Fishing Desert Breeze Lake Chandler, Arizona
Went to Desert Breeze on a really hot day. Ended up catching a lone Channel Catfish on a hotdog covered in garlic powder. The lake was basically empty except for a few people walking. It was a very hot day which probably contributed to me catching no other fish. Saw a ton of Largemouth Bass swimming around and a lot of bass younglings in the shallows. Overall a nice day, but a hot day but that is just to be expected from the valley of the sun. Be sure to check out my other YouTube videos. Overview of Chandler, Arizona
In 1891, Dr. Alexander Chandler, the first veterinary surgeon in the Arizona Territory, settled on a ranch south of Mesa, studying irrigation engineering. By 1900, he had acquired 18,000 acres of land, and began drawing up plans for a townsite on what was then known as the Chandler Ranch. The townsite office opened on May 17, 1912, the same year that Chandler High School was established. By 1913, a town center was established, featuring the Hotel San Marcos, the first golf resort in the state. Chandler has a total area of 58 square miles and has reached its physical limits, with the exception of some remaining county islands. It can no longer expand because it is land-locked by the Gila River Indian Community, Tempe, Mesa, Gilbert, and Phoenix.
Throughout Chandler you'll find fabulous parks, waterparks and great schools. An anchor of the downtown area is still the San Marcos Golf Resort. Consisting of the Crowne Plaza and all the modern amenities you can imagine plus world class golf, it is still a premier destination in the Valley. The Ocotillo area is very popular with many shops and restaurants, fabulous golf and a country club. Chandler Fashion Center is an upscale mall where you'll find stores such as Nordstrom, Macy's and Pottery Barn. Many other stores and strip malls surround the mall area creating a shopping mecca that can rival any in the country. The downtown area has been developed into a popular attraction with shopping, restaurants and even a improv club. There are many amazing restaurants downtown and you'll find everything from Italian, Thai, a steak house and even an ice cream sandwich shop!
Once a month the city holds a downtown art walk with local artists and live music. Every Thursday from October through April you'll be able to visit the weekly farmers market featuring over 30 vendors. And of course, there is the annual Tumbleweed Tree Lighting and Parade of Lights with dancers, stage performers and Santa's Workshop. The tumbleweed tree is definitely a unique way for the city to display it's ingenuity.
From waterslides to any kind of restaurant you can imagine, farmers markets to high end shopping, you'll find what you're looking for in Chandler. With it's great location, access to freeways and great schools, you're going to want to visit Chandler.....and you might want to put down roots here!

The Battle for Desert West
Another great AZ Urban Tournaments event was held on June 25th @ Desert West park. It was a lesson in reaction baits, those that prefished,, and myself expected a slow finesse fishing day. The fish had other plans and the reaction bite produced about 90% of the fish caught.

Pond Hopping for Special Incentive Trout
Woke up to a foggy morning, and knew AZGFD had stocked some FAT ones as a special incentive week.
Averaging 1 pound or more, these fish are actually worth chasing after. First destination was Desert Breeze. Caught a few quite early. I settled on fishing Evelyn Hallman Park as my second task. After helping a family stock up their freezer I finished up my day back where I started, at Desert Breeze Park.
Fish count (not including ones I lost):
Desert Breeze 4 hours of fishing = 4 fish
Papago/Evelyn 1.5 hours of fishing = 4 fish
Papago proved to be a real winner, I was impressed by the water clarity and quality of fish. The schools could be seen with polarized glasses from the shore.
