Lao Kratob Mai Thai Dancing (4 of 4) at Fair Oaks Mall, VA
Day-2: Lao Kratob Mai
Celebrating Chinese New Year 2104 (continued)
Fair Oaks Mall, Virginia
Performed by The Talented Thai Youth Group
Lao is an old word referred to Lanna and E-Saan, and Kratob Mai, in this case, means tapping and clashing the bamboos!
This, Lao Kratob Mai, is one of those Thai dancers who play farmers and their co-workers in the old days. The dance was created to entertain among themselves and one another after they had been working so hard and a long day in the rice field. This kind of dance can be seen occasionally in Northeast or E-Saan, a certain part of Thailand. It was probably not at the rice field any more but they performed mostly on stages where Thai cultural performances are shown. As you will see from this performance, Lao Kratob Mai, that everyone gathers around and sing along together, tapping and clashing the bamboos for rhythmic and tune with joy and lots of fun!
Note: Thanks to Ajahn Prasoapsri Panachumnong (Kru Add) who's teaching the young kids!
