Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal With Tsum Valley - 2019
The Manaslu Circuit and Tsum Valley is a trek in Nepal, which reaches an altitude of 5,100m at Larke Pass through the base of Mount Manaslu, the 8th highest mountain in the world. These unspoiled mountain valleys feature a mix of raw Himalayan nature and ancient Buddhist culture, with Manaslu and Tsum Valley offering the most striking and jaw-dropping scenery of the entire Himalayas.
You don't have to look far to find reports that overcrowding is a growing issue, both on Mount Everest and other classic trails in Nepal. However, the Manaslu and Tsum Valley remain off the beaten path and are among the least crowded treks in the western region of Gorkha Nepal. The trek also offers a lot more side-trips than any other base camp, although the majority of visitors would only explore the Manaslu circuit. However, with a pre-planned NEST Adventure, the team in Kathmandu has made it possible to explore the Himalayan landscapes and Buddhist culture of Manaslu with an additional side trip to Tsum Valley.

Secrets of Manaslu trekking in Nepal
Trekking in Nepal, I would say, is a kind of addiction in a good way. Once you do trekking in Nepal, you will definitely be trekking again and Manaslu is the best option for those who wants to see the real Nepal. Or lets say primitive life style in modern world with amazing mountain scenery. Manaslu trekking area is highly influenced by Tibetan cultural heritage which makes Manaslu trek unique.
I took public bus to Arughat from Kathmandu in the morning at 6 o'clock and reached Arughat afternoon then i found a truck so i was able to get to Sotikhola. Here my trekking started and trekked up to the Samagaun. I was hoping to go through the larke pass but it was too much snowing so i had to stop. I went to Kathmandu the same way back. Thus, this video is the first part of my Manaslu trekking adventure. Please check this link for my second part of my Manaslu trekking adventure -
The areas to the east of the Annapurna are the peaks of Manaslu group. Few visitors trek to this area, which makes a visit here all the more unique and unspoiled. The area is bordered by River Budhi Gandaki and to the west River Marshyangdi. This area is marked by two cultural highlights: Gorkha, which is the ancestral seat of the reigning Shah dynasty and the temple of Manakamana. Since the treks in the Manaslu region originate at around 1000 meters and reach as high as 5200 meters, the trekker will see a wide range of flora typical of the middle hills and alpine regions of Nepal. Plants to be seen around here are pine, rhododendron, wildlife include barking deer, pika and Himalayan marmots. Birds to be sighted in the region are pheasant, raven and chough. People of Tibetan origin inhabit several villages. Other groups found here are Gurung and Tamangs. The best time to trek here is between September and May. A few teahouses are seen in the Manaslu Conservation Area; however, teahouse trekking is not a suggested option. Government regulations require all the group trekking to the Manaslu Circuit to be fully sufficient.

NEPAL: Manaslu Circuit Trek
The main goal of this trip, was to walk the trail along the tourist trail around Manaslu. It is one of the most beautiful, and still not too walked tourist routes of Nepal.
The trail climbs the gorge of the river of the Buri Gandaki over the pass of Larkya La, at the height of 5135 meters, and then goes down along the Marsyandi river.
This region of Nepal is located on the border with Tibet, and for a long time it was closed for foreigners.
The trail around Manaslu was opened only in 1992. Rather to say, conditionally open. You can only come here accompanied by a certified guide, working with foreigners.
Tracking around Manaslu is not conventional pedestrian tourism, it's not what we are used too. It is a long foot walk with light baggage.
It is not permitted to go on the trail without a guide. You can resent and protest. But it is better to relax and enjoy the process.
Our travel begins in Pokhara, on the bank of the picturesque Bava Lake.
From here we will continue to the town of Arungat Bazar, located at the altitude of 500 meters above sea level.
The road passes across the plains, among rice fields and vegetable gardens.
It is warm and humid. Real tropics. It is already October, and butterflies are still flitting around. There is a lot of water everywhere.
The rivers and rivulets flow into Buri Gandaki, from left and right.
The small ones can easily be crossed by water. Across the larger ones— by narrow suspension bridges.
On the way, we pass through small villages. Majestic entrance gate.
And two-three houses made of raw stones. There is not a lot of fertile soil here. Farmers have to work, tirelessly, in order to provide food to their families.
The progress hasn't reached here. The technology of farming, practically hasn't changed for the last several hundred years. It is all because there is no actual roads. And how much can be carried on a donkey's back.
The village of Namrung, located at the altitude of 2540 meters, is almost a city by local standards. They even have side streets, not just the central. There are both stupas, and monasteries here.
In the rocky Nepalese village, the tallest and the most majestic construction — the entrance gate. They are usually made out of stones, similar to the rest of the houses. However, they have several floors clustered and decorated with multi-colored flags, with Buddist mantras on them.
The village of Sama Ro or Samagaon, lies at the foot of Manaslu Mountain.
We are already at the height of 3390 meters above sea level. It is known that at the altitudes over three kilometers, the symptoms of mountain sickness may occur.
It is fairly cold in the mornings. The water in the puddle freezes. Hoarfrost covers the ground. As soon as the sun rises over the surrounding mountains, it quickly gets warmer.
We pass several kilometers to the village of Samdo. We climbed 300 meters higher. The sun is not high yet. But we won't continue farther today. Acclimatization continues. We won't hurry.
The village of Samdo — the last settlement on the way to the pass of Larkya La. They live poorly here. The houses are still black, smocked by the fire. The smoke doesn't exit through a pipe, but through a hole in a roof.
Daramsala — a typical mountaineering camp. Usually hikers spend the night here. To conquer the top in the early morning. We are only going to have breakfast, and a short halt here.
We not only have to pass over the Larkya La, but also need to reach the next village, on the other side of the mountain, before it gets dark.
No climbing equipment at all. And the footwear is obviously not intended for walking on ice and snow. We have to step very carefully.
The sun has melted the snow. Then it got colder. The thawed snow has frozen and has turned into ice. It would be possible to skate. But the trail is very narrow and goes along the very edge of the cliff. Good thing we are lucky with the weather. In the cloud you can't see further than 10-15 meters. The cliff doesn't seem so terrible any more. Though it actually stretches down for 600 meters.
In the village of Darapani, the Marsjyandi River merges with the Dudkh Khola River. And the trail around Manaslu, crosses with another more popular and busier trail, around Annapurna.
The campaign on the Manaslu Trail is compleated. But before returning home, it is worth examining Khatmandu and several nearby ancient towns. Without it, the idea of Nepal would be unilateral. Nepal is not only mountains and small villages. It is a country with an ancient culture and a centuries-old history.

Secrets of Manaslu trekking in Nepal - 2 (Circuit / Larke pass)
Manaslu trek in Nepal is definitely the one we should not miss. Of course, all those trekking in Nepal are good but this one tastes different for sure. I was really satisfied with the scenery, culture and struggle at high altitude too haha.
I trekked with five of my friends/clients from Canada and Australia to do Manaslu round trekking via Larke pass. I previously made video till samagaun so i have started this video directly from there. It was an amazing experience trekking with best people to Manaslu circuit trekking in Nepal. Trek in Nepal itself is an amazing thing and i was lucky to have best companion. Going through the Larke pass 5160 m is not a joke but beauty of it is incomparable which makes you to forget the pain and suffering.
Manaslu Circuit Trek : The majestic mountainsjust east of the Annapurnas are the mighty peaks of Manaslu Range . They take their name from the awe inspiring Mt Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain in the world, which dominates this landscape. Very few visitors trek in this recently opened trekking route but lately it is catching the eye of more and more trekkers. Mainly because the ever popular Annapurna Trek is becoming affected by road building that is causing trekkers to look for nearby alternatives. This makes a visit to the unique and unspoiled Manaslu region a must for all adventurous souls seeking unsurpassed natural beauty and a fascinating look at the remote local cultures of the region. The trek passes through the Manaslu Conservation Area at the village of Jagat and requires a special permit to enter.
The raging Budhi Gandaki Riveris ever present along the Manaslu Circuit Trek. Sometimes you are trekking close along the riverbank and sometimes you are gazing on its power from high on mountain side. The local Nepalese believe that the enticing sound of the swirling rapids is the river singing to those that come under its spell. The constant churning and thrusting of its mighty flow as it crashes into huge boulders creates mini waterfalls and rock pools that are beautiful to witness. The river is fed by countless waterfalls cascading down from high above. So high that sometimes you can’t fit the entre waterfall in your camera frame. But the higher you go the character of the river morphs into a bubbling mountain brook with moss covered branches straddling its course.
This area is marked by two cultural highlights: Gorkha, which is the ancestral seat of the reigning Shah dynasty and the temple of Manakamana Temple. This temple is dedicated to the Hindu Goddess Bhagwati and devotees believe if you make the pilgrimage to this holy site all your wishes will come true.
Since the treks in the Manaslu region originate at around 1000 meters and reach as high as 5200 meters, the trekker will see a wide range of flora and fauna typical of the middle hills and alpine regions of Nepal. The trees andplants to be seen along the trek are thousands of tall Himalayan pinetrees with a strangely hallucinating hue of green and the evercolorfulrhododendron when in bloom present an intoxicating colorfulbackdrop. Thewildlife are harder to see but if you are lucky include barking deer, pika and Himalayan marmots. The many kinds of birds are easier to spot are pheasant, raven and chough.
People of Tibetan origin tend to scratch out an existence in the villages in the upper part of the trek. Other people found along the trail are Gurung and Tamangs. All are very welcoming and seem to enjoy the influx of people from other parts of the world walking through their villages during the trekking season.
The best time to trek here is between September and May where the clear skies offer the best views. The months of June to August are the monsoon season and tend to be difficult because of the heavy rain and swollen rivers that often wash away many locally made footbridges. October and November are the peak times because of the clear skies and not so cold temperatures at high altitudes.
There are many teahouses along this trek that can be reached after a day’s walking from one to the other. Or you can choose the camping option depending on your fancy.Government regulations require all groups to the Manaslu Circuit to be fully self sufficient and accompanied by professional guides and porters.
The start of the trek is a jeep or bus ride from Kathmandu to the town of Arughat and from there to Soti Khola which is the end of the road and trekking begins in earnest.

Manaslu Circuit Trek, Nepal, Himalayas
Manaslu Circuit Trek is a remote trek on the Great Himalaya Trail. In 15 days, it takes us around Manaslu, the world's eighth highest mountain at 8,163 m.
The trail provides all Nepal has to offer: from subtropical jungle at lower elevations, though the Himalayan foothills to the high, cold and challenging crossing of the Larkya Pass at an altitude of 5,140 m.
We are a group of 4 hikers who met in Kathmandu (where we enjoyed fun pre-trekking days: We set out in late October with a great crew from Shusil, Sudip and Shishir!
We get to the trail via an 8 hour Jeep ride to Soti Khola at the foot of the Himalayas (right by the Budhi Gandaki river). After the pass we make it to Bahundanda, west of Manaslu where we take a buss back to Kathmandu.

I am honored to share regards the Tsum Valley, Nepal with you all. The place where I was born and spend my childhood life. I am a person who loves to travel and explore an adventure; I crossed the Mt. Thapala (5093M) at age of five with my dad pasang which is situated at the border of Nyam Tibet and Chakay, Nepal. I came down to Kathmandu with my second father Tsering Phuntsok at the age of 12 to study in Gorkha district. It took 7 to 8 days to reached Kathmandu where there is new people, culture, religion and extremely difference can be seen.
I used to be sort of Nomadic Boy who takes care of yaks and Zho. Besides, always loves to play with rocks and stones in landscapes mountain area.On the other hand my mom taught us great things about Buddha Dharma as being compassionate and generous. Moreover, all my brothers, sisters, family and friends taught me to be kind, generous and understanding. As saying goes “ Sharing is Caring”.
So far I have travel to few nations. For instance: Canada,USA, Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria, China, Tibet, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and India. However, I have never forgotten my birth place Tsum, Gorkha, Nepal. So in the between I kept visiting and serving back to my Tsum Valley as in my capacity. Consequently, I love to take photos all over the world. For the information I have never got chance to take training regards photographs however I take photos that touches my heart and has deep story behind.
