A Drive Down Norman Manley Boulevard in Negril…!
This video is of “A Drive Down Norman Manley Boulevard”. The video starts at what used to be called the Salt Creek River, renamed to the Orange River, and continues down Norman Manley Boulevard to the Negril Round About.
This is the first of three videos that I am posting of drives recently taken around the Negril area. The background music on all three videos is from an afternoon at Drifters Bar and Entertainment Venue at One Mile, Fisherman’s Beach in Negril. Drifters Bar, is known as a fantastic place to spend the afternoon enjoying Jamaican vibes, talented local and guest artists, dancing to the vibes, and great food and beverages served by a friendly staff. 62s: Terry Gillespie + Crystal Axe: 'I'd Rather Go Blind', No Name Bar, Jamaica 2019
Terry Gillespie is coming to Toronto (actually Etobicoke) on Friday July 19th at Dakota's Sports Bar & Grill (2-2814 Lakeshore Blvd West)...He will be joined by Crystal Axe from Negril, Jamaica and a crack back-up band led by the groove-king himself Owen Brown on bass... He has been possibly my favorite musician these past 5-6 years...as Sue Foley says: Terry should be much better known then he is......here's your chance to support one of Canada's un-sung heroes...his story is amazing...his music even better...
Terry Gillespie met Crystal Axe's iconic musical family 'The Overtakers' in Negril, Jamaica over 25 years ago. She has created her own identity in the Negril music scene. It is often she's introduced as Jamaica's very own Tina Turner. Now for the past few years she has been performing with Terry every winter at her venue 'The No Name Bar' in Negril. They play a unique mix of Blues, Soul, R&B, Jazz and Reggae.
Crystal Axe will be joining Terry Gillespie for the month of July touring in Ontario and Quebec.
I will be releasing a bunch of short I minute videos over the next couple of weeks promoting their tour...Please go out and support live music everywhere!

Terry Gillespie: Country Girl, VanLeek, Ont 2016
Terry Gillespie and Sue Foley go back approximately 30 years ago. When Sue was about 14 yrs old she would go and watch Terry play around various venues in Ottawa....she has been hooked on the blues ever since. So it was through pure luck that the 2 of them were able to get together in July 2016 and do a one-night gig in Terry's neck of the woods south of Ottawa. You can see the love, respect and admiration the two of them have for each other. I was lucky enough to be invited to capture the evening on tape....here's one of my favourites that night.

Pride & Joy... Opens... Montgomery Village 2018 Summer Music Series
If you have ever wondered why band after band claims Montgomery Village as the most fun venue they have ever played... Wonder No More... Here it is in Living Color!!!...
How did it happen that Montgomery Village grew to be the ultra-fun, high-spirited Summer venue of the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond?...
In the 2009 Mike Watermann got together with the Coddings of Montgomery Village and put together a fun fundraiser... You know, a way to raise a few bucks for local charities... Mike was drumming for the Unauthorized Rolling Stones... so Rudy (Mick) and the boys agreed to do a gig... The next year a few more bands were added... and by the third year, the line-up was beginning to become quite impressive...
In late Summer 2010 I showed up to see one of the shows... and to my surprise only one person was dancing in front of the stage... a couple hundred or more people were just watching and listening!... I couldn't believe it!...
So, I got onto the dance floor and danced with the one woman... whom I did NOT know... At the end of the song, I gave her a Big Hug!... and then another couple came onto the dance floor... At the end of the song Shelley (the woman I danced with) looked at me and we nodded to each other... AND THEN we hugged the other couple... The next song there were about 25 people dancing on the floor!...
Shelley had a little red pocket camera... and she began taking photographs of the dancers... Butch, the guy from the second couple, began bringing a camera the next week... and he and Shelley took really fantastic pictures!...
Christmas of 2010 I dropped the hint that I wanted a camera... and my girlfriend at the time got me a really nice high-quality Nikon Coolpix pocket camera...
I began to realize this:
IF YOU WANT YOUR EMOTIONS TO BECOME SHARED... YOU MUST FIRST MANIFEST THAT EMOTION AS ACTION... THUS THE HUG...
AND... YOU MUST DISPLAY THE EMOTION SO AS IT BECOMES KNOWN... THUS THE PHOTOGRAPHY...
The group of dancers became larger as we came to know each others names by tagging the photos on Facebook... By mid 2012 we were very close... yet still a small group... However, as fate would have it... a birthday cake was brought to Montgomery Village by a dancer to celebrate her new boyfriend's birthday... We took photos of us in back of a Montgomery Village round table with the cake in the middle... When I got home and posted the photo on Facebook... I looked at it and exclaimed The Kids are Alright!... and named the photo such... and then said:
That's It!, we are:
The Kids are Alright!...
We have always grown one dancer at a time... one by one!...
Today, we are 346 passionate dancers...
We are the action-packed energy tribe of the Sonoma-Marin freestyle dancing community... We are indeed a loving dancing family...
And MONTGOMERY VILLAGE is our Birthplace!...
We are The Kids are Alright!...

The Skamonics are a London based ska band, playing a unique mix of authentic 60s ska, two-tone and completely unexpected covers.
London based ska band, playing a unique mix of authentic 60s ska, two-tone and bonkers covers - three horns, female vocals and a driving rhythm section.
Imagine Tainted Love sung by the Specials or if Kylie had come from Kingston, Jamaica …
A driving rhythm section provides a firm foundation for three blazing horns and a top female vocalist, blasting out a wide repertoire of ska favourites and tunes given a ska treatment for the very first time.
Made up of musicians with roots in ska, jazz, blues and soul, the Skamonics sound has wide appeal. From cool West End clubs to East London pubs, festival stages to weddings and country house parties the Skamonics have filled dance floors and won repeat bookings.

Cheryl Lescom: Rather Go Blind
Kitchener blues icon Cheryl Lescom knocks out a stellar classic at The Boathouse as the Victoria Park venue celebrates the end of an era, Nov 27, 2011. With the future of the venue uncertain, it's an emotion-packed weekend. The Boathouse is forced to close its doors during the winter of 2011/2012 while extensive renovations take place to the Victoria Park Lake and shoreline.
The Sunday matinee tradition at The Boathouse features Miss Angel and The Homewreckers, plus guests ... on this song, Lescom and harmonica player Pete Temple. The Homewreckers Chris Latta, guitar, Colin White, guitar, Al Richardson, bass, and Jimmy Boudreau, drums.
