Spring Drive From St Andrews To Tayport Fife Scotland
Tour Scotland travel video of a Spring road trip drive, with Scottish music, on the the A91 and A914 roads from St Andrews, on ancestry visit to Balmullo, and then East on the the A914 and B945 roads from Balmullo on ancestry visit to he harbour in Tayport, Fife. Balmullo was the home of the picture postcard cartoonist Martin Anderson known as Cynicus who was born in 1854. After his mother, Margaret Martin, separated from his father, she moved with her children to Cambuslang, Glasgow. Anderson studied at Glasgow School of Art under Robert Greenlees, in Ingram Street Glasgow. He died suddenly on 14 April 1932 and was buried in the Martin family grave in Tayport Old Churchyard. The funeral was never paid for and his grave is unmarked, without a tombstone. Tayport Harbour was arguably the world's first roll on roll off ferry crossing the Tay at Tayport and over to Broughty Ferry. The current harbour was rebuilt 1847 by the Edinburgh and Northern Railway as a basin formed by a pier and two quays; it was the terminus of the ferry to Broughty Ferry which served to complete the link up of the east coast railway between Edinburgh and Aberdeen. The harbour fell into disuse for that purpose when the first Tay Rail bridge was built but was then brought back into use as a rail ferry link when the first Tay bridge was destroyed in a storm in 1879. The Harbour was eventually taken over by a Timber processing company, Donaldsons of Tayport, and was used by cargo boats of up to 3000 tons carrying potatoes, grain, esparto grass and timber until the 1980s when the timber firm began to wind down its operation.

Newhailes, Musselburgh, Scotland
Newhailes is an amazing survival story and is a dignified 17th-century home in authentic condition. Rather than attempt to re-create an immaculate dwelling, the NationalTrust has worked hard to keep the house untouched by modern hands. If you're hungry for Scottish history, Newhailes features prominently in the Scottish Enlightenment. The 18th-century designed landscape surrounding the house holds a few surprises of its own. Newhailes is a truly unique place to visit
