Arizona | Scottsdale & Cave Creek | OdySea in the Desert & Frontier Town | VLOG
We started off our Spring Break in Scottsdale, Arizona, for a little family fun exploring the desert. We spent the first day shopping and eating in Old Scottsdale where we enjoyed lunch at The Mission. We ordered the tableside guacamole, which Emily believes is the best guacamole in the United States. The second day of the trip, we traveled to Cave Creek Arizona and enjoyed lunch outside at Tonto Bar & Grill. We spent the afternoon at Frontier Town where we did some tourist shopping and watched the old western show with a gun battle. We capped off our Frontier Town experience with a horse drawn stagecoach ride. On our final day of the trip, we visited the fairly new Odysea in the Desert where we got to see a ton of fish and sea creatures. The kids had a blast exploring all of the different aquariums. We enjoyed our last evening’s dinner at Grayhawk Golf Club and celebrated Hunter’s birthday.
We followed our time in Arizona with a drive out to Anaheim, CA, to spend the rest of Spring Break at Disneyland!
We used the GoPro Hero 5 to capture the majority of the video. We also used our iPhones to take photos during our visit. We hope you enjoy!

1960s STATE OF ARIZONA TRAVELOGUE PHOENIX TUCSON TOMBSTONE MONUMENT VALLEY 68304
This late 1960s color travelogue film provides highlights of Arizona attractions. It is narrated by Jack Douglas as part of the America! Television series. Sunset provides a backdrop to the cacti. Outside Phoenix is the Pinnacle Peak Patio restaurant, which cuts off the neckties of diners and attaches them (and the owner’s information) to the ceiling. Two-pound T-bone steaks are flipped on the grill. A boot is on the plate for a well-done order (:45-2:39). Eduardo Castle introduces his Tucson Boys Chorus, who sing and do rope tricks (2:40-3:35). Old Tucson, an amusement attraction, has also been used as a film set. The Lost Dutchman Ghost Mine, stagecoach ride, and a live action gunfight with the Sheriff are shown (3:36-5:38). The American Heritage Wax Museum features Coronado, Geronimo, Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley, Jessie James, and Johnny Ringo (5:39-6:58). Tombstone has an 1882 Courthouse. A vintage-dressed actress crosses the street to the Bird Cage Theatre. The owner of the O.K. Corral narrates the events of the day. A sign marks where Wyatt Earp was shot. An antique hearse transported victims to the Boot Hill Graveyard. Tombstones there have facts about their deaths (7:00-10:30). Arizona sand dunes, cacti, and blooms on a cactus are shown, including on a saguaro cactus. Shown are a scorpion, giant tarantula, Gila monster, and a Diamondback rattlesnake (10:31-11:45). The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum features prairie dogs, a tortoise to pet, walk-in bird cages with chachalacas, western roadrunners, and turkey vultures. It also has coatimundi (coati) and jaguars. A talk is given holding a javelina and a bobcat is fed a bottle (11:55-15:08). A guide drives a four-wheel tour vehicle through Monument Valley to the Navajo reservation. They pass two colorfully dressed Navajo girls on horses. A saddle and blanket are taken into a hogan. Navajo shepherdesses drive the sheep home across the red sand. Navajo women spin and card wool. One weaves a blanket on a loom. A large dried grass comb is used to brush hair (15:09-18:03). Montezuma Castle National Monument has cliff dwellings. A drawing depicts its architecture components (18:05-19:03). The Grand Canyon and Colorado River are panned. A blizzard blankets the Canyon in snow. Melting ice drips off a tree branch. Hopi Indians perform the Feather Dance and Hoop Dance. Horses with riders wind up the narrow path of the Canyon (19:05-22:10). Bits of already shown footage close the video (22:11-22:38).

A Day in the Desert: Saguaro Wilderness
On the surface it might not look like much is going on in the desert, but even on the hottest, driest days, if you look behind the scenes, the Sonora desert is vibrant. Join us for a day to explore the rhythmic cycles of the wildlife that have adapted to call this wild place home.
This designated wilderness area protects the towering saguaro cacti, which have evolved to thrive in the Sonora desert's unique five seasons. The saguaro can hold over 200 gallons of water and provides nourishment and refuge for desert wildlife. White-winged doves and gila woodpeckers feed on the saguaro's white flowers, which bloom at night. The flowers give way to a moist fleshy red fruit, which is enjoyed by birds like the tiny yellow verdin, and ground animals like the large, pig-looking javelina.
The gila woodpecker also uses the saguaro as a home, drilling holes in the soft flesh of the cactus, which heals itself, creating a nest. The temperature inside the cactus is 20º F cooler, making it an ideal place to hide out during the heat of the day. Cactus wrens and Harris's hawks also nest in the arms of the saguaro, which provide shade and prickly protection.
As the morning sun crosses the landscape, other wildlife look for shade or retreat to their dens or underground burrows to avoid the sun. While the air temperature may hover over 100° F, the ground surface temperature can be closer to 150° F. As the sun disappears and temperatures cool, the desert comes to life. Rattlesnakes, tarantulas, coyotes, bobcats, skunks, and javelina all begin to forage and look for prey.
To thrive despite the lack of water, some animals have developed additional adaption strategies to get through the dry seasons; the gila monster stores fat in its plump tail and the desert tortoise stores water in its bladder.
The 'night shift' includes footage that was captured by Saguaro's remote camera traps as part of a scientific study to monitor the diversity of species and their distribution throughout the park. These cameras are motion triggered and provide glimpses of wildlife such as badgers, gray foxes, and ringtails as they go about their regular business without any human presence.

Wild Arizona-Creatures Of The Southwest
Experience the sudden beauty of a sun flower swaying on a soft desert breeze. A tarantula hawk weaves his way through the lush green vegetation. Some lizards like to pose. A garter snake slithers to the rhythm and dances across the sandy gravel. Road side pronghorns stay alert. Elk roam cautiously through the forest at the higher elevations. Serenity speaks, spiritual in nature, as an array of color illuminates the sunset skies over Greer, Arizona.
VIDEO: Snow made for slow drive to Flagstaff
A strong cold front moving through Arizona is bringing significant snow and some rain to the state. The heaviest snow so far has been in northern Arizona at Prescott, Sedona and areas south of Flagstaff.

Travel Guide to Flagstaff, Arizona - USA
- Visit for more information on Flagstaff, AZ
Flagstaff, AZ is located in Northern Arizona near the San Francisco Peaks and the Grand Canyon. Due to the high elevation of the city in Arizona it is much cooler as the desert situated in South Arizona. Flagstaff is a dry place but rain and snow falls in the area, which is enough for the ponderosa pine trees to flourish and grown all over the landscape. The city is also located on the historical Route 66.
