ERNIE'S BAR by Mike Boldt
Bad weather forced us off The Perch and into ERNIES BAR at the Crockett Hotel. It seemed fitting that since we all spent so much time there Ernie's should have it's own song. Thanks Ned.

The Crockett Hotel, San Antonio Review
On this episode of Where She Stayed, come explore the Crockett Hotel with me. Centrally located in San Antonio, Texas this historic hotel is named after the man himself, Davy Crockett. Davy Crockett, the king of the wild frontier died in 1836 at the battle of the Alamo at the Alamo right next door to where the Crockett Hotel now stands.
The hotel features nice and comfortable rooms with breakfast included each morning with bonus, Texas shaped waffles. On property there is also an outdoor pool to cool off in on hot Texas days as well as a lobby bar. For gym access and more amenities check out their partner hotel the Menger across the street.
The Crockett Hotel is located right next to the Alamo, the starting point for the Hop on, Hop off buses, the visitor information center, the Rivercenter Mall and is only a 4 minute walk from the city's famous River Walk.
If you find yourself visiting San Antonio I definitely recommend staying at the Crockett Hotel.

ALAMO: A SACRIFICE ON FREEDOM'S ALTAR Mike Boldt & Glenn Effler
As the State of Texas and the City of San Antonio contemplate the relevant history of the Alamo, its story, and how to best interpret it, we seek to remind those viewing this video of what it is that makes the Alamo so important to our American story. It also reminds us why millions of passionate people across the nation and around the world revere and remember the 13-day siege and battle.
The name Alamo has long been synonymous with courage and self-sacrifice, attributes that we admire and that inspire us. For many, these qualities define the noblest persona of the hero, and of the true American character. The venerated story of the Alamo is a tale of ordinary folk who put themselves in harm's way for the principles of Duty-Honor-Country, and for a cause greater than themselves - the cause of liberty.

A Different Kind of Force—Policing Mental Illness | NBC Left Field
Law enforcement officers are increasingly the first responders to incidents involving people with mental illness. Without proper training and expertise, confrontations taking place amid an already-charged atmosphere can escalate quickly, often leading to the injury or death of the individual with mental illness. This concern and numerous high-profile police shootings involving unarmed individuals in a mental health crisis have prompted renewed debates about policing the mentally ill. In the San Antonio Police Department, a special plainclothes unit is trained specifically to handle mental health calls. For several weeks, we followed the 10-person unit to see firsthand how the program operates. One of the calls the unit received during this time was from Martha Remmey, the mother of a young man with schizophrenia who appeared unable to distinguish what was real and what wasn’t. Martha, who’s called the police on her son Christopher multiple times, is torn between wanting to get help for her son and fearing one of his confrontations with the police will turn deadly. In Houston, we meet with Marketta Thomas-Smith, who is mourning her brother Danny Ray Thomas. In March 2018, a sheriff’s deputy encountered Thomas in the middle of a Houston road. Thirty-four-year-old Thomas was unarmed and visibly in distress, walking with his pants around his ankles. But the deputy said Thomas ignored his commands and acted aggressively toward him, so he shot him once in the chest. As Marketta continues to grieve, she is also seeking justice for her brother. A Different Kind of Force—Policing Mental Illness offers an unflinching look at the crisis in the U.S. mental health system today by exploring the complex and often fraught relationship between the mentally ill and law enforcement.
UPDATE: On Aug. 8, Cameron Brewer, the former Harris County Sheriff's deputy, was found not guilty in the fatal shooting of Danny Ray Thomas.

Jay Nash - Barcelona | Showcasing Artist 2016 | SXSW
Jay Nash’s music is like the river that raised him—strong and deep, with a little bit of lullaby and a big damn current. Twenty years ago, he played loud in bars along the Saint Lawrence River, in the reaches of New York so far-flung they’re almost Canadian. For the last decade, he’s journeyed the US and Europe solo, selling over 60,000 records without ever putting ink on a conventional record deal. Now in the green mountains, the quiet cold of winter rarefies wit and musicianship into the kind of Americana that knows where it comes from.

Charlotte at Brackettville by Mike Boldt
Nancy and I met some wonderful people on our visit to The Alamo in San Antonio, Texas this past March. While sitting at The Perch, we had the pleasure to meet Mo Jones his wife Gill and their daughter Charlotte from Wales. Since then, Mo and I have corresponded frequently, and I promised him I would write a song for Charlotte. So here it is, Sgt. Major Jones. I hope this brings back wonderful memories of your trip to Texas and The Alamo. By the way, this may be the only song ever written with the word Wayneamo in it.
CHARLOTTE AT BRACKETTVILLE
Mike Boldt
There's so many things that we all want to do
And there's so many things that we just want to say
And the distance between them sometimes stands in the way.
And this time I said we all must go
Me and Gill and Charlotte so.
We left our home to fly to the Alamo
We packed our bags and boarded the plane
That took us thousands of miles to the U.S. of A.
And we touched down in San Antone on a beautiful day.
We all got to the Perch to see our friends
There's John and Sue, Jeffery and Ned
Larry and Shell and too many more to say
(Chorus)
And I simply had to cry, and no matter how I tried
I can never forget the thrill, of Charlotte at Brackettville
A group of us all decided to go
Down to Brackettville, Texas to the Wayneamo
You could feel the excitement cracklin in the air
And Rich was our guide; he showed us around
From the old fortress to the Western town
Then Charlotte looked at me and started to smile
The two of us stood by the chapel wall
I guess I never noticed that she'd grown so tall
She said the words that really hit me home
She said, Dad, you made it and I am here
and so is Mum and it was so clear
She gave me a hug and I wiped away my tear
(Chorus)
Bridge- The Stars were shining bright, on that Texas night (repeat)
She said, Dad, you made it and I am here
and so is Mum and it was so clear
(Chorus
