Sonoma Wine Country: Castello Di Amorosa, Ledson, Peju Province, Artesa, Sterling, Far Niente, Darioush, Clos Pegase, Robert Mondavi, Opus One, Domaine Carneros, Quixote, Ferrari-Carano, Del Dotto Estate, Chateau Montelena, Bale Grist Mill & Beringer
The Napa & Sonoma Valley is one of the most scenic and beautiful wine country to visit in Northern California. October is a perfect month because the fall colors turns to red & gold which showcases a more dramatic hills & valleys of the vineyards. Because Napa is very close to where we live, my wife and I often spend our weekends there because of its beauty and great places to eat. When I got my first drone, it is here where I practiced aerial videos and revisited the same places where we had gone before for photography. To this day, we are still discovering new wineries and restaurants.
There are over 430 Wineries in Napa Valley and over 380 wineries in Sonoma Valley. An astounding 95% of Napa Valley wineries are family-owned. It was The Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, known as the Judgment of Paris event which placed Napa Valley on the map worldwide. This blind, comparative tasting pitted Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay from California against the best wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy in a blind tasting. When the tasting was done, the judges had given top honors to Chateau Montelena Chardonnay and Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon. Napa Valley would never be the same and transformed Napa Valley into one of the premiere wine regions in the world.
Charles Krug is credited with establishing Napa Valley's first commercial winery in 1861: including Schramsberg (founded in 1862), Beringer (1876) and Inglenook (1879).
Aside for its wines (especially Cabernet Sauvignon wines), Napa Valley is also renowned for its fine and diverse cuisine. In fact, the region’s 100-plus restaurants have won more Michelin stars per capita than any other wine country in the world. Among the popular Michelin-starred restaurants include La Toque, The Restaurant at Auberge and The French Laundry.
Besides its arts & culture, you can go around the valley by biking or hiking, sip beer and spirits, see the Old Faithful geyser in Napa city of Calistoga, attend museums and music festivals, go shopping, and ride a hot-air balloon at sunrise.

In the heart of Napa Valley's Stags Leap District sits a rocky peak with a spectacular Mediterranean-style stone winery perched on top. That winery is the iconic Silverado Vineyards, named after the abandoned mining town at the north end of the Napa Valley. Silverado Vineyards is best known for its Cabernet Sauvignon, but Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and small batches of Zinfandel and Sangiovese are also grown on their six estate vineyards. Cardinale Winery is leading our exclusive VIP Tasting this year and will be featuring Vineyard Manager Mariano Navarro of La Jota Vineyards as our lead VIP Panel Host. Mariano has been tending vineyards for 24 years. His father, a Mexican immigrant who grew sweet potatoes and citrus fruit in San Diego County, introduced Mariano to vineyard work at the San Pasqual Winery the summer after he graduated from high school.
Mariano continued working at the San Pasqual Winery as cellar master and vineyard manager while he attended classes at the nearby community college. He went on to receive his B.S. in viticulture at Fresno State University in 1992, with an internship in Spain near Barcelona. Mariano furthered his viticultural career in California's Central Valley and then moved north to Sonoma County. In 1999, he was hired to manage a prestigious farmer's Knights Valley estate in Sonoma County and, later, his Napa County vineyards. In 2005, Mariano became vineyard manager for the La Jota estate.

Castello di Amorosa in Napa, California
Castello di Amorosa is a castle and a winery located near Calistoga, California. First opening its doors to the public in April 2007, the castle is the pet project of 4th generation vintner, Dario Sattui, who also owns and operates the V. Sattui Winery named after his great-grandfather who originally established a winery in San Francisco in 1885 after emigrating from Italy to California . [2][3]
The winery sits on property that was once part of an estate owned by Edward Turner Bale.[4]
The castle[edit]
Front entrance to the Castello di Amorosa Winery.
The castle interiors, which include 107 rooms on 8 levels above and below ground, cover approximately 121,000 square feet (11,200 m2). Key details and building techniques are architecturally faithful to the 12th and 13th century time period. Among many other features it has: a moat; a drawbridge; defensive towers; an interior courtyard; a torture chamber; a chapel/church; a knights' chamber; and a 72 by 30 feet (9.1 m) great hall with a 22-foot (6.7 m)-high coffered ceiling.
The torture chamber has an authentic 300-year-old iron maiden which Sattui states he bought for $13,000 in Pienza, Italy, a replica rack, prison chambers and other torture devices. [1] [5][6] The great hall features frescoes painted by two Italian artists who took about a year and a half to complete and showcases a 500-year-old fireplace.
Wine tasting in the cellar
The masonry, ironwork and woodwork was fashioned by hand using old world crafting techniques. Building materials included 8,000 tons of locally quarried stone, in addition to paving stones, terra cotta roofing tiles and some 850,000 bricks imported from Europe.[1][7][8] Extending into the hillside adjacent to the castle lies a labyrinth of caves some 900 feet (270 m) in length. Beneath the castle are a 2-acre (8,100 m2) barrel cellar and tasting rooms where visitors can sample the wines-all sold only at the Castle.
