Chengde (承德) - Temple Hopping
Located just a few hours northeast of Beijing is the city of Chengde in Hebei province. During the Qing Dynasty, the Emperor would come here to escape from the heat of Beijing. One particular Emperor - Qianlong - had two incredible temples built here. One is a replica of the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet, and the other was built especially for his 70th birthday and a visiting Panchen Lama.

Sights in China - Puning Temple
The Puning Temple (Chinese: 普宁寺; pinyin: Pǔníng Sì; literally: Temple of Universal Peace), commonly called the Big Buddha Temple,[1] is a Buddhist temple complex in Chengde, Hebei province, China. It was built in 1755 during the reign of the Qianlong Emperor in the Qing dynasty as a sign of the Qing Empire's reverence for Tibetan Buddhism. It is located near the Chengde Mountain Resort, and alongside the equally famed Putuo Zongcheng Temple, it is one of the Eight Outer Temples of Chengde. Much how the Putuo Zongcheng Temple was modeled after the Potala Palace in Lhasa, the Puning Temple was modeled after the Samye Monastery, the sacred Lamaist site in Tibet. The front temple was constructed in the Chinese style, although the temple complex follows both Chinese and Tibetan architectural styles. The Puning Temple also houses the world's tallest wooden sculpture of the bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara (22.28-meter-high and 110-ton),[2][3] hence the Puning Temple is often nicknamed the Big Buddha Temple. The complex features temple halls, pavilions, drum towers and bell towers. More Info Visit:

White Emperor City
White Emperor City is located at the northern bank of the Yangtze River in Fengjie City. It is said that a general called Gongsun Shu set up a regime in Sichuan. One day, he came here and saw white fog rising from a well in the city, which looks like a white dragon. Thus, he named himself White Emperor and the city, White Emperor City. In 36 A.D., Gongsun Shu was defeated by Liu Xiu, the founder of the Eastern Han Dynasty. The locals built the White Emperor Temple in the city to commemorate Gongsun Shu
In the Three Kingdoms Period, Liu Bei, the king of the Shu, was defeated by the Wu kingdom and fell back to the White Emperor City. He was badly ill and entrusted his son to his prime minister, Zhuge Liang.
In the Ming Dynasty, the statue of Gongsun Shu in the White Emperor Temple was replaced by the statues of Liu Bei and his two sworn brothers Guan Yu and Zhang Fei. Since then, this temple has become a place to commemorate Liu Bei, Guanyu and Zhang Fei. However, the temple's name has remained till now.

Shanghai (Chinese: 上海, Mandarin pronunciation: [ʂâŋ.xài] (listen), Wu pronunciation: [zɑ̃.hɛ] (listen)) is one of the four municipalities under the direct administration of the central government of the People's Republic of China, the largest city in China by population, and the second most populous city proper in the world, with a population of 24.18 million as of 2017. It is a global financial centre and transport hub, with the world's busiest container port. Located in the Yangtze River Delta, it sits on the south edge of the estuary of the Yangtze in the middle portion of the East China coast. The municipality borders the provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang to the north, south and west, and is bounded to the east by the East China Sea.As a major administrative, shipping and trading city, Shanghai grew in importance in the 19th century due to trade and recognition of its favourable port location and economic potential. The city was one of five treaty ports forced open to foreign trade following the British victory over China in the First Opium War. The subsequent 1842 Treaty of Nanking and 1844 Treaty of Whampoa allowed the establishment of the Shanghai International Settlement and the French Concession. The city then flourished as a centre of commerce between China and other parts of the world (predominantly the Occident), and became the primary financial hub of the Asia-Pacific region in the 1930s. However, with the Communist Party takeover of the mainland in 1949, trade was limited to other socialist countries, and the city's global influence declined. In the 1990s, the economic reforms introduced by Deng Xiaoping resulted in an intense re-development of the city, aiding the return of finance and foreign investment to the city. It has since re-emerged as a hub for international trade and finance; it is the home of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, one of the world's largest by market capitalization.Shanghai has been described as the showpiece of the booming economy of mainland China; renowned for its Lujiazui skyline, and museums and historic buildings, such as those along The Bund, as well as the City God Temple and the Yu Garden.
