The Tibet Museum Photo Exhibition at Dhakpo Shedrupling Monastery Kias, kullu
DHARAMSHALA: At the invitation of the Dhakpo Shedrubling Monastery based in Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, the Tibet Museum staff travelled to Kullu and presented two of its mobile exhibits from 30 August to 1 Sept 2014.
The exhibitions took place during Dhakpo Rinpoche’s teachings, which were attended by hundreds of people, local monks and foreigners from various parts of the world.
The exhibitions were inaugurated by Dhakpo Rinpoche on 30 August and was opened to the public. Before the inauguration, Mr. Tashi Phuntsok, Director of the Tibet Museum, gave a brief introduction about the exhibitions. He also spoke about the current situation prevailing inside Tibet and the Central Tibetan Administration’s efforts to resolve the issue through the Middle Way Approach.
The first exhibit, titled ‘The Burning Question : Why are Tibetans turning to self-immolation?’ features extensive photographic and textual information on the causes of the self-immolation inside Tibet, as well as some of the self-immolators’ last words. The second exhibition – ‘India and Tibet : Ancient bonds, current ties’ – focused on Indo-Tibet relations throughout history and leading up to the present day.
During the 3-day exhibition, several documentary films were also screened to hundreds of people, in order to complete their experience and add to their understanding of the two exhibitions.
‘The event was a success, and visitors gave us very positive feedback. We hope that, beyond informing them on Tibet’s current situation and the CTA’s position, the exhibitions will lead them to concrete actions in support of Tibet’, said Mr. Tashi Puntsok.
‘I feel very sad after visiting the exhibition. For the moment I just want to ask myself what I can do, as a citizen of the world’, added a French tourist after her visit of the exhibitions.

This waterfall is about 25 kms from Manali near a place called Raison. We were supposed to go Jana waterfall which was 12 kms interior from the main road. The cab driver said Jana waterfall not accessible and hence took us to this roadside waterfall. However we were consoled that it was the same river and same same water which flows from Jana waterfall.
River Rafting is a popular water sports in Kullu. There are hundreds of rubber boats ready to carry you for short (4 kms) or Long (8 kms) ride. A short ride will take you 30 minutes and cost 600 rupees. There is no risk as the water is less. You will feel thrilled when the boat will hit on the rocks and sharply twist directions.
Nicholas Roerich Art Gallery is located in Naggar which is about 20 kms from Manali. Nicholas Roerich was a Russian artist who was born in Russia, stayed at various places in world and died in Naggar here at this place. The Art gallery shows about 200 paintings of the artist. You can climb down to see the memoial stone of the painter. Entry ticket 50 rs per head. We felt it was a waste of time and money to travel so much distance just to see the paintings.
Naggar Castle is a Heritage Building in Naggar, a place about 20 kms from Manali. The Castle was built by Raja Siddhi Sing in early Sixteenth century (you can read more details from the photo of the sign board). You have to pay an entrance fee of Rs 30/- per head. There is also an HPTDC hotel and restaurant in the castle. If you have not enough time you may skip this item from your Manali tour.

Kais Monestry Kullu
Kais Monastery of Kullu was built very recently. This monastery was inaugurated during the month of May in the year 2005 by the great Noble laureate and his Holiness, The Dalai Lama. This Monastery is exactly located near to the left bank of the Beas River. The Picturesque view of the valleys which are surrounding the place in a magical way makes the destination more appealing.
This Monastery is located very close to Kullu and almost 10Kms away from it. The best part is that anyone can see this monastery from both banks of the Beas River close to Kullu. Lush green hills are surrounding the place which makes the place a favorite destination for the tourists visiting Kullu.
