Buntzen Lake: Diez Vistas Hike
Hello and welcome to Gamers Hike.
Today (May 2nd, 2018), Odette and I will Travel to Buntzen Lake located near Port Moody, British Columbia, Canada to do the Diez Vistas Hike. “Diez Vistas” translates from Spanish to Ten Views which include spectacular views of the Burrard Inlet, Indian Arm, the North Shore Mountains and Eagle Ridge. The hike is rated as moderate although I would only recommend experienced or fit hikers to attempt it.
The hike is accessible by Public Transport. From Downtown Vancouver, take the Expo Line to Commercial-Broadway, switch to the Millenium Line and ride to Moody Centre. Wait for bus 182 at Bay 4, 5 or 6 and ride to Southbound Sunnyside Road at Anmore Grocery Store.
The hike should take roughly 6-8 hours to complete at a total distance of 12.8 km with a maximum elevation gain of 420 m and a cumulative elevation gain of 860 m.
We decided to do the loop in a clockwise direction in order to complete the toughest part of the hike first saving the easy walking for the last stretch. We started our hike at the Main Parking area at South Beach. The trail head is located at the South End of the Parking lot.
The first kilometer is flat and just follow the designated signage until you cross the lake and Powerhouse Road. This is where the real climbing begins so make sure you have enough water and take breaks as required.
Travelling uphill through the forest you will eventually cross the pipeline and power line followed by some switchbacks until you reach a viewpoint. Note that this is not an official viewpoint.
At this point you can choose to do the east loop, which takes you to views of Belcarra, Sasamat, Eagle Ridge and Buntzen Lake, or take the left route and bypass those viewpoints.
After reaching the high point where the two trails reunite, you continue your travels through the forest that takes you to the officially numbered viewpoints. Just note that some of the views were obscured by trees during our travels.
As you descend, the trail will eventually terminate at the BC Hydro service road, where you’ll take a right and follow the service road for about 250 m and take another right onto the Old Buntzen Lake Trail.
After joining the Old Buntzen Lake trail, take a left and you will eventually cross the suspension bridge leading to North Beach. From here just follow the Buntzen Lake Trail back to South Beach.

Like any good game developer I have hidden an Easter Egg in this video. A game reference of some kind. Did you spot it? If you did leave a comment below stating the name of the game and timestamp where you saw it. Happy hunting.

Diez Vistas Trail - Buntzen Lake
Diez Vistas (aka 10 Views) is one of the trails around Buntzen Lake. This moderate hiking course provides you spectacular views of Indian Arm, Vancouver’s waterways and the surrounding mountains. Although we couldn't pass one of the trails and a floating bridge due to high water, it was an enjoyable hike.
