Dittisham is a village and civil parish in the South Hams district of the English county of Devon. It is situated on the banks of the tidal River Dart, some 2 miles upstream of Dartmouth. In 2001, the parish had a population of 424.
The Greenway Ferry carries pedestrians across the river from Dittisham to Greenway Quay, adjacent to the Greenway Estate. Once the home of the crime writer Agatha Christie, this has views across the river, and the house and gardens are now owned by the National Trust and are open to the public.
The equivalent figures for 1801 and 1901 are 639 and 549. Dittisham has given its name to the Dittisham plum, a dessert variety grown here. The fictitious Lady Dittisham is one of the main characters In Agatha Christie's Five Little Pigs.

Description
Sea Kayaking Devon - Dittisham - Dartmouth.
A paddle down the River Dart, out into the open sea, passing Dartmouth, and Kingswear. This was a super little trip, and is quite an easy one to do. I put in at Dittisham (Pron. dit - sum) after having a breakfast in Dartmouth. As stated, the tide was all wrong, I paddled against the last 2hrs of the flood tide, until I reached the Castle, and then it turned, ensuring I was paddling against it all day. It didn't matter much, it was a neap tide, and for the most part it was negligible. A spring tide would be altogether different though, and would be much harder work. This is a beautiful scenic area, and must rate as one of the most desirable places in the UK to reside. Some of the Properties, as you will see, are second to none, and personally, if I had the money, I would opt for here, over Sandbanks, in Dorset, any day of the year. But that is personal choice, anyway, see for yourself, and you decide? The trip down river was good, and the passing Steam Train was a real treat for me, but it was somewhat overcast, until I reached Dartmouth. I entered the 'Boat Float' little dock in the centre of town, and got some bacon from the shop for later! From here on, it was sublime, the weather superb, and seemed to get better as the day wore on. The original plan was to leave the Dart, and head for Berry Head, closing the gap from yesterday's paddle, but it was rather choppy out there, and it was too far of a journey to complete anyway. I was rewarded with an hour on the small, un-named beach. It was really excellent, had bacon barms, and a cup of tea, had a small fire, and just generally mellowed out. The return up river in the setting sun was a minor classic, I think, and will live long in the memory. This was my first time use of a Gopro, for Kayaking, and I was somewhat unprepared, with the mounts. This will be resolved for next time.
