STV One And All
The voyage over to Encounter Bay, meeting up with another tall ship (the HMB Endeavour) will be a special one. Full of adventure, discovery, history and the amazing South Australia's coast line, this is one voyage you will not want to miss. Did I mention that Encounter Bay will also play host to the two tall ships re-enacting the meeting between Flinders and Baudin? Once in a life time experience. It's time to go sailing.
Railways of South Australia: Steam on the Cockle Train
Over the easter holidays, Steamranger Heritage Railway operated an extended cockle train service between Goolwa and Victor Harbor with restored North British built 4-6-0 steam locomotive Rx207 and Brill railcar No 60.
This video features the steam action with Rx207 hauling a four car train (two centenary cars and two centre loaders) on the Cockle Train at various points along the line. The scenic section between Pt Elliot and Victor Harbor is the line's drawcard and therefore features in this video.

Whales of Encounter Bay 2SR Rosetta Wharf & The Bluff 2016 0730 v2
The Victor Harbor Dolphin Survey is conducted every month by a volunteer group of concerned naturalists and keen photographers/videographers to record and identify the location, movement and behaviour of the dolphins that reside in, and visit, Encounter Bay.
May to October is Whale Season and many of the Dolphin Survey participants are also registered Whale Spotters for the SA Whale Centre.
On this particular outing, as the Big Duck drifted toward The Bluff on the tide, a pair of courting Southern Right Whales passed between the boat and the old wharf jetty to the delight of keen spectators on both vantage points.
The producer of the video anticipated the path of the whales and captured clips on both the Eastern side and then from Southern tip of The Bluff.
The dolphin survey is sponsored by Fleurieu Marine Life and the Big Duck Tours.
Data, images and details are supplied to the SA Museum for research.

South Australian Steam: 520 SteamRanger
a segment from an old VHS I have had since I was a kid.
The documentary was called South Australian Steam and it was made around the late 80's / early 90's.
this clip covers a race between 520 and a group of marathon runners from Mitcham to Belair.
Return of SteamRanger's F Class 251
The re-commissioning of ex SAR suburban tank locomotive F251 not only marked an end for Steamranger at Dry Creek, but also marked an end for broad gauge steam tours originating out of the suburban area. Built in 1922, F251 served the railways of South Australia until 30th May 1963 when she was retired to an Elizabeth West shopping centre car park. On the 2nd September 1981 the locomotive was moved to Dry Creek depot by road, where it then lay dormant awaiting a miracle to return it to service. Fourteen years later on 23rd July 1995, F251 was re-commissioned in front of a large crowd in the Adelaide Railway Yards under Morphett Street bridge. Having been re-commissioned, F251 pushed its train back into platform one and filled its cars with VIP's for her maiden run to Blackwood. Pouring rain didn't have any effect on the loco as she steamed uphill. On its return to Adelaide, she took up duties, operating two trains to different suburban locations each Sunday. I was lucky enough to travel behind her on a history making run - the first steam locomotive to run to Noarlunga centre. By the time that F251 was to be moved to Goolwa, it was found that standardization was complete and the loco was moved by road to Strathalbyn. The centenary cars also eventually being moved by road, and marking the end of an era for broad gauge steam in the suburbs. On its transferral to Goolwa, F251 took up duties as the only operational steam locomotive in the Steamranger fleet after both Rx207 and Rx224 were taken to Mount Barker for heavy overhaul and 621 and 520 were also out of service due to mechanical problems. F251 claimed honours, being the first steam locomotive to haul a train out of Mount Barker, following the relocation to Mt.Barker from Adelaide. She then took up duties hauling the Highlander from Mt.Barker to Strathalbyn and the Cockle train along the south coast. Currently F251 is at Mount Barker in need of work on a very delicate firebox plate.
