MOUNT HOOD NATIONAL FOREST USA
Mount Hood and the Columbia Gorge symbolize the natural beauty of Oregon, yet much of these amazing landscapes remain unprotected. The mountain's high-elevation snowfields have received Wilderness designation, but the more biologically diverse lower flanks and surrounding ridges remain unprotected. Through cutting-edge technology and the efforts of more than 500 volunteers, Oregon Wild has identified unprotected natural areas in the Mount Hood National Forest over the past decade and sought federal Wilderness designation to preserve them.
In January 2009, Oregon Senators Ron Wyden (D) and Jeff Merkley (D) introduced legislation that would give Wilderness protection to 127,000 acres and designate 80 miles of rivers around Mount Hood and in the Columbia Gorge as Wild and Scenic Rivers.
The compromise plan includes the scenic canyons along White River, the biologically diverse forests of Fifteenmile Creek, the old-growth forest surrounding Roaring River and the beautiful whitewater of the East Fork of the Hood River.
The Lewis and Clark Mount Hood Wilderness is an important step toward preserving the scenic beauty, biodiversity, clean drinking water and unparalleled recreational opportunities for future generations of Oregonians.

Cabin along the Deschutes River at the Riverhouse Hotel
On the our hotel property in Bend, Oregon is a cabin that sits across from Crossings Restaurant and Pub. This old cabin used to be a mine shack for the Old Sterns Cattle Company used in the early 1900s along the Lazy River south of Sunriver, Oregon. In the 1970s a film crew used it for the movie Rooster Cogburn and were asked to place it on the Riverhouse property when they were done. Video of courtesy of Zolo Media

Paddling the Kishwaukee River Trail- Sycamore to Baseline Road
Welcome to our video guide series to paddling the Kishwaukee River in Northern Illinois! We at Morrall River Films have paddled all over the country filming, passing interesting and valuable information on to our viewers. It’s long overdue for us to show you our local river, the Kishwaukee. With great pride we’ve produced these individual day trip guides on one of the areas premier class “A” stream. With a canoe, kayak, or even a tube on some stretches, you too can enjoy this fantastic Midwest stream.
[A designation of Class A describes a stream where a significant number of the species of fish are silt intolerant. It identifies a unique aquatic resource and ecosystem which is comparable to a stream with no human interference in its history.]
We’ll be adding installments throughout the 2015 paddling season so stay tuned!
Our goal is to begin our travels at the farthest points upstream on both the North and South Branches that we feel are suitable for most paddlers. We’ll continue downstream all the way to the river’s end at the Rock River.

Rim Rock Trail at Smith Rock State Park
The easy 1/2 mile Rim Rock Trail skirts Smith Rock State Park along the top of the canyon. We pick it up where it connects to the camping area and another trail that descends to the river below. A favorite hiking trail for those wanting to experience the amazing vistas, rock climbing action, and soaring bald eagles that nest nearby from above the river gorge.
