Traveling to Jamaica in 2019 | FACTS YOU BETTER KNOW!
Greetings, Travelers! Welcome back to Traveling-Guru where we take an insider look at travel and tourism. I’m your host Dennis Foutz and if you haven’t already done so, please subscribe to this YouTube channel.
This week we are discovering Jamaica! Jamaicans are very proud of their island and their people. “Out of Many One People” In today’s insider video, you will begin to see, what I see, and deepen your understanding of this island nation, you will see why and understand why so many visitors return year after year.
This is a several part series and you’ve tuned into Jamaica’s Fast Facts!, Creative Accomodations
*All-Inclusive Resort. It was Jamaica the pioneered the all-inclusive concept and continues to perfect it with client-delighting features like butler service and swim-up rooms.
*Villa Rentals. It was Jamaica, too, that developed the villa rental concept in the Caribbean, and today’s rentals villas range from beachside cottages to full-on estates with butlers, chauffeurs, and chefs.
*Boutique hotels. Although Jamaica didn’t invent boutique hotels, Jamaica believes they are among the most original and wonderful in the world, with everything from tree houses to mountainside huts.
Natural Diversity
Between Jamaica’s high mountain peeks and its offshore coral shelf, nature has worked her own inspired magic, creating hundreds of species found nowhere else on earth. This makes the island a magnet for birdwatchers, divers, and even scientists.
Shores. Jamaica has long stretches of watersports-friendly, postcard perfect white sand beaches, but it also has black volcanic sands and dramatic cliff-framed coves.
Inland. Jungle-like mountains and mangrove forests are laced with racing rivers, waterfalls and healing hot springs.
Amazing Adventures. While carefully preserving the gifts of nature, Jamaica continues to unleash their creativity by finding new ways for visitors to enjoy their country’s beauty. Iconic adventures such as climbing Dunn’s River Falls or rafting down the Rio Grande have been joined by ziplining and flying through the jungle canopy on a roller coaster, challenging the Cockpit Country’s nearly 300 caves and explorations on mountain bikes, horseback or camel.
Rich History. For visitors, Jamaica’s rich heritage comes alive as you tour plantation great houses, historic sites, and rural mountain villages where the unique culture of the Maroons is shared through drumming and storytelling. Jamaica’s beach towns have their own stories as well, from Errol Flynn’s wild Hollywood parties on Navy Island off Port Antonio and the posh pampering of the 50s jetsetters in Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, or Negril’s flower children days.
The Vibe. One of Jamaica’s best known exports is reggae, the soundtrack to many Jamaican experiences, and the music many carry home with them as souvenirs. Reggae is celebrated in many festivals throughout the year, including Reggae Sumfest and Rebel Salute. Enthusiasts can visit the childhood and adult home of legendary reggae artiste Bob Marley, who’s credited for bringing reggae music to the world.

Traveling to Negril, Jamaica in 2019 | FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW
Greetings, Travelers! Welcome back to Traveling-Guru where we take an insider look at travel and tourism. I’m your host Dennis Foutz and if you haven’t already done so, please subscribe to this YouTube channel.
Seven-Mile Beach.
Watching the sun set from Negril’s glorious seven-mile beach, it’s easy to see why the “Flower Children” of the 60’s flocked to this remote spot at the western tip of Jamaica. The beach is now lined with appealing resorts from well-known, Jamaica based all-inclusive chains such as Sandals, Couples, Spain-based Riu, Blue Diamond and other developers. Wisely, all buildings are limited to the height of the coconut trees and set back, so the broad beach and offshore reef feel as unspoiled and inviting as ever.
Anything Goes
Despite its growth, Negril retains its laid-back, anything goes allure. Here, clients can find discrete clothing optional beaches and even pool areas and eateries, especially at Hedonism II, which is known for its party-hearty ambience.
West End
The let-it-be, no worries, no problem-attitude is most felt in the West End area. Here boutique hotels such as Rockhouse and Tensing Pen Resort, and modest guest house are tucked into the dramatic rocky cliffs. There are also a number of small, friendly eateries and bars. The area’s first and most famous, Rick’s Café, has ballooned in size and patronage, but retains its funky feel and sunset cliff diving tradition
Dining
Great seafood and Jamaican cuisine have become a Negril hallmark, in the resorts, in Negril’s small town, and at seaside restaurants like Norma’s on the Beach, Cosmo’s Seafood Restaurant and Margaritaville.
Music and Dancing
Come evening, it’s easy to find great music. Visitors and locals get down to the sounds of live reggae bands at clubs long Norman Manley Boulevard or at beachfront bars such as Alfred’s Ocean Palace and The Jungle Night Club & Sports Bar.
Experiencing Nature
Negril’s offshore reefs and sea grottoes provide a colorful and pristine haven for a parade of sea life that can be explored on a glass-bottom boat, or while snorkeling or diving. Sea-kayaking along the cliffs and canoe trips through mangrove forests as well as mountain biking and horseback rides are among other active ways to explore Negril’s natural attractions. There’s also an 18-hole golf course just south of the town.
Animal Farm & Nature
Animal Farm and Nature Reserve offers tours to individuals or groups to view a wide range of exotic birds and animals as well as to learn about alternative energy with solar and bio-gas generating plants. There is also an extensive local herb garden, each plant is labeled with the use and their local and scientific names. The beautiful gardens and open spaces make for the ideal picnic ground and facilities are provided for out-door cooking. The highlight of the experience for most visitors is the thrill of hand-feeling birds in the walk-in aviary.

10 Things NOT To Do In Jamaica
Get more Tips here!
When you book your trip to Jamaica, the odds are good that you’re headed for a spirited, but relaxing island vacation. But there's much more to Jamaica than great music and gorgeous weather. So follow these tips to keep safe and have fun while visiting Jamaica.
1. Don’t Forget About the State Department
You should know before you travel that both s*xual as*ault and armed r*bbery are common throughout the nation, in some cases even inside gated resorts.
2. Don’t Expect Help From the Cops
The Jamaican police force is universally underpaid and understaffed. Their attention is mostly focused on more serious crime so a tourist’s stolen camera doesn’t rank high on their list of priorities.
3. Don’t Try to Get Around Without a Driver
In Jamaica, they drive on the wrong, -well, left side of the road. It can be a little perplexing, but for a small fee you can hire a driver for the day to help you get around efficiently and safely.
4. Don’t Backpack Through Jamaica
People who backpack through Jamaica essentially put a target on their back, attracting the worst of the island’s criminal element. Your best bet is to spend most of your time in highly populated areas.
5. Do Your Research
Where you spend your vacation will determine what there is to do. Love the nightlife? Then, Negril has tons of thriving hot spots. Taking your family for some fun in the sun? Montego Bay is full of family friendly resorts. Want to experience Jamaica’s inland paradise? Check out Ocho Rios.
6. Don’t Look at the Merchants
When you’re browsing at shops on the island avoid direct eye contact with the merchants. They will take it as a sign that you’re interested in buying but if you’re just looking, keep your eyes on the merchandise and not on the owner.
7. Don’t Use American Dollars
While good, old-fashioned greenbacks are welcome on the island, you should consider using the Jamaican dollar. You’ll find that you don’t have to worry about exchange rates and the locals will appreciate it.
8. Don’t Get Uptight
The entire country is filled with people who are looking on the bright side, and while they’re eager to please, they’re not in any big hurry. So, you shouldn’t be, either. No one wants to hang around with a grumpy tourist.
9. Don’t Be Afraid to Explore
There is one heck of a lot more to the island of Jamaica than just lounging on its world class beaches. There are a lot of great shopping spots and natural beauty like Dunn’s River Falls.
10. Don’t Worry About Finding a Good Beach
The best part about Jamaica is that no matter where you book your reservations Jamaica will have a pristine stretch of golden sand waiting for you. Don’t spend a ton of time trying to find “the right beach.” They’re pretty much all that beach.
Where do you want to know what NOT To Do in next?
