Gili Trawangan | How to Get to Gili Islands from Bali - a Video Guide
This video guide to GILI TRAWANGAN will show you how to get to Gili Trawangan, or Gili T as it is affectionately known, and an idea of what to expect when you get there. This Bali video will be helpful for anyone planing a trip to Bali in Indonesia and thinking of visiting the Gili Islands, and for those of you who have already visited Gili Trawangan and the GIli Islands I hope it brings back fond memories.
The Gili Islands of Bali in Indonesia are made up of Gili Trawangan, Gili Air and Gili Meno, with Gili Trawangan being the most popular for tourists to stay on. All three Gili islands can be visited on day trips from Bali main island. To get to the Gili Islands, or to Lombok, you take the boat from Padang Bai which is about 90 minutes drive from Kuta.
My Bali Guide Series will include my top things to do and places to visit in Bali, still to come will be more about things to do on Gili Trawangan as well as visiting the remaining Gili Islands (Gili Air and Gili Meno), a day in Ubud, visiting temples, rice terraces and lots more beaches around Bali.
The first video in this series was my arrival on Bali and can be found here:

What to Eat in Lombok & Gili Trawangan ? | Must Try Food | Halal | Indonesia
There’s variety of Food options available @ Lombok & Gili Islands.
Its easy to find Halal food as majority of people there are Muslims.
However for restaurants, you need to check the Menu just to be sure that the food is Halal as some restaurants does serve pork as the owner might not be a Muslim.
Bali to Lombok Bluewater Express Ferry Tour | DirectFerries.com Review
Taking the ferry from Padangbai Bali to Lombok or Gilis Island is definitely the best and fastest way to travel, and much more convenient than flying. For me, I found DirectFerries.com to be the best as you can quickly compare the most trusted ferry companies from one single website (like Bluewater Express which is who I travelled with!). I found them via DirectFerries.co.uk at first but it looks like they have websites in 25 or 30 different languages covering Europe, USA, Asia, Africa as well as the rest of the world. And their call centres have friendly customer service agents who I was told speak 16 different languages including English, French, Italian, German, Danish, Spanish, Dutch, Polish, Norwegian, Swedish, Japanese, Chinese, Portuguese, Check, Slovak and Greek and more!
I travelled from Bali to Lombok on Bluewater Express and found the check-in insanely fast and the staff really friendly. We all had arrived early so it was cool because we actually departed early as well. There was a storm from Taiwan and Hong Kong affecting the choppiness of the water so the staff asked us to stay below deck for most of the ride to ensure our safety, something you'd really appreciate if you Google some of the other ferry companies and the number of fatalities the less reputable companies have each year. They provide cold water, a cold towel prior to disembarking, there is a very clean loo, and they even sell Bintang for 40k, which I thought was great!
The total trip takes 1.5 hours with Blue Water Express and I highly recommend them, booking via DirectFerries.com though. Bluewater Express called the day before to confirm our check-in time for the ferry and ask if I had any questions, which was a nice value-added service I thought. I did communicate originally with both Bluewater Express and DirectFerries.com and Direct Ferries replied much quicker to each of my queries. For that reason and because of their multi-language service and flexibility with being able to change my ticket, I recommend them as the absolute best choice.
For more information or to book your ferry journey, visit the Direct Ferries website:

BEWARE!!!!! If you travel from Padangbai, once you enter town there are very large men who are incredibly aggressive who seem like quasi-police who tried to force our driver to pull over and make us go into a building that undoubtedly sold ferry tickets, telling us we must check in there. If we hadn't been on the phone at that exact moment with the Bluewater Express team who shared with us how to find their office and told us NOT to stop, we probably would have because they seemed so official (and extremely scary, which I don't normally scare easily).

ISLAND LIFE | 3 days in Gili Air | Sunrise SUP | Freediving | Bali Getaway
The Gili Islands has to be one of the most laid back and relaxed towns we've ever been to. From the Zero motorized vehicles to the chickens walking around in your back yard and enjoying the sunset lounging around on a bean bag on the beach, it has a very chilled out and easy-going vibe. We really took on the island life this trip and we enjoyed every moment on Gili Air.
We take you along our 3-day stay on Gili Air as we relax and do a couple activities we've never done before, stand up paddleboarding and free diving. Gili Air is definitely the type of place where you try things for the first time with confidence and ease.
If you've never done stand up paddleboarding, we had a terrific experience with our guide Declan. Fun guy, very patient with the newbies over here, great convo and best of all we got to take in a sunrise in a pretty epic way. We thoroughly enjoyed our sunrise stand up Paddleboarding experience with Blue marine dive. You can contact Blue Marine Dive to plan your SUP session through WhatsApp here +6285338843596.
As for freediving, we could not be more excited to share the contact info for Freedive Flow. We had an amazing experience with them and can not recommend them enough! With the 1 day introductory course we were able to learn a lot, experience our first open water session and get excited to continue with freediving. If you have the time, we would definitely recommend a full certification. Next time we're on Gili Air you can bet you'll find us here!
Their WhatsApp contact info +628113981166 and their website:
The boat transfer we used from Padang Bai to Gili was Eka Jaya fast boats. Most boats pick you up from your hotel in Bali.

Bali to Lombok Speed Boat Journey I Bali Tour Guide
Please enable 'Captions' from options to see the 'subtitles'
This video is all about how we made Bali to Lombok Speed Boat journey. This was an indescribable experience (in Bali tour guide videos) that cannot be expressed in words. You will come to know how to go to Lombok from Kuta.
The deep blue sea of Indonesia gave a mesmerizing memory. We stayed at North West coast of the Lombok Island.
The great Pink Beach, Indonesia is on the south coast of Lombok. I suggest not to travel to Lombok by flight from Kuta, Bali (Denpasar Airport) If you do not want to miss the happening experience.

Use Grab Bali, Not Taxis | Cheapest Airport Transfer, Better Than Uber, Private Driver
If you're looking for the best and cheapest way to travel in style during your stay on Bali, look no further than your phone and the app Grab. I've been a huge fan since I first moved to Malaysia earlier this year. I use their service Grab Car instead of taxis almost daily in Kuala Lumpur, I've used their drivers the couple of times I've travelled to Singapore, and I used Grab Car instead of taxis or Uber exclusively during my recent month in Bali. From the airport to Jimbaran, in and around Seminyak, from the Sheraton in Kuta to Ubud, and from The Mulia near Uluwatu to the ferry port in Padangbai. They offer the cheapest rides to and and from Denpasar's International airport and their drivers are kind and keep new, well-maintained vehicles.
For copy/paste instructions to share with the driver in Bahasa to tips on using the Grab app all around Bali (including IMPORTANT how-to instructions for flawless airport pick-ups and drop-offs), visit my full review:

There are fast boats between Bali and Lembongan islands. But embarkation and disembarkation is not sometimes easy because of strong winds and large waves.
Bali Trip 2016 - Go Pro - Ubud, Gili Islands, Rinjani and more!
A videoblog of our 2 week trip to Indonesia. Amazing time :)
A little description and tips of our trip in order of appearance of the video:
- Sunset Hill Resort (We stayed there 2 nights, about 10km from Ubud city where all rice fields are. Incredible views and very relaxing)
- Karsa SPA (Ranked #1 in TripAdvisor as best SPA in Ubud, about 200 metres from Sunset Hill Resort. Recommended 100% but make sure you make an appointment as they are always very busy)
- Ubud City (We stayed in Teja Homestay for 4 nights, a beautiful place in the city centre of Ubud)
- Monkey Forest - ( in the main city of Ubud, about 20mins walking from our homestay)
- Tegenungan Waterfalls, Padang Padang Beach and Uluwatu Temple (We hired a all day taxi to drive us to the South side of Bali. Make sure you arrive on time to see the sunset in Uluwatu Temple. Worth it)
- Mt.Batour (We did a sunrise trecking. They picked us at 2:00am in our homestay in Ubud. Started the trekk at 4:00am and reached summit at 6:00am. Later they take you for a coffee tasting in the coffee fields close to Batur area and they drop you back to the hotel around 3:00pm. Very easy trekk, cheap and worth it 100%,. Stunning views)
- Gili Air (We stayed there 5 nights in 3 different resorts. Recommended the snorkeling tour, they take you in boat through the best snorkeling spots of the 3 islands. Also recommend a restaurant called Mowies, excellent food in the best side of the island to see the sunset)
- Rinjani trekking (a 3 day/2 night trekk. They drive you up to 1100m to start the trekk. First day you walk up to base camp 1 at 2600m (8 hours trekk). Next day you start at 2:00am up to the summit, back to base camp 1, down to the big lake to the hot springs for a swim and up again to the other side of the mountain (around 12h trekk and exhausting). Last day you start at 7:00am way back to the closest town where they pick you up and they drive you to the hotel arriving around 1:00pm (6h trekk). Extremly hard the last bit to the summit, but recommended 10000%,. Best thing I did in the whole trip.
EXTRA TIPS:
- When you arrive to the airport in Denpasar, avoid the big crowd of annoying taxi drivers, just walk out the airport and negotiate the price there, you will save a lot of money,
- If you are staying more than 10 days, I recommend you to get an Indonesian SIM card, WiFi in Indonesia is crap in most of the places and wont cost you more than 300.000 rupias (20 USD) with enough data for all your stay. You can get one in the airport
- If you are planning to visit Bali in low season, I suggest you to dont book any hotel. You can negotiate price even in the hotels saving a lot of money and no worries they wont be fully booked (Specially in Gili Islands). The only hotel we booked was the Sunset Hill Resort because they only have 4 bungalows.
- Dont take drugs guys! Indonesia has death penalty and you can go to jail very easily
- Negotiate EVERYTHING! They love to negotiate with turists and I personally love it too :P
Hope you enjoyed the video and I encourage you to visit this amazing country :)
