Guerrero Negro, Mexico - Grey Whale watching - March 2016
I had an opportunity to visit Laguna Ojo de Liebre in Baha Mexico to check out mating Grey Whales in the lagoon. The whales migrate to a few lagoons on the pacific coast of the Baja peninsula each year to mate and to have their calves. Some of the whales come right up to the boats for human interaction. Its hard to imagine that not too long ago, these magnificent creatures were slaughtered by humans as they arrived for this annual migration. The area is also rife with other wildlife, including many species of birds.

A pair of apparently conjoined whale calves have been found dead off the coast of Guerrero Negro, Baja California Sur in Mexico. Scientists say it would have been virtually impossible for the two gray whales, which weigh half a tonne and measure four metres (13 feet) in length, to survive, indicating they were probably born prematurely or stillborn. Tissue samples have been taken for further investigation

Mexico whale watching at Kuyima
Gray whale watching in Laguna San Ignacio, Baja California Sur at Kuyima camp.
These are friendly whales in their natural habitat, they are playful and curious. They come from Alaska 3 months every year to a few spots in Baja California to breed in calm waters with no predators.
The Mexico government is protecting these whales and is very strict about how the watching is done. There is a maximum number of boats, and a limited time on every trip.
This is a once in a lifetime experience and you can do it too. Check kuyima.com
