never-ending story(318) - queenstown, tasmania jan 2016
not all that glitters is gold
=====================
queenstown, a small town in the west coast of tasmania, thrived in the turn of 1900 out of mining.
it was already past 8 at night after they checked into the west coastal motel. the motel's counter was closing and the in-house eating hall had shut down at 5pm. stepping into the town, the main street was deserted, empire hotel sat right on one end of the street.
the oasis restaurant, the only restaurant in town open until 9pm, was in the hotel. the food were good. somehow he got a feeling that this town was like an oasis, a little corner in the vast stretch of 'desert' - the eroded landscape of the surrounding area told a story of years of mining the region had gone thru. now the precious metal had gone, the empire hotel which saw better days when it was erected in the 1901, could only reminisce its past like what's said in the LI GUA.
LI could mean beautiful, with another meaning of pairing.
30. LI GUA
LI, beauty. he who perseveres prevails. keeping cows is auspicious
- australia is a beautiful country, its mining industry is in decline, so farming is still a better way going forward.
1st-9: the shoes are gold plated. treat him with respect and caution, no guilt.
- queenstown thrived on gold mining.
6-2: beauty in the colour yellow. very auspicious
- yellow is the colour of gold, and copper. queenstown thrived on gold and copper mining.
WANGLI[黃離] could also mean a kind of bird.
- but like a bird, prosperity could fly away.
9-3: the beauty of the setting sun, if not accompanied by the beating of pots and songs, only to wait in vain for old age and death to arrive. that is regretful. not a good omen
- the mining industry, though brought great wealth to this town, it lasted only for a short while. but during the peak period of its glory, people should just enjoy their wealth...
9-4: the sudden outbreak of fire stunts everybody. looks like no way out from this fiery catastrophe.
- this happens not only in tasmania. bush fires are rampant in many parts of australia. yet the government still insists on going ahead with all sorts of anti-environemntal policies, the situation will push the country into a biblical inferno.
6-5: weeping with much tears and nasal mucus, anxious and sighing. auspicious
- if the government and the people still retain a figment conscience to befriend the environment, it will be a good thing.
top-9: go to war under the order of the emperor, that's commendable. capture the enemy's chief, who is from a different tribe, no guilt.
- in this YAO, it summarises the history of the whole australia. australia under the british empire, invaded the land which belong to the aborigines. capturing their elders is commendable in the view of the british. and until now, not much guilt felt by the invaders.
..........
they said, not all that glitters is gold. but she once said, not all that's rich is a goldmine.
he asked her why. she said, wealth is not gold to me, only wisdom is.
that's why he hang on to her, a wonderful, gorgeous and intelligent lady, though he's neither rich, handsome, nor tall. until one day she said to him, not all who thinks he's wise is wise.....

Davis jury to start deliberations on Thursday
The jury in the Marie Davis murder trial in Christchurch has decided to start their deliberations on Thursday.
Road worker Dean Cameron is accused of raping and murdering the 15-year-old in April last year.
On Wednesday morning the jury heard the defence closing argument and the judge did his summing up after lunch.
In his closing address, Crown prosecutor Chris Lange reminded the jury that there had been no sign of forced entry to Marie's house in Morrison Avenue on the night she disappeared. He said it seemed she must have let someone she knew into the house.
Spots of Cameron's blood were found on the floor of the study where she had been using the computer that night, and his DNA was found in semen on swabs taken from her body, Lange said.
He reiterated that there was no evidence to link anyone else to the crime. He also said there was no evidence that Marie was at any risk of suicide.
The lawyer for Cameron, however says the only safe verdict, is not guilty.
This is plainly a tragedy, but tragedy is not relieved by an unjust verdict....the harm the net result to the community is worse than before, says Defence Counsel, Frank Hogan.
Hogan says the case against his client is only circumstantial, and says Cameron must have been mistaken when he said he'd never been to Davis's house, as spots of his blood were found there.
The schoolgirl's body was found on the banks of the Waimakariri River two weeks after she disappeared.
Cameron was eventually charged with her rape and murder. Cameron was known to Marie because he was related to a friend of hers.

The Shadow Chasers conducted an investigation of the historic Western Town Hall in Westernville, NY. The team conducted a full site analysis with a variety of technology.
The former grand Empire Hotel from the village of Delta is now known as Liberty Hall in the town of Western. While the hotel may now bear little resemblance to the former hotel it’s history is not lost as reports of ghostly echos of past events fill late nights in the empty hall.
