Lighthouse Ratnagiri:-
Ratnagiri Lighthouse is situated in the Ratnagiri Fort, Ratnagiri Lighthouse stands on the southern bastion known as Siddha Buruj of this horse shoe shaped fort. A small passage by the side of fort wall leads to this lighthouse. The lighthouse was built to guide ships traveling in the Arabian Sea as well as to keep vigil. Initially constructed as a stone mound in the 1800s, the lighthouse was rebuilt and improved along the way by first constructing a 10 m brick and stone tower with a wick lamp in 1867 which was later replaced in the 1940s with a 12.5 m steel tower with a gas flashing light. Now the lighthouse has a 15 m tower with a metal halide lamp, a radio beacon, and storm warning equipment.
Easily accessible, the lighthouse commands a panoramic view of the Arabian Sea as well as the Ratnagiri City. Mesmerizing views of the sun set makes it a preferred picnic spot for the whole family.

Details of Kunkeshwar Temple : Kunkeshwar is a village in Maharashtra, India.
This town is situated on the bank of Arabian Sea. There is a temple for the Hindu deity Shiva in the town. This temple is holy place in Konkan, and is also known as Konkan Kashi.
Kunkeshwar is built along the sea. Kunkeshwar produces Alphonso mangoes.

HISTORY OF KUNKESHWAR
The temple of Kunkeshwar was built many years back. According to legend, a sailor traveling in the sea for trade came near the beach of Kunkeshwar. Suddenly a havoc appeared in sea. The sailor was a Muslim. The ship seemed to sink in the sea. He saw a lamp on that beach. He prayed to that lamp I don't know who you are. But if you will help me and stop the havoc I will build a temple for you. And his ship came to the seashore of Kunkeshwar without any problem. He built the temple as promised. The Lingam was already there. As the Sailor was a non-Hindu, he thought that his religion will not accept him. Therefore he committed suicide from the top of temple.

Vijaydurg Fort - विजयदूर्ग किल्ला
Sindhudurg District, Maharashtra
Vijaydurg Fort is located in Maharashtra Vijaydurg Fort
Type Sea fort
Vijaydurg , the oldest fort on the Sindhudurg coast, was constructed during the regime of Raja Bhoja II of the Shilahar dynasty (construction period 1193-1205) and restructured by Shivaji Maharaj.
Earlier, the fort encompassed an area of 5 acres (1 acre = 4840 square yards or 4047 square metres) and was surrounded by sea on all four sides. Over the years the eastern trench was reclaimed and a road constructed thereon. Presently the area of fort is about 17 acres and is surrounded by the Arabian Sea on three sides. Shivaji extended the area of the fort by constructing three walls on the eastern side, each 36 metres high. He also constructed 20 bastions.
According to legend, this is one of only two Maratha forts where Shivaji personally hoisted the saffron flag. The other fort is Torna.
Vijaydurg Fort was called the Eastern Gibraltar, as it was virtually impregnable. Its locational advantages include the 40 km long Waghotan/Kharepatan creek. Large vessels cannot enter the shallow water of this creek. Also, Maratha warships could be anchored in this creek and yet remain invisible from the sea. It is a protected monument.
Location
Vijaydurg fort is located at the tip of the peninsular region of Vijaydurg in Devgad Taluka, of district Sindhudurg. It is one of the several coastal forts on the western coast of Maharashtra, India. It is surrounded by water on all the four side but connected to land through a narrow road. The port adjacent to the fort is a natural port and is still used by local fishermen.

Devgad Fort was originally built in the year 1705, under the command of Kanoji Angre, the then chief of Maratha Naval Force. The name of the city, Devgarh (in which the fort is located), is derived from the name of the fort itself. Located in the bay area of the Arabian Sea, the fort is surrounded by water on three sides and sits pretty high on the Devgad creek. This well protected port city used to serve as a natural harbor for the Maratha naval forces.
When the fort was first built, it had water on all its sides and hence was initially called by the name, “Janjire Devgad.” The term ‘Janjiire’ in Arabic means ‘Island’. Spread over 120 acres, the fort houses a Ganesh temple, port office and a lighthouse at its rear end which serve as major tourist attractions. There is a wide road constructed in the fort which heads directly towards lighthouse.
You can reach this place by train as well as road. The nearest railway stations are Nangaon and Kankavli, on Konkan Railway. Devgad Fort |
