10 Things NOT To Do In Jamaica
Get more Tips here!
When you book your trip to Jamaica, the odds are good that you’re headed for a spirited, but relaxing island vacation. But there's much more to Jamaica than great music and gorgeous weather. So follow these tips to keep safe and have fun while visiting Jamaica.
1. Don’t Forget About the State Department
You should know before you travel that both s*xual as*ault and armed r*bbery are common throughout the nation, in some cases even inside gated resorts.
2. Don’t Expect Help From the Cops
The Jamaican police force is universally underpaid and understaffed. Their attention is mostly focused on more serious crime so a tourist’s stolen camera doesn’t rank high on their list of priorities.
3. Don’t Try to Get Around Without a Driver
In Jamaica, they drive on the wrong, -well, left side of the road. It can be a little perplexing, but for a small fee you can hire a driver for the day to help you get around efficiently and safely.
4. Don’t Backpack Through Jamaica
People who backpack through Jamaica essentially put a target on their back, attracting the worst of the island’s criminal element. Your best bet is to spend most of your time in highly populated areas.
5. Do Your Research
Where you spend your vacation will determine what there is to do. Love the nightlife? Then, Negril has tons of thriving hot spots. Taking your family for some fun in the sun? Montego Bay is full of family friendly resorts. Want to experience Jamaica’s inland paradise? Check out Ocho Rios.
6. Don’t Look at the Merchants
When you’re browsing at shops on the island avoid direct eye contact with the merchants. They will take it as a sign that you’re interested in buying but if you’re just looking, keep your eyes on the merchandise and not on the owner.
7. Don’t Use American Dollars
While good, old-fashioned greenbacks are welcome on the island, you should consider using the Jamaican dollar. You’ll find that you don’t have to worry about exchange rates and the locals will appreciate it.
8. Don’t Get Uptight
The entire country is filled with people who are looking on the bright side, and while they’re eager to please, they’re not in any big hurry. So, you shouldn’t be, either. No one wants to hang around with a grumpy tourist.
9. Don’t Be Afraid to Explore
There is one heck of a lot more to the island of Jamaica than just lounging on its world class beaches. There are a lot of great shopping spots and natural beauty like Dunn’s River Falls.
10. Don’t Worry About Finding a Good Beach
The best part about Jamaica is that no matter where you book your reservations Jamaica will have a pristine stretch of golden sand waiting for you. Don’t spend a ton of time trying to find “the right beach.” They’re pretty much all that beach.
Where do you want to know what NOT To Do in next?

Jamaica Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Jamaica.
Montego Bay is Jamaica’s second largest city that, at the end of the 18th century, was one of the most important harbors for the island’s sugar industry. The lively city centre is a mixture of both old and new with modern concrete houses located next to simple wooden huts and congested streets with numerous small shops and street traders.Close to Falmouth, there’s the excitement of Martha Brae River Rafting which is an excellent way to explore this tropical paradise, in which dense tropical rain forest shows off all its spectacular colors. It was here, on the north coast, that Christopher Columbus landed in 1502 and where the Spanish were defeated by the British in a bloody battle for sovereign control of the island.Dunn`s River Falls is the name of a waterfall near to Ochos Rios, one of the island’s most well known natural attractions. In swimming attire, more than a million annual visitors attempt to climb through spraying torrents of water while linking hands in a human chain. In foaming cascades, the water plunges 200 metres down toward the sea over step-shaped limestone blocks and across an overgrown landscape of ferns and plants.Harmony Hall, a Victorian building that is a reminder of British colonial rule, is the name of an immaculate manor house located on a turn of the century plantation. Today, it contains a handicraft centre and also a gallery that displays the works of indigenous artists.James Bond Beach is the name of the former winter retreat of the English author, Ian Fleming, who created British secret agent, James Bond. The famous author wrote most of his fourteen 007 novels on the small island of Golden Eye, of which five were set in Jamaica.Expansive fields of coconut palms dominate the Sun Valley Plantation which continues a tradition that dates back 250 years. In addition to bananas, citrus fruits, papayas, melons and apples, various spices are also cultivated on the plantation.World famous for their coffee beans, the Blue Mountains represent breathtaking primeval nature with a hint of adventure, a further experience in this sun-scorched island.

Best Hotel in Jamaica:Strawberry Hills Resort Review; Blue Mountain Jamaica.
Strawberry Hills is a great get-away from reality, you are secluded, there are no TV's and the phone service is pretty weak which is why you are given a personal cell phone. The service is great and the food is delicious.

Real Jamaica
The real Jamaica is much more than the glossy 30 second commercials seen on TV. Get out in the countryside and be amazed at the mountainous nature of this Caribbean jewel with small farms and large sugar cane fields, citrus orchards and cool mountain streams with cascading waterfalls of breath taking beauty.
The beaches are mostly small except for the Negril area but the waters is warm and blue like a tropical postcard.
Jamaica has beautiful people trying to make a better life for themselves and the kids but there is also a problem with drugs, poverty, gangs and crime.
For the most part Jamaican's are welcoming but there are pockets of negative attitude to foreigners and tourists -
We love Jamaica and the Jamaican's we met but would hesitate to go to areas we are not familiar with, exercising caution.
Best Jamaica Boutique Resort - FDR Resort
Due to their smaller size, boutique resorts face a number of challenges in providing all the services to guests that todays vacationers expect.
Frank Rance owner operator of FDR Resorts in Jamaica doesn't cut corners.
When we were at the FDR Resort, every Wednesday was beach BBQ with elaborate diner set up on the beach along with entertainment. On Saturdays it was the flavor of Jamaica set up around the pool and ocean, with entertainment. There is a full sized gym with a trainer, Donavon ready to set up your workout routine in the gym or follow along in the pool. The à la carte dining was excellent and varied - snacks and drink available 24/7. Glass bottom boat rides and snorkeling tours weather permitting.
The elaborate suites are with separate bedroom, kitchen with daily snacks and room service, and living room and dining area. There are 2 and 3 bedroom units as well as honeymoon suites available.
The staff are fantastic and some have been with the resort for more than 10 years, including vacation nannies which are available to vacationers with little ones and are included at the resort.
And then there is Frank, who can be found on most days sitting under the shade of his trees in the outdoor office, steady vacationers, which are many know Frank well and will sit with him as he is always available for a chat.
Boutique resorts are smaller and more intimate, if that's something you like then check out Frankly D Resort in Jamaica.
