Bonito Mato Grosso do Sul Brazil Ecotourism Destination
An ecotourism destination located in Bonito - Mato Grosso do Sul - Brazil, well known for its singular beauties such as caves, waterfalls, springs and wild life!
Bonito, Mother Nature's Playground - Travel Deeper Brazil (Ep. 11)
Bonito, Brazil - presents a weekend in the beautiful natural playground of Bonito, Brazil.
When I asked Brazilian friends on places I should visit while traveling in southwestern Brazil, the overwhelming response was always Bonito.
The small town of just over 17,000 people is tucked away in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul and is one of the most popular Brazilian tourist destinations in the region.
Famous for its abundance of natural beauty, including wildlife, waterfalls and crystal-clear rivers, Bonito, is one of the best outdoor adventure spots I've ever visited.
On day one I rented a bike from town and road through the countryside to two different eco parks, Porto da Ilha and Balneário do sol. Freshwater pools connecting to small waterfalls and numerous activities makes these spots the perfect relaxing day trip.
That evening I ventured over to the Brazilian Rodeo at the Clubes de Laço (lasso club) just outside Bonito to experience a different aspect of Brazilian culture.
The next morning I drove over to Recanto Ecologico Rio da Prata (The Silver River Ecological Reserve) to snorkel the beautiful transparent water teaming with aquatic life.
From there we went to Buraco das Araras (Sinkhole of the Macaws) to witness hundreds of Macaws and other exotic birds fly around the giant redrock hole in the ground.
That night I experienced the quiet and lovely downtown Bonito and drank some locally brewed cachaca at the popular Taboa.
Needless to say, it was a great weekend in Bonito, Brazil and I can't wait to come back again soon.

Other top things to do in Bonito that I missed: Abismo Anhumas, Lagoa Misteriosa, Boca da Onca Waterfall, Aquario Natural, Rio do Peixe, Rio Sucuri, Gruta do Lago Azul and Parque das Cachoeiras to name a few.

Visit Magnificent Caiman Ecological Refuge Pantanal, Brazil
Private and luxurious Caiman Ecological Refuge is located on thousands of acres within the Pantanal. The world's largest wetland. Stays include three meals a day, game drives, unlimited water and soft drinks. People come from all over the world to see (hopefully) jaguars, birds and other animals.
Four Canadians, four Brazilians, and two English stayed in Baiazinha Lodge along with us during our three night stay. Please watch the videos to see what we saw on this adventure... Incredible!
Introduction to the Pantanal
Introduction to the Pantanal
In this video I give you a brief introduction of the wildlife haven known as the Pantanal.
During summer Brazil's Pantanal turns into the world's largest wetland, largely fed by the mighty Amazon itself. It's home to an incredible array of wild wonders, none more sought after than the impressive Jaguar.
Enjoy this brief introduction into the wild wet Pantanal.

Caiman Ecological Refuge, Pantanal, Brazil - Jaguar female (Gatuna) 2019 Jul. 17
We saw a beautiful female Jaguar Gatuna, looking for her cub (Victory, a male) during a morning game drive with Onçafari, a conservation initiative that aims to promote ecotourism, especially wildlife watching, in the Pantanal (Brazil) by habituating Jaguars in order for people to witness the behavior of these animals, from a vehicle, while on safari. This took place at Caiman Ecological Refuge in the Southern Pantanal region of Brazil.

MATO GROSSO 03 ECOSYSTEMS Amazon + Savannah + Pantanal
Mato Grosso is the only state in Brazil that holds within its borders three Ecosystems almost equidistant from its capital, Cuiabá, and its respective airport. This program provides the visitor with the opportunity of visiting the Pantanal (100 km South), the Savanna Tablelands (60 km towards Northeast), and the Amazon Rain Forest (290 km towards North), comprising 1,050 km of true photo-safari without wasting time with flights and airports.
The mythical Amazon can only be described in superlatives. It covers an area of more than 5 millions square kilometers of which 80% is on Brazilian territory and those spread in 8 States, one of which is the State of Mato Grosso. It is the largest and most intact rain forest region in the world. Through this large area, flows an extensive drainage system of more than a thousand rivers, which account for 20% of the world's fresh surface water.
The heartland of Brazil covers an area equal to Western Europe (2,000,000 sq km), and its original vegetation is called CERRADO, considered the richest savanna in the world, due to its high plant diversity and endemism. Most of Brazil's big rivers find their sources here. It's an area of enormous ecological importance with many areas of spectacular beauty, such as the National Park of Chapada dos Guimarães, only 55km North East from Cuiabá airport. Its biodiversity includes: 837 birds species, 161 mammals, 120 reptiles and over 10.000 vascular plants from which 44% are endemic.
The Pantanal, one of the last great wildernesses, is the largest contiguous wetland on the planet, declared a World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, its South America's primary wildlife sanctuary. With a total area of 240,000 sq km located in the center of the continent, the Pantanal is a biogeographic mixing bowl, containing elements of the Amazon and Atlantic Rainforests, the Brazilian Savannah and the Paraguayan Chaco. This fantastic biodiversity includes: 698 birds species, 100 mammals, 177 reptiles, 40 amphibians and over 250 fish species.

Bonito - Brazil - beautiful nature
In the southwest of Brazil, not far from the border with Paraguay, Bonito is located in a beautiful natural landscape. Bonito is the starting point to the near sights. Who plans a visit of the Pantanal, should not miss the trip to Bonito.
The Gruta do Lago Azul, the Cave of the Blue Lake, is a popular tourist destination. It goes down over serpentine steps to a beautiful landscape of bright cave formations and deep blue water.
The main attractions of Bonito are the nearby rivers. Crystal clear filtered water, which is pressed through limestone formations, comes to the surface. A limited number of tourists can daily drift in this fish-rich rivers. An unforgettable experience.
Day 19-21: (xx+) Corumbá/Pantanal, Brazil (Januar 2013)
Day 19-21: Corumba/Pantanal, Brazil (Januar 2013)
My rating: Could be kind of fine. But gadventures didn't make much out of it. Or better - our tour guide wasn't much of a help. And the group itself started to become boring and sometimes even nasty ... Bonito: Just skip it ...
Bonito, as the name (beautiful) implies, is a great place for nature lovers. Just outside the Pantanal area, this is water and jungle country with abundant colourful fish in the area's crystalline rivers. Explore nearby underwater caves and waterfalls, go rafting or snorkelling, or simply spend a lazy day by the river.
