Inter-Korean peace park's fate in the balance
A proposed peace park, straddling the border between North and South Korea, is under threat. The park would be inside the Demilitarised Zone and, if completed, would be a big step in building trust between the two sides, which are still technically at war. However, lack of agreement between the two sides has put the project's fate in the balance.
Al Jazeera's Harry Fawcett reports from Paju on the North-South Korean border.

South Korea Sightseeing | Imjingak park and Dorasan Station
South Korea Sightseeing | Imjingak park and Dorasan Station #southkorea #imjingak #dorasan
A early morning drive from Seoul for a half day tour of the DMZ area.
Our 1st stop was Imjingak Park for about 20min to see the sights of the Peace Bell and the Freedom Bridge.
Back on the bus we headed into the DMZ area to visit a museum and the 3rd tunnel built by the North Koreans.
After about an hour and a grueling hike down the tunnel we then headed over to Dora observatory where we could see over the DMZ area and into North Korea and it's PROPAGANDA village We finished off visiting Dorasan station which is the last train station in South Korea before heading into North Korea.
The trip was very interesting and informative. Even though we could not go the the JSA area it was still worth it.
Hope you enjoy

The Imjin River serves as the border between South and North Korea near Paju. Imjingak is a park on the banks where a bridge causes the river and was once used to transport goods into North Korea and where POWs were repatriated after the Korean War.

Paju, city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea near border with North Korea
Paju (Korean pronunciation: [pʰa.dʑu]) is a city in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. Paju was made a city in 1997; it had previously been a county (gun).[1]
The city area is 672.78km2,[2] and it is located just south of Panmunjeom on the 38th parallel. In 2015, the population of Paju has increased to 427,668.[2] To defend the South Korean capital, Seoul, many U.S. and South Korean army bases are set up in the city.[3] In 2002, the northernmost South Korean railway station, Dorasan, was opened. North Korean territory and Kaesong City can be seen from Mount Dora in the city.
• Cosmos is Paju City's representative of flowers growing wild in Spring. It has very strong vitality, and symbolize unity and harmonious life as a citizen of Paju City. The flowers are neat and beautiful with different colors such as pale pink and red.
Gingko
• Ginkgos are large and beautiful trees which are usually planted as street trees. People can obtain high-quality wood from them. Also, their leaves and fruits are used as a valuable medicine. Magnificent view of the trees means prosperity and eternal peace in Paju City.
Pigeon
• Pigeons are meek and gentle with soft feathers which follow humans well. They symbolize the peace and security of mankind, and they mean to desire the unification of the Korean Peninsula and the well-being of citizens .
Badge of Paju City
• The badge brings the look of Paju implicitly. Semiconductors, which symbolize high-tech industry, high-quality culture and books, and life based on the shape of the rice industry have represented the badge with the symbol Paju logo.[4]

Last Dream of Korean War Veteran
Sometimes even the life of one person can serve as evidence of tragic history that should never be forgotten. The 82-year-old Korean War veteran Kenneth Lee Ostrum from the U.S. visited Korea for the first time since the devastating war, and he brought with him a photograph that was taken 60 years ago. Mr. Ostrum was in charge of training recruits and restoring the ruined infrastructure of Korean cities. The most rewarding and memorable thing for him was setting up an orphanage for war orphans. He says he received inspiration and encouragement from Korean people who helped one another during the difficult times and didn't lose hope even in the most desperate situations.
During his one-week stay in Korea, Mr. Ostrum visited Imjingak Park and Dora Observatory in Paju, which symbolize the pain of the divided nation. He was impressed by how Seoul has grown into one of the world's biggest metropolises. But the primary goal of Mr. Ostrum's trip to Korea was visiting Nonsan and Ganggyeong, where he wanted to meet with Miss Jang, who spearheaded the establishment of the orphanage during the Korean War. The faded photo that he brought with him shows the 22-year-old Mr. Ostrum with some 50 war orphans and the unforgettable Miss Jang. Will the final wish of his life come true?

DMZ gains international recognition for its ecology
DMZ 생태계..미래 큰 자산
The beauty and biological diversity of Korea′s DMZ is second to none around the world.
Basically untouched by humans for more than six decades,... the place is teaming with endangered plant and animal species.
And South Korea is pushing for the DMZ,... a remnant of war,... to become a symbol for a peaceful future.
Kim Hyun-bin reports.
This is the military demarcation line separating the two Koreas.
It stretches across some 250 kilometers of the border and is,... at most points,... four kilometers wide.
It′s also the most heavily fortified border in the world.
The DMZ,... as it′s more commonly known,... contains nine-hundred-seven square kilometers of land,... and accounts for almost half-a-percent of the Korean peninsula.
For 62 years now,... the land has been untouched by man and is a sealed off slice of pristine nature,... a safe home to scores of endangered species and wildlife.
As a result,... the DMZ has developed its own historic, environmental and economic identity over the last six decades or so.
″There are numerous types of species here from both Koreas because this is a place where the ecologies of the two meet. The Ministry of Environment lists 171 endangered species, and the DMZ contains 75 of them.″
In recent years, the South Korean government has been pushing to list the DMZ as an internationally-recognized area of outstanding natural beauty.
President Park Geun-hye has also expressed an strong interest in establishing a Inter-Korean World Eco-Peace Park at the DMZ.
″The goal of the eco-peace park is to enhance the trust between the two Koreas and open up a section of the DMZ, but the most important part of that will be how well we preserve it. We need legislation to provide the funding to protect the area.″
Despite the ongoing tensions between the two Koreas,... the South Korean government is hoping to persuade North Korea to make the park a reality sooner rather than later.
″The DMZ a long-term symbol of separation could become a beacon of peace and harmony,... if a special park is established here.
Kim Hyun-bin, Arirang News, Paju.″
Hanbok fashion show sends message of hope at Imjingak Pyeonghwa-Nuri Park
6월 호국의 달 맞아 임진각에서 전통복식 패션쇼 열려
While the developments following the Korean war make reunification seem like an illusive goal.
Peel away the layers and at the core, you'll find the two Koreas share many cultural and historic elements as they are one and the same.
A meaningful fashion show featuring traditional clothings of both sides was held.
Oh Jung-hee takes us to a peace theme park near the dividing line, the DMZ.
Celebrating the memorial month of June here in Korea, a fashion show featuring Hanbok, Korea's traditional clothing, was held at Imjingak Pyeonghwa-Nuri Park on Friday.
The park is in Paju, just north of Seoul,... seven kilometers from the military demarcation line between the two Koreas.
Korea is a country that has felt the pain of being divided into two countries. As a person from Paju that's very close to the North... I wanted to send a message of hope towards unification.
And we wanted to show Korean history through fashion, too.
The show walked the visitors through the history of the Korean peninsula, with Hanbok from the Three Kingdoms Period and Josun dynasty being showcased.
It also commemorated the veterans of the Korean War, with some of the military uniforms they wore in 1950 being paraded.
I got to know about this festival through social media. It's really nice to see the various types of costumes... that are not really easy to see in everyday life. I took hundreds of photos of this fasion show.
This park was built in the hope that unification will one day be possible. And that hope was to be seen here all evening... with fashion and attire reminding us of the tradition that the two Koreas shared before conflict and war. Oh Jung-hee, Arirang News, Paju.
