DCMA: Follow the Music Campaign
This is an urgent call to keep our doors open and the music flowing at Dhow Countries Music Academy, Zanzibar's one and only music school in historic Stone Town. The DCMA faces the most critical moment in its 17-year history. We need to raise $70,000 by the end of the year to sustain our award-winning music programs, classes and concerts. Over 80 dedicated students and 19 teachers now depend on your support. Without you, the soulful sounds that make these islands sing may cease.

Festival of the Dhow Countries Zanzibar (English)
Joan's multiple tours in Africa have included Tunisia, Gabon, Zambia and Tanzania, including appearing at the Festival of the Dhow Countries, also known as ZIFF, during the latter. Touring in Africa has always been a very moving experience for her, not least on this occasion, where the venue has a dark history as a former slave port. As Joan explains in this interview with the BBC's Destination Music program, music has power to change the world and to even convert such a place to a haven of peace, joy, racial harmony and musical fellowship.
