The view is magnificent, from the house you can see many remarkable places such as Thingeyri, Vatndalshóll, Borgarvirki and Hvítserkur. It is also possible to see all the way to Thristapi which is the location of the last execution in Iceland. Gullsteinn is only 700 meters from the house but that is the location where Icelanders first took up the christian religion.
A short drive from the cottage in Húnavellir there is a swimming pool and in Blonduos there is a golf course. Marked hiking trails are in the area follow
ICELAND -Akureyri
AKUREYRI is a town in northern Iceland. It is Iceland's second largest urban area, and fourth largest municipality
Nicknamed the Capital of North Iceland, Akureyri is an important port and fishing centre. The area where Akureyri is located was settled in the 9th century but did not receive a municipal charter until 1786.[1] The town was the site of Allied units during World War II. Further growth occurred after the war as the Icelandic population increasingly moved to urban areas.
The area has a relatively mild climate because of geographical factors, and the town's ice-free harbour has played a significant role in its history.

In this hilarious chapter of our Iceland road trip around the country, we drive from Akureyri to Vík as we explore northern Iceland's natural wonders, eat langoustines on the east coast, and frolic on black sand beaches. We also attempted to learn to speak Icelandic, but we definitely need to practice more for next time!
Arctic Whale Watching from Dalvik close to Akureyri north Iceland
Arctic Whale watching from Dalvik close to Akureyri north Iceland with Arctic Sea Tours is adventure on sea. Great sighting success and five stars on TripAdvisor. Whale watching takes place in the picturesque landscape of Eyjafjordur and fishing inside the majestic mountains of Tröllaskagi just short off the Arctic Circle.
Whale watching is an activity you should not miss out on! In Dalvík you have an exceptionally good chance to encounter the great humpback whale and often we spot white-beaked dolphins, minke whales, the small harbor porpoises and sometimes even the majestic blue whale. Overall we have seen whales or dolphins in 98% of our whale watching tours. The whale watching tour is built up as an adventure. So with an excellent chance of seeing whales you can also expect more fun with fishing and tasting of the freshly caught cod, haddock, pollock or atlantic catfish.
In the year 2017 from 1st May - 30th November we saw humpback whales in 99.5% of the tours, unbelievable and long may it continue.

Iceland timelapse - Reykjavik to Akureyri through Kjolur highland route
This is a timelapse we took last summer (2017) with our gopro travelling from our home in Reykjavik to Akureyri. We went a different route then the usual one and took the highland route Kjölur interior F35.
Taken from wikipedia article on Kjölur:
Like Sprengisandur highland road, the area was probably known since the first times of Icelandic settlement and is mentioned in the Icelandic sagas. A track along Langjökull was used a shortcut between regions during summer. This is today known as Kjalvegur hinn forni (Old Kjalvegur) and is still in use for trekking and horse-riding. Piles of stones mark the track through the highland desert. After some people had perished in a snowstorm by the end of the 18th century, the Kjölur road was forgotten for about 100 years. It was rediscovered in the 19th century.
In the 18th century, the Icelandic outlaw Fjalla-Eyvindur used the Hveravellir hot springs as a settlement. One of the hot spots in this area is still used for bathing.
A gravel road known as Kjalvegur (F35) runs through the centre of the area, connecting the Southern Region and Northwestern Region of the country. A few smaller tracks lead from the main track, making Hveravellir and Kerlingarfjöll accessible by car. Other tracks however, may only be used on foot.
