The Road in Cabo Pulmo and East Cape, Between La Paz and Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico
Riding the rough roads along the tip of Baja California Sur for at least four hours until we hit San Jose del Cabo. It is beautiful and the beaches are stunning; we recommend, if you have a good car, to travel it at least once.

East Cape Baja Adventure: Snorkeling Cabo Pulmo & Waterfall at Canon De La Zorra (Travel Vlog) Ep.12
We explore some of the best things to do on the East Cape of Baja California between Cabo San Lucas and La Paz. We camp at Canon de la Zorra and snorkel in the Cabo Pulmo Marine Reserve.
Camping at Los Arbolitos, Cabo Pulmo was perfect. Los Arbolitos is one of the only places to access the Cabo Pulmo reef without a boat.
After all our fun it was time to catch the ferry from Baja California to Mainland Mexico with Baja Ferries. While waiting for our departure we checked out the La Paz Malecon.

Baja California East Cape, Hotel Buena Vista
Baja California East Cape, Hotel Buena Vista
The east cape of Baja is an hours drive north of the very popular and trendy CABO San Lucas. If you are looking for great beaches and fishing without feeling like a tourist, this is the place to relax and explore.
When you arrive at the hotel Buena vista the first thing you will notice is the lush surroundings in the foreground and the turquoise blue sea of Cortez in the background. My first trip to the area was in 2008 and I have been a regular visitor ever since.
This vacation was all about getting away from the harsh northeast winter. We flew out of the New York area at 6 am and by the 1pm Baja local time we were enjoying the pool.
Some of the best snorkeling in the Sea of Cortez can be accessed from the beach.
Free Beach Camping in Baja Mexico (near San Jose Del Cabo)
Beaches are public in Mexico, free camping abounds down the Baja Peninsula. As far as I can tell (and after consulting with many campers) there don't seem to be any time limits. In this video you'll see some RV/class C campers in the distance...they have been coming to The East Cape for more than 12+ years and have never had an issue with getting harrassed, charged or been told they are 'over the time limit'. YES there are still places, in North America, which are beautiful, easy to get to and FREE!. This is Playa de Nueve Palmas (9 Palms beach) great surfing/swimming spot. Beware the sea urchin (if you step on them, you'll get their spines in your feet, no fun). Wear beach shoes in the water, walking on the shore can be done in bare feet if you keep your eyes out (had to take the man to an urgent care to get some of the spines removed that I couldn't dig out myself)
Many many camping sites along the East Cape, don't feel limited to this area alone. Latitude: 23.166214Longitude: -109.48684.
Road is paved out of San Jose Del Cabo but then turns to dust/dirt/sand. Experienced drivers can bring in a trailer/RV. I recommend an all wheel or 4 wheel for most travelers, esp if you want to drive off the road toward a beach, the sand gets thick quickly. To see road quality see my other video:
No cell service here, no bathrooms, no drinkable water, no food vendors (there is a small store a mile or so away). San Jose Del Cabo is less than 20 miles south. Keep in mind you'll want to bring in all your food/water and pack out your trash/waste.
I drive to Mexico for a few months each year. I live near the Washington/Oregon border and cross into Mexico via San Diego/Tijuana. We reach Cabo on the 5th day of driving (8-10 hr days), 2,100 miles (3380 KM).
Driving Down Baja California (we almost died)
This weekend we drove down the entire Baja California peninsula from Ensenada (1hr south of Tijuana) to La Paz (1hr north of Cabo). And man was it a challenge. Food poisoning and almost driving off the road in the dark were kind of crazy but also offset by the beautiful beaches we slept on and the desert landscapes we drove through.
OUR ITINERARY:
Friday @ noon: Depart Ensenada
Friday @ 6pm: Get dinner in San Felipe
Friday @ 9pm: Almost drive off the road
Friday @ 11pm: Get to Puerto Fin, Campo Beluga
Saturday @ 7am: Leave Campo Beluga
Saturday @ 11:30am: Stop for lunch in Guerrero Negro
Saturday @ 3pm: Suffer from food poisoning and caffeine withdrawls
Saturday @ 5pm: Stop at random camping spot on the side of the ocean, get dinner
Sunday @ 7am: Leave the campsite
Sunday @ 11:30am: Get lunch at Loreta, one of the many pueblos along the drive
Sunday @ 3pm: Get to La Paz
