Castell de Sant Ferran or The Saint Ferdinand Fortress –Sant Ferran Castle–
is situated on a hill in Figueres It is a large military fortress built in the
eighteenth century and is the largest monument in terms of area in Catalonia
and the largest bastion fort in Europe.

Figueres is the capital of the comarca of Alt Empordà, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain. Figueres is also the birthplace of Narcís Monturiol, inventor of the first successful machine-powered submarine. Also born here was Mónica Naranjo, one of the best selling Spanish singers of the 1990s and 2000s.
Figueres name derives from that of Ficaris, of Visigoth origins. In 1267, King James I of Aragon conceded it fuero rights, but four years later count Ponç IV of Empúries set the town on fire. During the Spanish Civil War, Figueres remained loyal to the Republican government, and was repeatedly bombed by the rebels. Figueres recovered starting from the 1950s, consolidating its economy around the tourism industry.

It is also served by its own railway station just east of the old town center. Figueres has been connected since December 2010 to the high-speed rail network with the start of services connecting Figueres to Perpignan via LGV, allowing direct TGV services to Paris in 5 h 27 min. Connections to Madrid-Barcelona via AVE began on 8 January 2013 and the trip takes 53 min (12 min to Girona).

Figueres (Castilian: Figueras) is the capital of the comarca (district) of Alt Empordà, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain.
The town was the birthplace of artist Salvador Dalí, and houses the Teatre-Museu Gala Salvador Dalí, a large museum designed by Dalí himself which attracts many visitors. It was also the birthplace of Narcís Monturiol i Estarriol, inventor of the first combustion powered submarine and anaerobic engine.
The city is twinned with Perpignan (Pyrénées Orientales), just over the Pyrenees in France.

The Toy Museum of Catalonia would like to invite you on a journey through the history of the toys of your childhood, or the one of your grandparents, great-grandparents, or even the one of your children: model theatres, cardboard horses, make-believe kitchens, Meccano sets, balls, dolls, spinning tops, clockwork tin toys, cars, aeroplanes, Scalextric sets, trains, toys for the blind, children's scooters, tricycles, teddy bears, goose games, trams, model circuses, puppets, packs of cards, robots, sailing ships and many of the other fondly-remembered toys that engrossed and captured your imagination during the playtimes of your childhood.
The Museum has a collection of more than 10,000 toys, 5,000 of which are on display. Amongst them, you will find toys that used to belong to Salvador Dalí and his siter Anna Maria, to Federico García Lorca, Joan Miró, Joan Brossa, Quim Monzó, Ernest Lluch, Antoni Tàpies, Salvador Puig Antich, Pascal Comelade, Terenci Moix, Frederic Amat, and Pere Casaldàliga, amongst others.
The Museum also has a special section devoted to the first twenty years of Salvador Dalí's life, containing his toys, moving postcards and photographs from his family album.
