Thousands of well-wishers on Sunday thronged to Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport to welcome and escort Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II to his palace.The emir, who returned from London, is reportedly facing persecution by the state government over his alleged support to opposition PDP governorship candidate.Earlier in the afternoon, thugs allegedly loyal to the state government dispersed a gathering of youths planning to march to the airport. But the supporters of the emir later defied the threats and reassembled to show solidarity.

Ado Bayero (1930-2014): Emir Of Kano Buried
One of Nigeria's foremost Traditional Rulers, the Emir of Kano has died at the age of 83.
Alhaji Ado Bayero died as a result of long illness, at about 12 midnight.
On many occasion, the Emir was rushed abroad for treatment and was some time ago attacked by suspected Boko Haram members but escaped unhurt, a source at the Kano palace said.
He is to be buried in Kano today (Friday) according Islamic rites.

As part of the activities to mark the Eid-el-Kabir, the Kano Emirate Council on Monday held the traditional Hawan Daushe Durbar celebrations in Kano.
The event which attracted several expatriates living in Nigeria held at the outer court of the Emir of Palace in Kano. The durbar attracted thousands of the city’s residents and it brought out the rich cultural history of the Kano emirate.
According to historians at the event, Hawan Daushe Durbar was introduced to the emirate in the 1400s during the reign of Muhammadu Rumfa.
During the durbar, the emir rides on horseback while receiving homage from all the District heads in the emirate.

New Kano Emir Mohammadu Sanusi II Moves Into Palace
The new Emir Of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has arrived in the Emir's Palace Six days after His Nomination to succeed the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, who died seven days ago.
On Thursday, Mobile Police Men who were previously directed to siege the palace for security reasons were withdrawn which eventually paved the way for the new emir to move in.
The half kilometre drive from the Government House to the emir's Palace on Friday was smooth, as a large crowd followed the procession to the palace.
